And the debate on the forum is healthy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s highly prevalent, but it tends not to resort to childish and pathetic namecalling as I’ve seen on some forums.
and then cut to…
Piss Army. Oh, how I could not help but bring up that acoloyte ridden piece of festering shit…
Yeah I was banned there for saying the bands who opened on the last tour (specifically Sightings) were doing something more interesting than Puppy was. They will not tolerate criticism of SP.
Hah! I was banned for life from Litany for joining in on a discussion about girlfriends/breakups and I made the honest confession that I had been depressed about my girlfriend leaving me and to compensate for that I occasionally “jerked off” to internet porn.
The moderator was horrified and sent me an email letting me know that that kind of behaviour would not be tolerated and then promptly kicked me out.
to porkspam: true as this is… I would’ve burnt down an orphanage for a Bungle reunion.
to grmpysmrf: that WAS not a childish insult! It was a very adult insult. Yes. I used a big word. Acolyte. That makes me special. Very… ah shit. Fuck it, you win [mad]
I’m just finally glad I’ve found a forum where I can rip on bands that deserve, tell everyone about my mental state and sexual habits, and actually talk about decent music.
Or we could, theoretically, just spam the piss army with one Flowering Blight thread after another… I mean, just innocuous ‘check out paul’s new project!’ threads… one… after… the… other… but that would be a bad idea, given Barker’s proclivity for avoiding such childish contests. Surprised we haven’t been bombarded by ‘pissants’…
…oh wait, Mrs Jay did attempt to post here a couple of times, i tend to recall? Special. Speci-AL. [crazy]
what wouldn’t be toleraed the jerking off to porn or the depression?
Probably the jerking off.
I’d say they can handle the depression bit as most of them seem to be hard core Cure fans.
And yeah, I’d agree with what somebody else here mentioned - they do NOT take criticism of anything Skinny Puppy too kindly. And they will ignore you if you are a ‘noob’. And I hate that shit. Probably the biggest bunch of forum elitists imaginable.
I have never witnessed any poster here being flagrantly ignored. I like that I can say things like: I think The Last Sucker is one of the most god awful musical abortions ever put out by a band I like… and not get my ass flamed/banned for saying so.
I would argue that if you said “I think the Last Sucker is one of the greatest albums of all time and is an example of a band going out at their absolute creative peak” or anything even close to that you would get your ass flamed faster than the Human Torch could flame on. Here we flame you if you like new Ministry, there they flame you if you hate new Puppy. Personally I like it better here.
Apples & oranges my friends. I really like some of the people over at Litany, but I have to say the uber-fandom thing is a big turn off in any band. For one thing I don’t smoke pot, and never have so apparently my appreciation of the music is somehow lesser. Okay…
If I had a penny for every time someone said that cEvin and Ogre could put out an album of them just farting for an hour, and it would be more brilliant than any other band’s records I’d have around $3.85. I mean come on, fan is short for fanatic, and that is not a good thing. Especially for any artist who is trying to expand their work in new directions.

I suppose there’s no point in me going over to that forum. All I could bring is total indifference.
then a friend of mine showed me California and D.V when I was in my final year of high school and…
my head exploded.
Yeah…Mr Bungle will do that to you. I remember I had just finished my final year in high school when that first album came out and all these people at end of year parties I was going to were wearing Mr Bungle t shirts - so I decided to check them out…and I loved it.
Then, four years later, when Disco Volante came out, everyone was, like, “OMG what is this??? Where’s the funk??? This is just weird, stupid noise!! This is horrible!!”
Which made me love it even more!!! [:)]
It’s weird having Bar Mckinnon live in the same city as me. His new band is okayish. Great recorded, but live, pretty boring. Just ‘let’s do a million time signatures’. Not much energy. But it does sound great at the very least. I suppose that’s what matters.
Bar McKinnon lives and works in Moorabbin now (where I grew up). A friend of mine invited him to a bbq but I never got to meet him.
Haven’t heard Umlaut, but I did buy the Secret Chiefs 3 new lp just the other day. Damn fine it is too!
I’m more of a sucker for California. Some of the songs on that are genius. Pink Cigarette. Retrovertigo. Vanity Fair. Shit yeah.
Umlaut recorded is great. Live… boring. Sounds tight, note perfect, but just no real energy. Having met McKinnon more than once, I have nothing but nice things to say about him as a person. I mean, how many people can you randomly go up to and talk about quantum physics with? [laugh]
Then I saw them support the Melvins at the Ding Dong Lounge. Patton came up and did a song with them. This made them awesome. Basically, McKinnon makes good music, he just needs a good frontman to ‘sell’ it, for want of a better term. Patton, in my opinion, is less of a musician than anyone else in Bungle, but seems to be able to pick the right musicians to work with and get ideas out of them they probably didn’t even know they’d had.

I take it yer an ex-pat Peligro?
if you get a chance listen to the crank 2: high voltage soundtrack. it’s all music done by patton. and it’s not fantomas baby noises, ambience, and screams. Quiet a well put together score. So Patton actually has the skill of a well educated musician. Now had he this skill at the beginning of bungle during the bowel of chili days is another thing.
I always kinda got annoyed at the people with the bungle shirts (or the people that do this in general) that were huge FNM fans and since mike had on the shirt in the epic video, they had to go and run out and get the shirt. You’d see similar stuff at like pantera shows were people saw phil in an eyehategod shirt, so they’d run out and buy the shirt but never even checked out the band. But I guess to each their own.
A belated welcome to who’s turning out to be my favorite n00b at Prongs. I’ve been on hiatus and without the Net in Maine for the past week, so coming back to a kickass dude/chick and like 400 new posts makes me very happy.
I then decided to check out his soundtrack for ‘A Perfect Place’.
I liked that even more. When I hear Patton does soundtrack, I was expecting more a bunch of contemporary songs trying to be passed off as ‘a film score’. I mean. We all know about Uncle Al’s brilliant and innovate film score for the masterpiece that was Wicked Lake.
I wasn’t necessarily saying before Patton wasn’t much as a musician: I meant to say that there were things that Spruance could do on guitar, McKinnon could do on sax, etc, that Patton couldn’t, and that Patton seemed to have a knack for surrounding himself with capable people able to flesh out the ideas in his head.
Musically, I’d say he’s an innovator more than a virtuoso. Those film scores are probably evidence of someone who can hear the ideas in his head and write them out on paper, as opposed to being able to play them.
But that’s not a criticism by any means. More a compliment. And besides, while studying classical I was fascinated to find out most orchestral conductors or score writers have to play all the instruments in the orchestra only to a somewhat rudimentary level.
Anyway, I’m 20, live in Melbourne, Australia and used to like Ministry.
I make music. It sucks. www.myspace.com/fiveminutestomidnite . Add me and we can share music and become best friends, start a band, then end up hating each other.
THANKS for all the quality music I’ve been exposed to on this forum. Hail. [:P]
I’m from Melbourne too (gee what is it about Melbourne and this kind of music) …
Was kinda interested as to what bands you are really into. I know you like Mr Bungle (and everything associated with it) and you have mentioned Tool a few times…but what else?
