Gamers...

A lot of the gaming forums that I frequent are full of angry Xbox’ers lol. Claiming theyre switching to PC or PS4. Doubt it though. Just angry fanboyism speaking.

Another thing about this whole used game anti-consumer debacle is that microsoft feels entitled to every cent even after the initial purchase, because some people believe that used games hurt the industry. Which is a buncha bs.

They’re like “Ohhh you want to play this 5 year old game that your friend let you borrow do ya? Fuck you pay me.”

Developers themselves have said theres no indication that used games hurt the industry, if anything, it helps. You don’t owe them shit after the initial purchase. MS is bogus. To my knowledge Sony wont be doing this.

Yeah, Sony’s definitely got Microsoft by the balls when it comes to these next gen consoles, in my opinion. Not that Sony isn’t also an evil corporation that rapes kittens and bloodies the hands of little Asian children, but they seem to actually be putting forward things to make their next console a much more enjoyable experience (especially when it comes to indie developers). Consumer and game focused.

I remember everyone was shocked that Sony announced the PS4 before Microsoft announced their next console. It’s obvious why they did so now. And if they plan on keeping PSN free while revamping it along with PS+ there’s no doubt they’ll dominate in sales.

Also, Sony’s apparently okay with trading games/used games and finding ways to work around to where you can download your old PS3 games on to the PS4. While I imagine Microsoft will start charging you a dollar (or 20 “Microsoft points” or whatever the fuck they call them) for every time you turn on your controller or some shit.

They made their 60 on the game. And they make even more from Xbox live subscriptions. They’re not hurting. They probably won the war of last gen consoles. They’re making bank already. And by them doing this is a real slap in the face to their consumer base. It’s going to be a rough start for them.

And I find it funny how most sites covering it are weary of even mentioning the drm. It’s the elephant in the room for them.

Doubtful a few of my friends are indie game developers. Often they release their games or projects in progress through. And thats both through Microsoft and Sony.

What are you doubtful about? One of the main things I keep seeing the PS4 getting praised about is it’s accessibility and focus towards indie developers.

IKR.

Everything will be revealed at E3 though; Price, release date, games and all that hoopla. One thing’s for certain, xbox has sealed its fate with all that used games and always online crap.

A friend of mine is trying to sell me on the concept of building a gaming pc. While they may look better at times, I’m fairly certain the games have fairly similar drm that the new xbox is doing.

I don’t think it’s quite the same with Steam but I might be wrong. I’d totally build a monster gaming PC but I need that separation from my computer stuff and sitting on the couch playing games with a controller. There’s just something more appealing to me about it. Rather than hunching over, spamming my keyboard for 7 hours.

Some of the mods (and obviously the graphics) for PC games are insane though. I’d love to play GTA IV with all of the crazy ass mods and Fallout: New Vegas where it’s optimized and has some sort of mod that cleans up the graphics a bit. Fuck, I love New Vegas.

i love steam as a content delivery system and generally it’s just fucking awesome, never had problems with it. it can work in offline mode too. plus, usually people point out good deals it offers from time to time. however, “online only” thing that is built-in nowadays into modern games sucks of course, but it’s a game’s “feature” nowadays, not the “system”'s feature (like steam).

steam is great to buy games, download them and just play 'em, and getting DLC is easy as well, compared to, say, one DLC for BioShock2 i was buying in Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live (same thing as X-Box Live Arcade or some shit) - that was such a fucking pain in the ass. made me appreciate steam even more.

I bought Bioshock 2 through Steam and the version they gave me was unpatched - which I didn’t realize until I was halfway through the game when it suddenly started freezing up after playing for only a few seconds.
I installed the patch, but all saves from before then were unaffected. #&$(*#&^@!!!

well BioShock2 is only sold on Steam.

afterwards, unfortunately, it uses Games for Windows Live - and it gets the updates and patches there, and requires to be online to play, etc…

so that’s not Steam issue. when i bought it, it downloaded updates from within the game’s thingy from Games for Windows Live, not through steam.

The thing that scares me a bit with Steam is the fact that if I buy something, and they decide to pull something off their server, i’m screwed. When I have a disc, I feel a bit more confident that I won’t lose anything, like it’s a backup. I hear Steam has some great deals though.

Also, my main skepticism towards PC gaming (currently) is the fact that i’ll probably hook it up through my tv, but I also want to use it as an actual computer. So even if I do it, i’m really not sure how i’ll really pull it off as a computer/gaming system.

But if you can play your Steam game in offline mode, shouldn’t that mean you could play it if it’s not on their server?

Doubtful that Microsoft will charge or reward system of points assigned when you turn on your controller.

More than likely it’ll be synced with persons cell phone bils, given Windows smart phones comes with games to download off their game section, like Iphones and Android. All of which I suspect use cloud computing.

Uh, I wasn’t being in anyway serious when I said that. It was a jab at how Microsoft charges people for pretty much everything when it comes to the Xbox.

That’s what smileys are for. They convey the tone you can’t read through in text. Learn how to use them…

The jab was pretty easy to read as sarcasm. Microsoft is a greedy little bitch.

Rumors are popping up that Sony is on the fence about the used games fees. They’re pretty much leaving it up to the developers. If both major consoles go down that route it could mean the end for places like Gamestop.

There will be used games. When you buy a game and install it, it gets linked to your account. You can trade in. They do something to wipe it from your account and resell it. And now Microsoft now gets a cut from used game sales.

You don’tremember when suites and time shares actually did have the rent/buy buttons on video game controllers for certain video game systems do you?
