Government Shut down

Democrat, Republican, whatever . . . .

All I see is, like a previous poster noted, Kabuki theatre. I don’t even have to postulate or get political. Just look at the surface level observable obvious details . . .

… A bunch of douches declare the government “shut down”.
… The same douches put a bunch of people on “furlough”.
… The furloughed employees are still going to get paid . . . .

Okay, so . . . . we can already (unless you are an insane person) agree that the government is paying their own employees to NOT WORK, right?

But what about all those national parks and such that are now “shut down”? Do they just lock a gate and leave? No, they are dispatching the same (or others) people that would typically be assisting guests in having a great day to now handle perimeter control. Yeah, those rangers and park service people (as seen in the video Mooney posted) are now standing guard to make sure no one uses cool stuff in their joy-inducing ways that they were originally intended for.

So, I don’t know who the puppet masters are that are deciding what resources get used where but it seems to me that it is just a bunch of smoke and mirrors to create some heartstring-pulling YouTube clips and CNN talking points AS F**KING USUAL and no one does a damn thing to actually create value or make a damn difference.

So, have I changed my mind at all since the beginning of this monkey show? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

I just can’t believe people still fall for this crap.

Okay, Fine, then!

Democrats are worse!

Think what you want. but for many on the board that hoot and holler about how the media is part of the problem they sure do push the same narrative as the main stream media, and that is that Dems and republicans are both equally bad, and that clearly is not the case. The dems have bent over and compromised way more than than the republicans have. The repubs have cried and whined over policy way more than Dems have.

Even when Obama had the majority after he was elected he still tried to compromise his policies rather then ramming them through. So, yes Virginia, they are not the same.

You never saw this much obstruction when W was in office and the Republicans did way more damage to the US than the Dems have by barring companies from profiting off of your death.

How anyone, today, could still have the blinders on and claim that both sides engage in the same shit is beyond me. They just buy into our “Liberal” media I guess.

Democrat, Republican, whatever . . . .

Not really, there is a difference and as a dude who majored in sociology you specifically should know the difference.

Okay, so . . . . we can already (unless you are an insane person) agree that the government is paying their own employees to NOT WORK, right?

This is true. But, how is this theater? they are not getting paid until the government starts up again. So, if they are furloughed 3 years, then they are furloughed for three years without getting paid. It’s retroactive. It’s not like they hang out at home and still get a check.

But what about all those national parks and such that are now “shut down”? Do they just lock a gate and leave? No, they are dispatching the same (or others) people that would typically be assisting guests in having a great day to now handle perimeter control.

It’s a skeleton crew at best, and it’s not just park rangers. it’s the FDA (you know the people who help keep rat shit out of your soup-well at least before it gets to the restaurant) [url http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2013/09/politics/government-shutdown-impact/]HERE is a list of the agencies shut down or working with a skeleton crew

So, I don’t know who the puppet masters are that are deciding what resources get used where

No one “decides” It’s always been, “non essential” government functions. Non essential meaning stopping it leads to imminent danger. Like stopping the Police Force, or air traffic controllers and such.

but it seems to me that it is just a bunch of smoke and mirrors to create some heartstring-pulling YouTube clips and CNN talking points AS F**KING USUAL and no one does a damn thing to actually create value or make a damn difference.

That’s because most of the time you only pay attention to details at the surface for comic effect. This ain’t one of those times

So, have I changed my mind at all since the beginning of this monkey show? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

Well, seriously, how much do you really know about it?

Okay. Well, you’ve basically explained partly why the Dems are a major part of the problem - They’re pussies. That almost makes them worse than the “bad guys” because they have actual power and are in a position to do something right and instead they bend over backwards and compromise.

So, I’m assuming, since you made it clear yourself in your own post, that you do realize that you’re supporting and defending people who bend over backwards and compromise with the bad guys you’re against?

if you just ram your shit through that makes you as bad as the people that did it before you. The ends don’t justify the means. I understand the want for compromise but with that being said…

… Yeah, I’m not happy with the democratic party for over negotiating, their policy. Again, I understand why they would want to (you don’t want to become what you loathe about your opponent) but when it becomes obvious there is no ability to compromise you push ahead and make sure it was duly noted that you tried.

These traits don’t make these two parties equal at all though.

Hey, I don’t want my tax dollars going to a war or Congressional salaries and insurance for those who are already wealthy, but I don’t get a choice.

I (and 799,999 people) did not ask for a government shutdown or to be furloughed. Due to Federal Ethics laws, we are prohibited from seeking employment from certain companies in certain positions that relate to what it is we do for a living. Additionally, there are not many jobs here (my particular duty station) because we had several thousand employees pink slipped in the last three years when shuttle ended, not too many new contracts, and none on that massive of a scale. Unemployment here is capped at $275/week; I can’t even pay my rent with that. If we don’t go back to work by 21 October (payday would be on the 8th of Nov.), I can’t make it until 22 November (the following payday) unless I sell off stuff in my house.

