Again, “yr” includes an o and a u, somewhere in the middle there, I believe. [;)]
Also, it’s “grammar,” as opposed to “grammer,” and unless you’re asking if he understands in French, which, I’ll confess, I don’t speak, it’s “comprende” - no z.
And where the hell have you been, Peligro? There’ve been plenty of complaints about the new album, but none of them very funny…
Linda summertime a hilarious song? A great closer for DSOTS? No fucking way IMHO! That is the worse closing song out of all the minstry records ever made…[mad]

Lol,
My grammar may not be up to scratch because I’m at work, and quickly posting in between what I’m doing. umm… and who cares anyway? It’s a forum, not an english class.
If asking what the “deal” with merzbow is bad… well why would it be bad? Is “What style of music is Merzbow” better? I haven’t had much time to explore new music, I haven’t even heard the last two ministry albums or new revco. Had just heard Merzbow mentioned quite a lot on the forum and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
I think Merzbow is name-checked more often than it’s actually listened too. Don’t get me wrong, the guy’s an important figure and serves a good purpose. It’s just that when people say “Merzbow” it could just as easily connote a style rather than the actual guy.
Basically it’s random noise. Sometimes there is a recurring theme or a repeated pattern, sometimes not. Sometimes there’s a “beat”, but that could easily be two pieces of white noise repeating against each other. It’s pretty much the fringe of what is music and what isn’t.
I just tune my radio to an empty station, crank it all the way up, and tell people it’s the new Merzbow cd.
If they say they don’t like it I tell them they’re not intelligent enough to appreciate it, and they should go back to American Idol for their music.
Hmmm if I had to classify Merzbow I’d say he’s Harsh Noise but don’t be fooled there is a lot to enjoy for the advanced listener. Subtle patterns of re-occur in songs and there is always a unique and different feel to each album that distinguishes it from the last one.
The Merzbow CDs I have are:
Pulse Demon
Amlux
Tauromachine
Venereology
Merzbuta
Merzbuddah
Multiplication (w/John Wiese)
Out of these I most enjoy Merzbuta, Merzbuddah and Multiplication. However I would easily recommend any of them because they are all solid efforts.
Seriously Merzbow is the kind of music that you must leave on in the background and concentrate on something else. If you are an uptight listener and focus too much on the song, waiting for some kind of hook to come along, it’s not going to happen and you may find yourself frustrated.
Instead let it slowly work its way into your brain and its like this hypnotic vortex of insanity filled with all kinds of fucked up debris*
If you want to download a song to form an opinion I’d suggest:
“Yellow Hyper Balls” from Pulse Demon
“Mantra 2” from Merzbuddah (note: Merzbuddah MUST be played with a really powerful bass setup to get the fuck effect)
One of the first few tracks from Merzbuta (none are titled)
Seriously you have to have an open mind for this kind of shit but if you are willing to step outside this rock 'n roll bullshit you will find a fascinating artist and a new language for music.
For beat-oriented, accessible Noise in a dark vein I might check out the band Wolf Eyes. The CD Burned Mind is simply a must have in my book. Kind of combines the Harsh Noise formula with oldschool industrial (SPK, Throbbing Gristle) aesthetic with a touch of metal/hardcore in its delivery.
*Note: if this description sounds too artsy or pretentious for you then you will not like Merzbow

Don’t worry, yr still ok. By me.
If asking what the “deal” with merzbow is bad… well why would it be bad?
It just is. But ‘bad’ is good. Isn’t it?
Is “What style of music is Merzbow” better?
No.

You should concentrate more on passing yr exams, skinny. Music is a waste of time.

OK - I suggest you start listening to Merzbow!
How’s that sound?!?!

…
Not where I come from it isn’t.
“Happy Dust” is a favourite of mine.
If you want to listen to the song’s inspiration, check out the ‘spaghetti western’ soundtracks of Ennio Morricone. Awesome stuff.
“Dark Side…” is probably my second favorite Ministry LP… simply because you could literally FEEL the smack flowing through your veins as soon as you put it on. Shame Al cut out the sax and other errata. I’d kill to get a copy of the unbutchered stuff… and Happy Dust.
Funny, I felt waves of messy instrumentation, loss of focus, and eventual boredom from listening to DSOTS, but we won’t start that whole song-and-dance again, now, will we?!
Happy Dust is what it is…a fun, passable b-side. Nothing more.
By the way, count this as a ‘drunken post’, emseaeye, as I just finished knocking down several IPAs while watching my beloved Phoenix Suns play like total assholes tonight.

i want three songs in cdda lossless quality - step, nursing home extended versions and original supermanic soul. al why didn’t you release them!?
I just tune my radio to an empty station, crank it all the way up, and tell people it’s the new Merzbow cd.

Last week, was the . first time EVER that I heard that album. Was reluctant for so long because of all the flack i’ve heard it receive. But I like it (or most, at least). It’s funny, but at the same time, seems like a cry for help. Curious to hear the original versions now; since that’s what this thread is originally about, afterall.

Your grammar is fine, as far as I can tell.
I picked up Merzbuta a few weeks ago and can highly recommend it to anyone interested in noise. How’s the experimentation with a new sound been going?

Certainly.
Did anybody else notice that the live version of “Beers Steers and Queers” from last year more or less incorporates “Happy Dust”?
how? i listened to the ottawa live set and found nothing different from the album version, let alone any things from happy dust.
The little riff Al played on guitar is very similar to it. I liked that addition.
