Normally i wouldn’t even bother pointing out how pathetic all this Al bashing is, but i feel like i have to comment. The rant above, which i can’t be arsed quoting or referring to, is one of the most immature, spiteful, little crybaby screeds i have ever read in my fucking life.
Grow up. If you don’t like Ministry, fair enough, you don’t need to comment. You have no personal stake in Ministry whatsoever, it is Al Jourgensen’s band, his name is on the albums, not yours, if it’s shit he takes the blame. If it’s good, he takes the blame from whiners who refuse to acknowledge that it’s good, because they’re so transfixed on their “WAAAAH, I HATE AL” routine that they are blinded to any quality it might have.
If he does something new, they hate it. If he does something like what he’s done before, they hate it. From where i’m standing it seem the guy can’t win with some of his “fans”. Nobody is forcing you to listen. If i like a band and they continually disappoint me, eventually i stop buying their products, or even downloading them, NIN, Marilyn Manson and KMFDM being cases in point. What i do not do is go to forums that discuss those bands and pour my venom out day after day, week after week, year after fucking year, like some sad little child with nothing better to do but cry about how the bad man disappointed me.
Get it through your head, Al Jourgensen, Ministry, whatever, they owe us NOTHING. They have given us plenty in the past couple of decades that we can still love even if the new stuff is not to our oh-so-sophisticated tastes.
If the man wants to put out an album, that’s his business, it’s his job, it’s his living. He will continue to do so as he wishes. I imagine he is in no doubt as to his place in the celebrity world of Mansons and Kardashians. He knows who likes him, he can see the record sales and the numbers at his shows, he’s under no illusions.
He made a new album with his friend, who then sadly passed away. He’s going to release that album as a tribute to his friend, and i’m sure he hopes that his fans (the actual fans, not people who’ve hated him for the past decade and just can’t get over) enjoy it. I mean, is that alright? Does he have your permission? What have you done that’s so great? Let’s hear your album so we can offer opinions.
There are past members of Ministry who post on the forum, people who no doubt have good reason to be pissed off at Al, yet they have more grace and humour than someone who doesn’t know him, has no connection with him at all, apart from buying records and going to shows, and really has no right to be such a vicious, moaning crybaby. If you don’t like him, don’t buy it. You should know by now what to expect.
I’m sorry if anyone’s offended by what i’ve said, i have nothing against anyone on this forum, i try not to get into arguments with anyone, and i think pretty much everyone seems like good people - the ones i met in Dublin at the C U La Tour shows were great people - but come on. Grow up, stop feeling so entitled. Al owes you nothing. Nobody’s forcing you to listen. Enough is enough. This isn’t aimed at anyone in particular, it’s a response to the cumulative tide of shite spewed out every time Ministry do something new. I just think in general there’s so much negativity and bitterness here, it’s depressing. I’m all for having a laugh at Al’s expense, he certainly gives us enough ammunition, especially with the lyrics on Relapse, but when people start taking it so seriously and getting so vicious and petty, it’s just sad.
*and no, i am not Mrs J [:)]
Excellent post Jay. Totally agree with your comments. Yeah I haven’t like Ministry since 2003 but I always give him a chance. If I don’t like it, I move on. From Gunner’s post, I’m looking forward to the new release.
Yeah the last two covers are crapping. So what. In the age of digital, covers don’t matter anymore. Of course if the artist puts an effort into the cover and design, more power to them.
