GODFLESH "US AND THEM"

actually, I think SOLAH In Dub owns the original,

Strongly disagree with that.

I mean it should have…but it didn’t…maybe if Bill Laswell had of done the Dub???

Have you heard Sly And Robbie Drum And Bass Strip To The Bone By Howie B??? That is the most devastating badass alien Dub record out there…you can usually pick it up cheap too.

I always thought selfless was a good godflesh cd…

Oh god now you’vr gone and done it!

Yeah Selfless has got some king-pin slower tracks. “Anything Is Mine” and “Toll” are also totally fuckin badass!!!

“Us And Them” is better though[cool]

I had Selfless on vinyl (mint condition) and some prickhead stole it when I threw a house party.

Can you imagine the nerve?

well, at least the thief had good taste

[cool]

A cunt with good taste sadly…gigaddy.

Listening to this record again for the first time in awhile. Alright yeah it’s certainly really awesome despite some of the crappy lyrics here and there and the nu metal elements (though they and Ministry kind of pioneered that style before it was taken to ugly places so that is forgiven).

It’s a really great listen!! It’s kind of schizophrenic like ‘The Process’ and you can see why they broke up soon after. Mainstream (at the time) tendencies creeping in, identity crisis of “are we a metal band or a cutting edge dub electro thing?”

Wonderful!

This one and SoLaH officially beat out Selfless as my favorites. SoLaH might be my absolute favorite Flesh record. You gotta listen to it with big-ass headphones to really appreciate it.

If I want to listen to heavy beats/distortion/groove/atmosphere then I’ll listen to any number of albums before I’d even bother with US AND THEM. Not sure it would even make my top 50 - where that kind of thing is concerned.

Funny how no one yet has mentioned Greymachine.

If i were to pick the least boring GF this would be it. i just can’t take the ‘all the songs are four sentences long and shouted in that same monotone gf souns’ seriously

Because Greymachine’s on that next level shit. Beats the FUCK outta pretty much everything in the JKB canon.

So what are the superior albums that will do the job, oh eternally elite one?

I like Greymachine but I like ‘Us And Them’ for it’s greater accessibility.

The songs have more different parts. Just two different styles of music IMO.

Also it’s funny I’ve found with many music elitists, hipsters etc. they will prefer something where the vocals are unintelligible than where they can understand the words but they think the lyrics suck.

That is not a criticism, but an observation.

I have respect for justin, to be able to survive industrial metal and still have the creative energy to venture into dub and shoegaze…he is just a creative fucker and not resting on past achievments. Plus he hates trance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3WcjeqiF70[laugh]

Trust me, I’m not offended.

For “superior” beat oriented heavy music, probably check out…

Grey Machine - Disconnected (well…derr)
Techno Animal - Radio Hades (oh Justin)
Blood Of Heroes - Blood Of Heroes (there’s that Justin fella again)
Scorn - Evanescence
Brighter Death Now - Innerwar (kinda)
NON - God And Beast (although it doesn’t really fall into this category)
OLD - Formula
James Plotkin - The Joy Of Disease
MZ 412 - Burning The Temple Of God (although it’s more blackmetal/noise than groove)
Cut Hands - Afro Noise 1

Not sure I’m that much of a “hipster” - just very selective in what I listen to. I certainly ain’t “cool”.

and GreyMachine is the penultimate in great career if he was to die tomorrow…it doesnt get any more beautiful than that

Really? I’d say Hymns. Us and Them is all over the place, and that’s why I like it. Hymns just sounds forced to me. Rather listen to this than that one. I actually avoid Hymns altogether. Not because I say I don’t want to, I just never do. I usually go straight to SOTAH.

Its okay. I like half of it. It’s really split down the middle - I think Justin really didn’t know what to do at the time…honestly he probably waited a few more years to put out something under the name of Godflesh instead.

It’s funny, I like the remix records more than the albums themselves in Godflesh’s case - something I do with NIN too.

This album starts off great but after the title track it’s filler until Defiled. If it didn’t have those filler trax in between the title track and Defiled then I would say that this is the perfect Godflesh album next to the self titled EP. Bittersweet is the best track off that whole album. That remix of the title track that was on In All Languages would’ve been a nice bonus as well. Of course that was planned for a Us & Them remix album that never saw the light of day.

I never heard Greymachine but I do like NON and Techno Animal, even Curse Of the Golden Vampire.
