Haha, fuckin’ Sign of the Cross is one of those tracks, definitely. Great original, but Bruce’s live version has about 200 times the testicular fortitude of the original.

Prefer Di’anno to Dickinson. By a mile.
the first two records ARE underrated, and very good… but… no.
you are just wrong.
in fact, i think you may need some sort of mental health assistance.
Dickinson is just… better. this isnt even an opinion, it is a solid fact. like how bridges work, or how The Lost Boys is a perfect movie.

Actually Lost Boys is a dated cheese feast of a silly ass film. Near Dark is where it’s at…released the same day as Lost Boys and still miles ahead. The bar scene with Cramps playing and Bill Paxton kickin ass can’t be beat!!! Then you compare that to Sutherland and his other sissy emo mullet pals trying to be scary and it’s truly hilarious.
In short Lost Boys is a piece of crap and Near Dark rules.
I never knew “Near Dark” came out the same time as “Lost Boys”. I love BOTH of those films. “Lost Boys” is easier for me to use as a pop culture reference, though, as most have no idea what “Near Dark” is.
Bonus points for that film for having the creepy kid from “River’s Edge”.

i am very aware of Near Dark and how they came out at the same time. its a shame that so many people see that as a point of competition, instead of a mark of a really cool season at the theater. haha.
actually, my fiance moved in next door to me, and came over on her first night just to meet her neighbors, and i saw she had a Near Dark pin on, and we started talking about what an amazing movie it is. then we found out we both had the exact same DVD of the film. it has become sorta… like, ‘our’ movie. i got her an original theatrical run poster from it, and she has gotten me a few custom shirts/patches. its funny how of all things THAT movie is the one that made me realize that my brand new neighbor was the one for me. haha.
and yes, the kid from River’s Edge is amazing in BOTH those movies. haha.
but The Lost Boys is a killer film, and a perfect time capsule to a different time. everything from the Corys to Kiefer being a total badass (and looking a bit like a vampyric Gunney), to the whole visual theme of the boardwalk, to the sunken hotel with the Jim Morrison poster, to the countless one liners, and the very final line itself… priceless.
and don’t forget Sax Man!!!
We have had this Near Dark/kid from Rivers Edge discussion before…and it’s a good discussion to have…
Looks like a fun show,G…you look as bad ass as usual…
As for the first 2 Maiden albums,I wouldn’t say they are underrated at all…I hear people pimping those albums constantly…especially over the last 10 years…I love those first 2 but as for Paul being a better vocalis than the Air Raid siren:patently absurd…Bruce in a landslide…no contest…
Both Near Dark and The Lost Boys are good films. If my hair wasn’t receding, I’d have the Kiefer mullet right now! And the aforementioned scene in ND with Bill Paxton kicking ass to The Cramps’ version of “Fever” is very iconic and, as Sevren would say, “finger lickin’ good!”
The guy with the goofy shades and the Duncan yo-yo shirt might be the coolest dude in the history of Prongs Pix.

That dude (Alex Lee) was like the biggest celebrity of the parking lot. Turns out he’s the guitar player for an actual signed metal band called HOLY GRAIL that is fairly successful on the metal underground scene. They’ve opened for other concerts I’ve been to but I never cared to catch them as I didn’t know who they were.
There was a small but continual number of metalheads that would recognize him and stop to pay homage and such.
But forget that . . . . he was also a mad crazy yo-yo pro. Like Yo-Yo Man action. He would start bustin’ out crazy ass tricks and throwin’ these yo-yo’s to and fro . . . . and the chicks were all over this dude.
He was a really cool cat, though. Super friendly and mellow.
I’d give you a part of all this “New Wave”. If only Iron Maiden had the guts to compete that is. As critics though, we know otherwise.
They should go back to their pubs and English country gardening. They have no understanding of the alternative metal scene.
I love the first Iron Maiden album.
Surprisingly, Def Leppard’s first album was really good, when they used to be part of the NWOBHM.
People who aren’t into Iron Maiden or metal tend to think they’ll get some sort of street cred for flying the Di’anno flag. Nope. Sorry. It doesn’t work that way.
Not looking for street cred but I dig the punk D.I.Y feel of the first two - especially Killers. Not a huge fan of Dickinson Maiden (it’s all too pompous and theatrical for me) however I do own both Piece Of Mind and Somewhere In Time on cd (the remastered versions) and both are fairly exemplary.
“Book of Souls” came out on Friday.
I’ve only casually gone through the first disc (it’s a double album), but it’s good.
Of the post-Blayze Maiden era “Dance of Death” and “Brave New World” are my favorites. “Final Frontier” and “A Matter of Life and Death” are a bit weak. So far I’m thinking this is right smack in the middle of everything (better than “AMOLAD” and “Frontier” but not as good as “Brave New World” and “Dance of Death”).
Anyway . . . MAIDEN’S BACK!!!
Listened to the whole thing on Fri night…very strong…some excellent unexpected riffs…I was a big fan of Matter of Life and Death…my fave since Brave New World…this one sits next to it me thinks…
The tour is going to be massive…

I’m really stoked too.
There’s been such an energy and enthusiasm for Maiden that has just continued to grow for the last 15 years (especially in the last 5).
There is an excitement in the air and I’ve never seen/heard so much buzz around anything they’d done before. They always hit super hard on their live tours but something tells me this one is gonna be a definite DON’T MISS.
Shit I just remembered I never sent you that pic with Nico…I will pm that over when I get home…

YES!!!
Saw them a couple of years ago with Alice Cooper - not sure how you top that…
“Book Of Souls” is great, but my latter-era favorite remains “A Matter Of Life And Death.” Brighter than a thousand suns!

WOW!!! That is a beast of a bill!
As far as pairing/support acts, here are a few of my monsters . . .
2013 - MAIDEN, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Overkill
2002 - MAIDEN, Dio, Motorhead
But, yeah, I think Maiden with Cooper is really as good as it gets.
