From Beer To Eternity cover revealed

Normally i wouldn’t even bother pointing out how pathetic all this Al bashing is, but i feel like i have to comment. The rant above, which i can’t be arsed quoting or referring to, is one of the most immature, spiteful, little crybaby screeds i have ever read in my fucking life.

Grow up. If you don’t like Ministry, fair enough, you don’t need to comment. You have no personal stake in Ministry whatsoever, it is Al Jourgensen’s band, his name is on the albums, not yours, if it’s shit he takes the blame. If it’s good, he takes the blame from whiners who refuse to acknowledge that it’s good, because they’re so transfixed on their “WAAAAH, I HATE AL” routine that they are blinded to any quality it might have.

If he does something new, they hate it. If he does something like what he’s done before, they hate it. From where i’m standing it seem the guy can’t win with some of his “fans”. Nobody is forcing you to listen. If i like a band and they continually disappoint me, eventually i stop buying their products, or even downloading them, NIN, Marilyn Manson and KMFDM being cases in point. What i do not do is go to forums that discuss those bands and pour my venom out day after day, week after week, year after fucking year, like some sad little child with nothing better to do but cry about how the bad man disappointed me.

Get it through your head, Al Jourgensen, Ministry, whatever, they owe us NOTHING. They have given us plenty in the past couple of decades that we can still love even if the new stuff is not to our oh-so-sophisticated tastes.

If the man wants to put out an album, that’s his business, it’s his job, it’s his living. He will continue to do so as he wishes. I imagine he is in no doubt as to his place in the celebrity world of Mansons and Kardashians. He knows who likes him, he can see the record sales and the numbers at his shows, he’s under no illusions.

He made a new album with his friend, who then sadly passed away. He’s going to release that album as a tribute to his friend, and i’m sure he hopes that his fans (the actual fans, not people who’ve hated him for the past decade and just can’t get over) enjoy it. I mean, is that alright? Does he have your permission? What have you done that’s so great? Let’s hear your album so we can offer opinions.

There are past members of Ministry who post on the forum, people who no doubt have good reason to be pissed off at Al, yet they have more grace and humour than someone who doesn’t know him, has no connection with him at all, apart from buying records and going to shows, and really has no right to be such a vicious, moaning crybaby. If you don’t like him, don’t buy it. You should know by now what to expect.

I’m sorry if anyone’s offended by what i’ve said, i have nothing against anyone on this forum, i try not to get into arguments with anyone, and i think pretty much everyone seems like good people - the ones i met in Dublin at the C U La Tour shows were great people - but come on. Grow up, stop feeling so entitled. Al owes you nothing. Nobody’s forcing you to listen. Enough is enough. This isn’t aimed at anyone in particular, it’s a response to the cumulative tide of shite spewed out every time Ministry do something new. I just think in general there’s so much negativity and bitterness here, it’s depressing. I’m all for having a laugh at Al’s expense, he certainly gives us enough ammunition, especially with the lyrics on Relapse, but when people start taking it so seriously and getting so vicious and petty, it’s just sad.

*and no, i am not Mrs J [:)]

Excellent post Jay. Totally agree with your comments. Yeah I haven’t like Ministry since 2003 but I always give him a chance. If I don’t like it, I move on. From Gunner’s post, I’m looking forward to the new release.

Yeah the last two covers are crapping. So what. In the age of digital, covers don’t matter anymore. Of course if the artist puts an effort into the cover and design, more power to them.

Quality post…yeah some of the Al bashing posts are overly cynical and predictably boring…[/reply]

Uh, but what you just added to the conversation could not have been of lesser quality or more predictable and boring. You may as well have responded with, “^ THIS”. Which is, to be fair, more obnoxious.

Oh yeah, and fuck all that other whiny nonsense. If you don’t like something you once loved it’s understandable you’d bash it with such venom. There’s a fine line between love and hate. People, for whatever reason, are still holding out for Ministry to not suck ass (I don’t understand it either).

