[reply]But, yeah, I think Maiden with Cooper is really as good as it gets.
Maybe if Cooper were headlining…

I’d take it either way.
WOW!!! Disc 2 is where it’s at for this new album! It’s stock is rising fast now that I’m spinning the second half. There is some amazingly epic stuff here.
Hearing others’ comments I went back and gave “A Matter of Life and Death” a revisit . . . HOLY CRAP!!! I really don’t know why this one didn’t register stronger on my radar. I suspect it’s because some of the stronger tracks have a very similar vibe to some of the stuff going on in “Brave New World” so I may have been remembering things poorly. But this album is an absolute BEAST!!! It’s moved past “Dance of Death” on my rankings and is gunning for “Brave New World”. Re-shuffling my “new-Maiden” rankings . . . .
Brave New World
A Matter of Life and Death
Book of Souls
Dance of Death
Final Frontier
Yeah, dude I couldn’t figure out why you didn’t rate Matter higher…I think that is one of the strongest Maiden albums period…my friend in NY had the same experience as you…he initially got it and didn’t think much of it…I implored him to revisit it and he did and now he listens to it regularly and constantly sings it’s praises…that fucker is a grower…
The guy with the goofy shades and the Duncan yo-yo shirt might be the coolest dude in the history of Prongs Pix.
That dude just got featured in a full spread in Metal Hammer magazine . . . for his Yo-Yo’ing. No lie, he just informed us yesterday. I’ll post a pic . . .
Is the new Maiden album really that good? I’m more of a “best of” guy with this band, but they are one of those rarities whose 21st century work still has the capacity to kick ass (I love Wicker Man from the early '00s).

My tastes are kind of all over the place with Maiden, but, just being straight up with respect to your tastes, I wouldn’t go out of my way for this one if you’re a “greatest hits” guy. Of the last 15 years I would suggest Brave New World first, and probably Matter of Life and Death next.
Book of Souls has a few epic and complex pieces that are sure to satisfy those of us who jerk off to some of the nerdier and deeper aspects of Maiden, but I don’t yet find anything on this one that is really prone to landing on a “best of” compilation.
I would also recommend, if you’ve never tried it, to find (it came out about 13 years ago, I think) BEST OF BRUCE DICKINSON (it’s a comp of all his solo stuff up to the time that came out).
Some of Bruce’s solo stuff is honestly better than a lot of Maiden even.
Looks like almost the entire Maiden catalog is streaming free for Amazon Prime members.
Partway through the new one now. I don’t know if I need to own it, but it’s certainly fun to listen to.

Chemical Wedding is not only better than most Maiden albums but better than most metal albums in general…and Accident of Birth to a lesser degree…both with Adrian Smith and
Fucking Roy Z!!!
I love Skunkworks also but I am in the minority there…

I’m not sure if I still own it or not, but, yeah, I thought that one was pretty horrible (and I’m usually a champion of “underdog/ hated” albums, haha).
Aside from that one, I think the Dickinson catalog is absolutely amazing.
Hahaha yeah that one catches a lot of heat…it’s like Bruce fronting Rush…and if you are not a fan of Rush(which I know you and many others here are not)then it would probably grate…I think it has some great songwriting…I like hearing his melodic side…
Nevertheless,it can’t hold a candle to Chem Wedding…that in my opinion is his heaviest and best work by a mile…

How I’d love to see that list! We already covered The Ultimate Sin…

Well, let’s see . . . just a few off the top of my head . . .
Black Sabbath - “Born Again” and “Forbidden”
Pantera - Anything up to and including “Power Metal” (I despise all the rest)
Ministry - “RELAPSE”
Motorhead - “Another Perfect Day”
Ozzy Osbourne - “Ultimate Sin”
Billy Idol - “Cyberpunk”
Judas Priest - “Rocka Rolla”
Bob Dylan - “Saved”
Good call on Cyberpunk (even though I don’t remember it very well) and Rocka Rolla! I actually have an old vinyl of the latter. The only other track I can seem to remember on Cyberpunk was one where he’s going off about being a madman. The way he said, “I’M A MADMAN!” always gave my friend who had the album and I a good laugh because of how much it reminded us of the DVDA song “Now You’re A Man”

Thanks. For proving right everything I had only previously assumed about you but never had the heart to embarrass you with and boldly ask.

Thank you for not embarassing me.
I do get rather bashful when someone points out how lame and pedestrian my taste in music is. Your sensitivity is much appreciated.

Yeah, you should be listening to some quality Azerbaijani gypsy dance music or industrial funk brass band shit made by some Serbian lepers, you’re not cool if you just listen to “ordinary” music.
Swans-The Burning World
Oh yeah…love this one…Skunkworks
