Good fucking god!!! Even though the setlist for this tour is uninspiring (to say the least), and even though I hate BB King’s (the worst venue sonically, and otherwise, in NYC), I figured I might check out the show when they roll through town in June anyway.
Until I saw the ticket prices.
$45 advance, $50 day-of!!!
I’d have to stop and think twice, three, four times to pay that much even for the good version of Ministry that toured in 2003. But for this band? You’ve got to be kidding me! No wonder tickets are still available even though they’ve been on sale for months, and BB King’s is a small room.

Mine were only $30 apiece for myself and a friend at Bogarts in Cincy on the 28th of June. It’s an okay venue, I just hope they still allow smoking there. My Bauhaus/NIN tix for the following Wednesday were upwards of $50, however, and it’s at an outdoor amphitheater - meaning I just paid through the teeth to sweat balls all day. But whatever, it’s BAUHAUS. They’d been broken up for a good seven years before I even discovered their music…I never thought I’d get to see them!

Wow.
Yeah good point. I mean at this point I’m also questioning whether I’ll be willing to0 pay ridiculous prices for the Al Jourgensen Show.
If this was Ministry, it might be worth it. But it’s not and we all know it.
Hmmm, living in australia those prices seem ok… 67AUD for nin… I saw Marilyn Manson about 3 years ago, normal floor tix were $79 AUD (60USD) but me and a friend payed about 120 ie. 90USD, from ebay cuz they sold out so quick. I hate scalpers. i dont know why people just dont do more shows here… big names sell out SOOOOO quick. I’m not looking forward to when tool tour (hoping they do), that show will be gone so quick. The floor tix anyway. Not that I am into the ol’ mosh pit as much anymore, but not into the seating arrangements, people get shitty when you stand up or move at all,
The Tempe show was $30, but I got comp’d 2 tickets from a friend, so I didn’t even feel that burn. Concerts are becoming luxury items, I swear. Concerts and gas are rising faster than the cost of living, that’s for sure. I remember paying a hefty $10 to see Ministry in 1988. Ok, so that was 18 years ago, but most concerts around the late 80’s/early 90’s cost between $15-25…at least in Phoenix.
Last year I spent about $50 on a single Depeche Mode ticket, which is ironic in the sense that the show I saw in '88 eclipsed this tour, yet cost less than 2/3 the price. Geez, I’m starting to sound like my parents. If that isn’t a sign that I’m getting old…
Also, “Waaah!! My favorite ex-members aren’t playing! Therefore, it’s not really Ministry and/or Revolting Cocks! Waah!”
You’re missing the point. With Barker, Ministry played interesting music and included stuff from Filth Pig and Dark Side and Animositisomina in their sets. Without Barker, it’s the dull speed-metal-with-samples show. Hell, if Ministry stayed interesting and played good material without Barker, I could care less about his not being there. But that wouldn’t happen, as Barker was apparently the real creative force in the band, or at least helped bring out Al’s creativity.

I think that’s what he was saying too but in a more humorous way i.e. echoing the whining that we have all been doing without being too serious about it.

It is very possible that this stuff may be a lot cheaper depending on the venues. their gear is always cheaper when they play the shithole harpo’s in detroit. the venues tack on a percentage to everything the band sells there. And you’ll notice that amphitheaters and then places like HOB tend to be the worst. $60 may be terrible for a sweatshirt, but it beats the $50 long sleve Tool T’s they were selling in detroit last week. That was at a very nice theater as well. This is why i love small dive bar club shows. you can get shirts for like $10.
I wasn’t complaining, I bought the tix. It ain’t the same Revco, but it will be fun to hear that shit live. HOB is a fortune for anything. They scam so much on the tshirts it turns them into 40 dollar items.
Look at it this way - you’re getting 2/3 of the original line-up. [:P]

Heh. If some of these people had been around in the late '80s they’d have been complaining - “Who’s this Chris Connelly loser? It isn’t Revolting Cocks without Richard 23.”
Yeah, I said the same thing before. I have to admit that the middle line-up is my fave, though - Connelly, Barker, etc.
And thinking about it, so many people have come and gone from Ministry, you can’t really peg a definitive line-up…oh, well.
I just saw that tickets for the Trocadero in Philly are $33.50, which is more like it. BB King’s is part of that House of Blues racket, which is why tickets there run at the very least $10 higher than anywhere else.
When I saw Ministry at BB King’s last tour I thought the show really sucked. Horrible muddy sound, angry bruiser security, tiny stage that crowds the band. I had a ticket for the Philly show a couple nights later and considered not going, but I went after all and they ended up kicking serious ass. Great sound, lots of energy, fun crowd. Same thing happened when I saw Motorhead at BB King’s – the show sucked. I saw them in Philly a couple nights later and it was among the top three gigs I’ve seen them play (out of nearly 20). And, of course, both shows at BB King’s ran about $15 more than the shows in Philly. BB King’s – pay more for less!
Yeah I agree about BB Kings…saw them there last year as well and you’re right the sound was pretty crappy overall.
I thought it was a decent show though…the crowd was really into it. It’s funny how you could tell the rivetheads from the metalheads…the rivets sort of sat towards the back, arms folded, sneering as they watched the metalheads moshing their brains out like a bunch of monkeys.
Then again I was doing a little bit of both–can’t help but feel the energy to stomp around a bit for Ministry.
