gameshow/deadguy

Since every once in awhile we talk about some of our favorite ministry songs, I think these two should have gotten more credit. Gameshow should have been played live . Also, if ’ lay lady’ and ‘brickwindows’ (though i love that song) were dropped off FP throw TV3 somewhere in there and let FP end with gameshow/fall would have made it flow better and end on a dark note

p.s. does anyone have a full live version of deadguy live?

I’m all for dropping Brick Windows and putting TV III on (even though I’m barely a fan of TV II (and the other TV songs aren’t all that great either) mostly because of Mikey’s guitar playing, used to like the lyrics but they’re silly to the point of stupid now) I really like Gameshow though, gives off an excellent vibe! Dead Guy is just an awesome song for being what it is. no vibe, no slick noodley riff just an awesome sound.

I think they perform it on a 2003 video boot That a P.A. member shot. I’m sure it’s been probably converted over to mp3 or flack by now.

Gameshow is a great track, probably one of their most underrated, especially that middle “breakdown” part with all the craziness. I think, however, that lay lady lay and brick windows are needed so as to round off the album and and on a somewhat positive/upbeat note. That’s one of the qualities that makes Filth Pig one of my favorites.

TVIII would have made a great bonus or hidden track on Filth Pig, but then no one would have wanted to buy that Fall single. On my MP3 player I stick TVIII at the end of Filth Pig just because it is such a great track from that era, and the single versions of the fall and reload (my least fav track on the album) don’t seem to differ to terribly much from the ones one the album anyway.

Pretty sure that “PA member” was me, and, while I posted on there, it wasn’t for their benefit, though I made it out to be. It was basically a bullshit excuse to legally record it [laugh] Angie was nice about it though.

There was more than one video boot though, I believe Milwaukee, as well as London were filmed. They are out there.

And I love Brick Windows, but honestly I think a lot of people would’ve liked the album a lot more if it would’ve just ended with The Fall. Or maybe not. Who knows.

Brick Windows and The Fall are the two tracks I whole hearted love off of Filth Pig, everything else is variable to me.

Yeah, i know al wanted it to end upbeat and with some light at the end of the tnle but, i think that’s what turned 16 yr old me off in '96 and prob alot of others back in those angry day’s 29yr old me can apprieciate it now though. The only live version of deadguy i can find find is on youtube and cut’s off after the first verse…better yet does anyone have a complete copy of a fornica show? pref. euro first leg i saw an american show of course and kinda wanna here a tia sprocket show

I think that is a pretty common theme… I’m 30 and I HATED Filth Pig when it was released… I guess I just wanted Psalm 69 II at the time, or for Al to go back to some synth/programmed drum action (not with sympathy, but more LORAH or Mind). Love FP now, I think now it is my favorite album of theirs.

I know we’ve discussed Brick Windows on this forum and it seems to be one of the most divisive Ministry tracks, at least from their “classic” material before the Bush shit.

Not really a fan of Brick Windows for the most part. Sometimes I warm up to it but mostly I find myself drifting away from it again for some reason??

TVIII was fantastic…pure gangster funk mayhem!

Filth Pig and Dark Side are the only ministry albums I think that have a perfect run down, ie. no filler, all songs are worthy.

Am very fond of Gameshow and I agree it should have been played live. It has that potential to allow the players to fuck around with it and lay it out over 15 mins+ live.

Dead Guy might just be Ministry’s best conventional hard rock tune. It is fucking awesome live. I can’t capture here the sheer rush of excitement when they broke into that after playing the first 3 Animo… tracks when I saw them.

Brick Windows is one of my favourite Ministry tracks. It shows what they can do with a different tempo. If REM were any good they would play songs like Brick Windows. I also think its the best thing they could have done with the end of the album.

I’m going to run through this album again right now.

YURGGGGGHHHHHHH!

I loved Filth Pig when it came out. It was perfect for my 21 year old headspace.

I think a lot of people wanted Psalm 70 which is why Filth Pig choked used cd bins for years after its release.

HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU NOT LIKE BRICK WINDOWS??!!1

Besides, you can swap out “Reload” and “The Fall” with their single versions, throw on “Paisley,” “TVIII” and “Lion’s Mouth,” and wind up with a record less than eighty minutes long. Perfect.

too bad al didn’t even play most of the songs when he was touring for the damn cd…

“Brick Windows” is the shit. How anyone can dislike it is beyond me. End ‘Filth Pig’ on a dark note? Oh how predictable. Fuck that. The track listing is great and I think ending on that note is one of the best things about the album.

Yeah “Game Show” and “Dead Guy” rock. They’re kind of cut from the same cloth, with “Dead Guy” being more immediate.

It’s annoying how at the start of the “Reload” music video it’s the intro of “Dead Guy” (I hate when bands do this) and you’re just waiting for that sick riff to come in and then suddenly the awkward jagged lurch of “Reload” starts.

I always thought that should have been the single for ‘Filth Pig’. Or perhaps “Crumbs”. Hell even “Brick Windows” would have been good as a single.

“Reload” is fucking awesome but it took me awhile to get into it. When I first heard it, it sounded too jagged and clanking. The vocal delivery seemed “dumb” to me. Now I see it’s an awesome tune, but far too bizarre for a single.

After hearing the ‘Dark Side of the Spoon’ live boot, I totally came. But I’d really like to hear a boot from ‘Animositisomina’ era.

EDIT - “TV III” is definitely not album material. If it had vocals maybe…Closest I could see it is as a hidden track. which would have been cool. “Paisley” is great and could have made the cut, but it would have been too many slow songs.

Does anyone have a lossless of “Lion’s Mouth”?

ok, whats lion’s mouth? (excuse my ignorance)

It didn’t get a lot of push, but Ministry (or Warner Brothers) agreed with you:

Nice. Does anyone have this? Know what the non-album version sounds like?

It think I have it buried in the basement.

I have it. it’s all album. The edit is just the the album cut but minus a couple bars of chord progression. I don’t really remember specifically because I detest that song! but i have both versions of the singles and both versions are the same just the packaging is different.

I guess could listen a little later and get back to you.
Late,

ok so in general you have er, standard filthpig album and the following songs that were recorded at approx the same time:

lion’s mouth
tv 3
paisley

and the following diff versions:

reload (single/long/12’’ version)
the fall (single/long/12’’ version)
lay lady lay (eidt) - which is shorter
brick windows (edit) - which is shorter

lions mouth - was then released on leary tribute cd. iirc someone from ministry said that it was gonna appear on FP album tracklist.

paisley - shifted to b-side. on acoustic bridge school shows al introduced this song as “from our next album”. waddayaknow.

by the wonders of today’s technology one sure can create their own versions of an album. i actually like the idea of shifting tv3 to be hidden track - mainly because it’s produced sound (and lion’s mouth as well) is way different from overall sound of filth pig album (esp. drums, + loads of samples, while album has very odd sample here and there). tv3 is like happy dust to spoon… from same time period but way too different.

tv3+lions mouth as a hidden tracks combo, that would be good! and paisley somewhere in the middle of main tracklist.

you can safely replace reload & fall with their longer single versions there; and i guess if you can’t throw out LLL and brick windows, you can use the short versions!

it’s a WIN-WIN!

after FP being whole slow 54mins, dark side kinda under-delivered in that department, only 45 mins.

give me supermanic soul with samples. give me extended versions of step & nursing home. GIEFFFFFF!!!