Is there a Win-Win scenario here where the Rs, Ts, and Ds can come away satisfied? No winners, no losers.

Shutting down the gov had been planned months in advance. Seriously, read up on the Congressional exemption to the ACA for Congress and Congressional staffers. Boehner f’ed up, OPM had to fix a few things, etc. The Senate and House both passed spending bills 5 to 6 months ago. The Dems sent Pelosi to negotiate with the Reps 18 times. The Reps refused every time. Eventually, the Senate agreed to extend the sequestration cuts (a far reduced budget than what they felt was needed) that the House wanted, much to their dismay. Boehner agreed to this several months ago, and then they tacked on the defunding of ACA. Then they changed to delaying ACA one year. Now he is afraid of losing his Speaker position and that is why he is not budging on the simple up or down vote in the House for a clean CR.

We are on our way to NWO.

We are on our way to NWO.

Huh?

If we don’t go back to work by 21 October (payday would be on the 8th of Nov.), I can’t make it until 22 November (the following payday) unless I sell off stuff in my house.

Just tell your landlord the situation. I don’t know of any landlord that wouldn’t work something out with you (and many, if they’re cool, will just let you slide on being a couple weeks late for once or twice if you’ve got a good record of payment).

PBS is lame.
I can’t for the life of me remember the last time I watched it.

Bleeding hearts cry about Sesame Street being killed if PBS dies. Are you kidding me? Sesame Street is a bazillion dollar enterprise. I don’t know why it’s on Public Television to begin with. If anyone thinks Sesame Street would go off the air because of lack of funding they are insane. It would get sold to the highest bidding station the same as any other TV show. Only difference is you’d have more commercials.

I have a fairly good grip on understanding how the system works. Thus, the money given to the PBC does not make my fur stand on end like it does certain other people. Additionally, I watch a few PBS programs from time time (Antiques Roadshow, NOVA, etc.), and I watched Sesame Street and Electric Company when I was little.

Rent first, bills second, food third.
I am a renter that pretty much every landlord wishes they had.

My landlord is ASAF stationed in the Los Angeles area. She is very well aware of the situation as she has civil servants who work with her. I send her rent checks quarterly (three checks every four months) because I travel too much and sending it electronically is not possible between her bank and mine (we tried). I also take very good care of her house for her (cleaned it, fixed a lot of things that were broken, replaced things that were missing, trimmed the shrubs, cleaned the rain gutters, and cleaned up the landscaping, etc.). I’ve owned two houses; I know that they need maintenance.

Sesame Street is ALL privately funded. that came out during one of the debates where mittens said he would fire big bird.

PBS is hardly the propaganda machine that fox is or even AM radio. So, if that’s all the Government has going as far as propaganda. no wonder their message can’t get out. PBS can’t hold a candle to the noise machines that the others are.

Excellent. It shouldn’t be a major hassle, then, for her to wait a few extra weeks for your paid vacation to end so you can get your rent check to her.

Unless by “food” you mean dining out or something, I think you might have your priorities a little out of alignment. You gotta eat, Sister. And most bills, when necessary, can be put off a month as well (sometimes with a small penalty).

HaHa yeah, a senator even came right out and said this on national TV. lol. I double took when I heard it. adults shouldn’t have to live like they’re still in college.

HAHAHA!!! I didn’t follow the story much (so I didn’t know it was acknowledged that Sesame was all private funds), but yeah, that’s the stink I was referring to. OH MY GOD!!! Romney wants to shut down Sesame Street!!!

Does anyone claim it to be a propaganda machine (okay, I’m sure there are some nuts out there, but I mean, is this a common mantra?)?

I don’t care what’s on PBS. I don’t think it is propaganda (or no more than any station, I should say). I just don’t think it is particularly relative or useful anymore.

If it’s between PBS and another Stealth Bomber, or some ACTUAL education funding (schools/ teachers, etc.) I say kick Bert and Ernie to the curb.

Yeah, I’ve always remembered the M.A.D. magazine joke that said “PBS stands for Pretty Boring Stuff”

Well that’s an easy call.

You’re right. Thanks. I guess it didn’t really register with me as I didn’t think he was actually commenting on PBS itself but just on how certain parts of the “shut down” story get highlighted by the DAMN LIBERAL MEDIA, while other stuff not so much.

That’s probably what he meant but I didn’t read it that way, which is probably why we butt heads consistently on politics. I didn’t even consider that angle on his post.

Based on the comments, it looked like a conservative website to me.

I don’t eat very much, and I am pretty frugal with food.
I have to take several specific vitamins, which can get pretty expensive.
I have a D3/Calcium deficiency. I went through a little trial and error to find just the right brand/combo to get my levels into the normal range.

Not shocking in the least.
