Everyone on this forum should run out and buy Greymachine.
Sadly, they probably won’t.
Also Scorn’s Colossus is a great starting point for those interested in groove heavy, dark breakbeat albums.
Listening to it as I type this.

Godflesh never made a bad album, just less good ones. Very few great bands can hold that flag. Fuck all, in fact.
I don’t really get people making a big issue out of the singing and the lyrics. Firstly it’s a harsh form of metal and the growling/shouting style is well suited to it. The lyrics are very simple and straighforward; there’s nothing pretentious about them nor are they too intrusive so as to take from the music. They’re more of an afterthought, which is fine by me. If you listen to metal for lyrics you have a problem. Yeah it could resist criticism better if they were more original but as most the focus is on aggression if you try to make it sound fancy you defeat your own purpose.
Also, Greymachine have been mentioned plenty of times here. Disconnected got circulation here when it came out and I’ve seen it been mentioned a number of times. It’s a quality album but it’s no jesu s/t or Messiah
I thought the Greymachine album was crap.
Blood Of Heroes I found kind of lame too and that had some of my all-time favourite artists on it.
The second Curse Of The Golden Vampire record I also detest. The first one had some great sounds on it though here & there.
This thread is vintage!

SOLAH is by far my favorite album. The best release to me would be Cold World/Nihil. Nihil in particular is one of the darkest tunes ever committed to tape.
Scorn was amazing until about 1997. I totally lost track of them after that.

Most metal, yes. But some Black Metal has good lyrics.
But Justin’s lyrics on SOLAH and Us And Them stand out because they are so darn cringeworthy. Usually I ignore the lyrics - as long as they sound decent I don’t care what the person is singing.
I can see why people who like this sort of thing would dig those two albums. Personally I find them far too much of a departure from the “classic” Streetcleaner/SlaveState/Pure period. To me, they just aren’t Godflesh. The groove oriented dub/hip hop beats and grizzled, shouty vocal style doesn’t sit well with me. I much prefer his vocal style on the first few Jesu albums - dissonant, far off, singing from the other end of a long tunnel type sound. Reminds me of Pornography era Cure - except more otherworldly.
Leave the hip hop/metal/crunch shit to Korn and their ilk, Justin. It ain’t you.
And Akbar…“Greymachine is crap”…???

Alright…clam down…calm down…
Uh oh. Somebody mentioned Godflesh’s Us And Them and my Shit Album Alarm just went nuts!

Just for you Peligro at some stage today I’ll pop some cans on and blast Greymachine from start to finish again and see if I still can’t stand it.
In return you have to pop some killer phones on and check out one of my all-time fave albums…Sly & Robbie Stripped To The Bone By Howie B. Legendary Jamaican Riddim Twins Sly & Robbie lay down some rock solid rhythms while Scottish producer Howie B goes to town in the studio…here’s a few tunes from it…if you dig’em hunt the album down…it was released in 99 and I still consider it the freshest Dub album to come out over the last 30yrs by a country mile…the tune Drilling For Oil is missing from youtube now though

OK I gave the greymachine album another spin and I’m sorry but it’s just utter garbage…I can’t see how you could get enjoyed from listening to that? The beats are horrible…the drums sound crap…the layering upon layering of distortion isn’t entertaining, there’s no groove to 99.99% of it and the screeching vocals are horrible…maybe all of the above is the way it was planned (I’m sure it was) and there’s obviously a fan base for it…but man that type of sound is beyond me.
I find it strange Peligro has a go at Justin’s vocals on SOLAH & Us & Them yet lets the Greymachine attrocity fly under the radar.
I didn’t like Greymachine either.
And I don’t like Jesu.
Godflesh is cool, though.
I like most of JKB’s work (Jesu, godflesh, final), but GREYMACHINE is a real difficult listen.
Something must be right about Greymachine - if the majority of people here don’t “get” it.
One of the best albums of 2010.
I would recommend it to fans of Wolf Eyes, Neurosis, Prurient, Grey Wolves. Can’t wait for the follow up album.

And what exactly is it do you think we don’t get?
Also what exactly is it about Greymachine’s music that gives you listening pleasure?
I don’t get it. I tried listening to it yesterday and my opinion still hasn’t changed much. And this is coming from a guy who adores early neubauten, it’s just noise with no direction. Hard on the ears. Rattling low bass, and a shitload of distortion.
I liked the Greymachine album but I don’t share the ‘prongs majority don’t get it - must be good’ sentiment. This is one of the last places to judge the merit of something by how poorly it is received here in general, i.e. a general consensus here can have weight, not just recycled opinion and ass-kissing. It’s fair to say most here have distaste for nu-Ministry, which is a solid indicator.
I don’t think Greymachine is supposed to be anything other than an ugly-as-hell nightmare, which can be cool to listen to at certain times. It serves its purpose.
I definitely got the nightmare vibe out of it. It’s VERY difficult on my ears to handle. I like some of it though (we are all fucking liars).
Rattling low bass,
Hahahaha…that I can handle…ESPECIALLY if the bassline has a killer groove to it. I do admit the bass did have glimmers of that vintage venom of Godflesh’s bass guitar sound from waaaaaaaay back in the day…that doesn’t save it from sucking though in my book.
Horrible stuff.
Peligro & Olsen’s love for Greymachine inspired me…

Bass doesn’t bother me at all. Very godflesh. Pretty much everything else.

Yeah hopefully they’ll do a Dub of it…get rid of everything except the bass and have Brian Mantia come in and lay some good sound drums over it and PRESTO!!! I think that’s a Greymachine release I’d dig.