Myself personally - I’ve become less critical of the band over years because I just don’t fucking care anymore. I know it’s going to suck. I know I won’t like anything Al is a part of. I know I will cringe at the videos. I know I’ll wanna blow my brains out any time his wife is on youtube luring him onto a tour bus with a bottle of wine, making stupid comments on facebook, or doing pretty much anything at all that I happen to see whether it’s a video, a photograph, or social media related. Ministry is now a joke to me and it’s become something I find joy in making fun of. Anyone who has a problem with that please rant, rave, and preach to me. That’ll help.

If you don’t like Ministry’s current work why not comment and complain? Especially if you used to like Ministry and it’s on a forum where discussion is the main purpose. Complaining about this and eventually not allowing it is what made certain forums so fucking boring and counter productive and was eventually part of their undoing. If people bashing your favorite band on the internet bothers you this much… goddamn.* I’ve seen people praise some of the current stuff too (though they are the minority). Nobody tells them to shut up and rants about how they have no business stating such an opinion because they couldn’t record an album like that one or have some dude on the internet assume that they’ve done nothing of importance with their life.

It’s not about Al owing fans anything, it’s not about whether people are being forced to listen to his shitty music, it’s not about how it’s his “business” to put out an album, it’s very fucking simple: People have opinions. People on the internet don’t like a certain band? Hide yer kids and start stocking up on canned goods pronto. Because this is a first!

Oh, and this is probably the worst “argument” you could make… ever… about anything:

What have you done that’s so great? Let’s hear your album so we can offer opinions.

Complete and total bullshit. Next time you are unhappy with something I want you to remember that you really have no reason or right to be because you are incapable of making something better than that particular thing you are unhappy with, blah blah blah. So, you bought something that you are unsatisfied with? Don’t return it, you no-name loser! Show them how it’s done and make a better product and then do whatever the fuck it is that’s supposed to come after that to prove some point… as if anyone will give a shit.

I don’t need to know how to build a boat to know that I’m sitting on one that’s built like shit and is sinking. Music fans don’t need to be musicians who create epic albums to counter their critiques. With your logic nobody should have an opinion about anything, whether it’s positive or negative, unless they can create something that is equal or better. And this also goes against that whole thing people spew about art being subjective or whatever.
Sorry, but I really hate when people say shit like this because it’s a cop-out and it’s fucking retarded and basically invalidates their entire point.

Sorry for the rant. If you don’t like it try writing a better one! What have you done with your life? I don’t rant for you! I rant for me!

  • [#ffffff]Nobody on this forum bash NIN. You’re all just crybaby screeds. Grow up, etc. Trent owes you NOTHING. It’s HIS BUSINESS. BUSINESS BUSINESS BUSINESS.
He doesn’t need your PERMISSION. Moaning. Crybaby. “Fans”. Whiners. Tribute to a friend. Let’s hear your album!!! YOU MAKE A FRAGILE!!! SUCCESSFUL! OVERCOME THE ODDS! Lance Armstrong! Male enhancment! Supplements! Hot local girls in your area! MELATONIN HELPS WITH SLEEP!!! See why doctors are furious: Click here [/#ffffff]

I read a sentence or two and was bored to tears…how is that for obnoxious?..calm down there,Sparky…

I read a sentence or two and was bored to tears…how is that for obnoxious?..calm down there,Sparky…

It’s a differing opinion and not much longer than the one you so eloquently stated you agreed with.

People don’t like something you do. You should probably take the valium, Sparky.

You got some? Hand em over,Bogart…

if this is Al’s REAL swan song, and if the quality of his book is any indication, maybe this won’t be TOO bad afterall, ignoring the artwork…

I for one won’t be silence.

Love nuMinistry all you like - to me it’s a complete and utter bullshit travesty. It’s now embarrassing to admit I liked this once great band.

It is my opinion the man is now officially pathetic.

“Siiiiick he does da thrash metal metal…going yeah yeah yeah!!!”

Let me know how the new album goes…

You really think that I was hurt because you had a different opinion? You are so cute…stay gold, pony boy…

Nobody is trying to suppress anyone’s opinion…I don’t care what individual opinions are about Ministry…I’m not even defending Ministry…I just think the Al bashing has YES, become boring…everything has been said on the topic…heard it all before…keep bashing, who cares…just my opinion that there is nowhere else to go with it…

Fair enough, i don’t mean to slate you for having an opinion, i just think we should actually hear it before writing it off totally. But if you’ve hated his stuff for the last few years it probably won’t really be that appealing to listen to yet more of his stuff to see if you like it. We’ll agree to disagree on this one, i’m just hoping for an enjoyable album from a band i like. I just don’t see why people are so bitterly angry about his music, but i tend to view bands i loved who are now crap more with amused disappointment rather than full-on fury.

