I just bought a damn turntable. Fuck it.
Stopped by Amoeba today. The had copies of this DVD in stock. I still have not received mine.
And I was a Kickstarter backer when they originally funded this film. 4 years ago?
How much were they selling it for?
Still no shipping notification…sigh
I didn’t notice. But Ameoba DVDs and BDs tend to be on the expensive side. I’d say it’s probably $25. I might be by there this weekend, I’ll check for you.
Regarding “Cause we’re in love again” - It seems like everything recorded after 1985 involved Fairlight programming and/or sampling so this track would be a unique exception to that formula. The vocal style does sound a lot more like “Overkill” and “I’m Falling.”
The keyboard geek in me can hear some Fairlight in that track. During the part with the female vocals I can hear the ARR1 patch (also used in Tears For Fears-shout) buried in the background. The bass also sounds sequenced, maybe it’s just me.
They recorded everything in bulk post Arista, either at Chicago Trax or Southern. I might be wrong, but I think it’s a leftover from 1984 that was recorded at Southern. Hizbollah was another one that dates back to 1984, but didn’t see a studio recording until a little later.
Something else I noticed too…the All Day/Halloween 12" came out in 1985, but they were performing those tracks during the 1984 tour. When they played Halloween live, the middle section has the keyboard solo just like the demo, and The Nature of Love live is very different from the studio version. It didn’t really occur to me until I heard the live Halloween on the 7".
I also noticed another cool tidbit- The drum and bass section from “Tonight We Murder” is almost identical to “Do You Even Like It”. Very cool that everything played from the 1984 tour saw at least some sort of studio treatment.
I was really hoping the Angel remix would surface for this release. Maybe it will be included when they get around to releasing all of the Sire era stuff.
I really want to hear that Angel remix. Probably top on my list of Ministry want.
Is the remix of “The Angel” something different than the shorter edit on “Twitched”? Was it serviced to radio as a possible single release in 1986?
Supposedly it’s different from the Twitched version. There was going to be a video, single and everything for it. No promo releases exist, but the short remix on Twitched is sourced from a test pressing, so it was at least planned as a single, but that’s all I really know about it.
I would love to hear it, and it’s mind boggling that there isn’t even a live recording out there.
I remember several years ago someone who was at the liveshow in 1987 wrote in some topic here that the remix sounds like an early version of Deity.
I hope an entire show from 1986 and/or 1987 surfaces. I’ve seen the one clip of “The Isle Of Man” live on YouTube…was hoping they’d post the rest of the show.
Just compared the Split version of Vogue to the version on Money and have to say I much prefer the Split version. Makes me curious as to what the rest of Sasha’s side would have sounded like. Hope they release it all someday.
Shriekback are the best. Anyone here who doesn’t have their stuff needs to invest ASAP…a great place to start is the Priests & Kanibals comp…
Agree, Oil and Gold is my absolute favorite, although I haven’t heard all of the albums yet.
Just discovered a cool track called “Evaporation” on the Manhunter soundtrack, which is what led me to Oil and Gold in the first place. “This Big Hush” is just a killer track.
My Spine Is The Bassline was the first track I heard courtesy of a great Andy Weatherall comp. That track is insanely dope.
My other favourites…
All Lined Up
Mercy Dash
Nemesis
Hammerheads
The Reptiles & I
As mentioned…invest in that Priests & Kanibals comp…you won’t regret it.
Another jaw dropping group miles ahead of the game was Grauzone.
Speaking of Shriekback. There’s a remix of Hand on My Heart called Cloud Of Nails (Pump Up A Storm) made by Sherwood and the beginning of it kinda sounds like Over The Shoulder.
Yeah, Sherwood should probably have gotten writing credit on Twitch. It’s no wonder Al kind of glosses over it in his catalog.
Just got a shipping notification for the Kickstart vinyl. I heard the cover is at least different, hopefully it has some unique tracks too.
Funny, I stopped by Rough Trade in London and found a few copies of the RSD vinyls—complete with tickets to a show being held 3,000 miles away—in stock. Strange considering that one or two of the advertised record stores in NYC never got em.