I dislike post 2003 Ministry intensely. So I will express that opinion and express it vehemtly. Other board members are free to comment on that but it will not change the way I feel about Al and that defiant way he has crapped all over this one great band whether it’s “his” band or not.

You got some? Hand em over,Bogart…

Damn Eugene, I didn’t know you liked to party. You wanna stumble or do cartwheels, Winston?

Yeah, to back Gunnar up a bit, after hanging around here for this short time, I’m convinced some of you won’t give anything he does a fair chance. And I guess that’s your right. If you’re that offended that he’s carried on without Paul, then I can’t imagine the new tracks will win you over either.

But, for the others, if you keep an open mind, I really think you’ll be surprised.

For me personally, it’s all just a big, fat case of so what (no pun intended).

I really couldn’t be arsed with the band any more. I think his post Paul career is embarrassing at best and the dude gets seriously more deranged as each year passes. I honestly cannot listen to this newer material and equate it with what once was.

I hated the first two post Paul album, couldn’t be bothered with The Last Sucker and wouldn’t touch Relapse with a ten foot barge pole. I highly doubt this newest offering is going to change how I feel about the whole darned thing.

I think Al is delusional and suffering some kind of brain damage.

Jay Carton’s rant reminds me of Bart & The Comic Book Guy’s immortal argument from the Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie episode (“They’ve given you thousands of hours of entertainment for free! What could they possibly owe you? If anything, you owe them!”). Your heart is in the right place, Jay. Bemoaning other posters’ often insightful and almost always entertaining criticisms of Ministry’s decline is like others here have pointed out, illogical. We are here to discuss, after all. It so happens common discussion revolves around the shortcomings we hear in Al’s recent music.

Whatever “different” means as descriptor is enough for me. I try to find some appreciable quality in even the unanimously hated albums. Even on Relapse there’s glimmers of the melodically talented songwriting Al still has. Not that I’m content with picking at these scraps. I’d like to be pleasantly surprised with this new one even if most signs point to NO.

Didn’t see this covered in the thread, by the way:

http://www.avclub.com/articles/whats-worse-the-title-of-the-new-ministry-album-or,99148/

I didn’t touch The Last Sucker nor Relapse, RGB had a good track or two. But at this point in Al’s career, I listen to his Ministry albums the way I would a RevCo album - a ridiiculously hilarious output kinda fun in it’s own way, but not really expecting anything groundbreaking or innovative, like with the original Ministry.

I have no reason to believe I’ll enjoy it because I haven’t enjoyed anything he’s put out in about 9-10 years. Each album has gotten progressively worse. But I don’t feel like I’m obligated to hate anything he releases. It just so happens that I often do.

I’ll listen to the new album and if I like it then I like it. I would be thrilled to actually enjoy a new Ministry album again. But it would be illogical for me, or anyone who hasn’t enjoyed his last 3-4 albums, to go into this with optimism thinking he’s going to suddenly release something I like.

Can you go into a bit more detail about the record JW/GUNNAR?can’t remember which name

Can you go into a bit more detail about the record JW/GUNNAR?can’t remember which name

Nah, I’m not going to. I only listened to it once and that was about 4 months ago so I don’t even trust my own memory of it. I’ll tell you that ACID CRIPPLE put a review up a while ago and I was pretty much in agreement with a lot of what he said about it.

I don’t want to taint the experience for people. It’s kind of silly to talk too much about something that people can’t even take a listen to themselves.

Plus, I don’t really know what value my opinion would have anyway. I truly and honestly LOVED “Relapse”.

The new album will be out before we know it and then the Prongers can all weigh in (and I can see if it still sounds like I remembered it).

If the album was ready for people to listen to four months ago, why is the release date still over two months away?

Do you see how ripped Al is on that cover? It takes time to get into that kind of shape.
