or was it you (i remember someone mentioning this) that just puts in into your home theatre dvd recorder?
that would be me. then i rip the made dvd to the comp so i can create chapters and menus. I watched what i torrented this afternoon after work. It’s really crisp. I think you guys are gonna be even more stoked when you see it!!!
I also just bought another LD of it for twenty bucks (with shipping) and it’s a brand new version, no scratches and the jacket is in perfect condition. so i may make another torrent with this scratchless LD… but escrow is super close to closing (within the week) so it will be a back burner project.

Ain’t It Dead Yet? is the 1987 Skinny Puppy concert video from the Cleanse Fold and Manipulate tour. It was originally released in late '88 with a generic cover through Nettwerk’s mailorder, then in 1990 in stores with an inferior transfer. This second video is murky and dark compared to the original release.
When it finally came out on DVD it turned out that they simply dubbed it from the 2nd generation tapes instead of the original source material so it was still too dark, and on top of that it was in mono. A second DVD issue fixed some of the audio drop outs, but retains the bad picture quality. Nettwerk is notorious for its bad quality control. Its sad that my almost twenty year video tape still looks better than the DVD. Not to mention the cd of the same concert had a screwed up track listing on the inlay, and it was one hour long track [:/]
so, im a film/video editor… if enough of you are interested, I am willing to run this footage thru some filters in Adobe Premiere Pro… Magic Bullet, Digital Alchemy and a decent deinterlacer should make it comparable to a remastered DVD. I’d also run the sound through an equalizer.
This will be a time consuming activity though so I need to make sure people actually want to see something like this, I wont do it just to keep it on my disc…
I’d download that. How much time are we talking you have to put into it? From start to finish I put in about 3 hours tops. What kinds time are you looking at?

It would not take a long time to set everything up; however, the rendering might take a few… days. Its difficult to predict but considering the aim would be to improve quality through some rather complex filters, my guess would be that the rendering would take ages.
I wont be able to do it in the next 2 weeks anyway since Ill be traveling but I think Ill give it a go in the beginning of August…

this would be delightful! i applaud the effort sir, and await it’s arrival. it warner bros can’t be bothered, this would be the next best thing. just don’t post it on dimeadozen only, hehe.
one thing i was considering was re-ripping my own copy to insert my own motion menus/chapter selection screens and such. would this also be included?
i wish there was more i could to to contribute than just seed.
well, grmp’s version is quite good (seen it only once so far, video quality is good, sound not so much) so if anybody is willing to contribute better sound or an alternative laserdisc (or other format) rip, that would make it a lot easier for me to try to fix the various glitches and what not.
since i wont be working on this before august, if anyone can contribute any source material, that would be great!
@catgoat:
i wont be making any dvd menus for this since i dont watch dvds. if you want to play around with whatever i come up with after applying the filters, you are welcome to do so. in fact, i think making a prongs dvd version of In Case would be a great idea indeed!
also, if anyone has any video material from that era, it might be a cool idea to add that stuff as a bonus to the dvd.

First off thanks for sayng mine is pretty good. I love to hear feedback BUT
What glithces??
I can post the source DVD without the menus and chapter cuts for you if that would make it easier. (although I don’t know if the sound will be any better they are just red and white rca cables) just the straight LD to DVD I’m pretty sure that doesn’t have any glitches…Gltiches though??? whaddya mean? sound? picture?
EVERYBODY ELSE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE GLITCHES AS WELL AND I WILL FOR SURELY POST THE SOURCE DVD. perhaps chaptering it makes it sketchy on some DVD players??

One sound glitch that I remember at the moment is during Jello’s speech.
You are right though, this could well be an issue with my DVD player. I’ll let you know if the problem persists when I import it into Premiere Pro and if it does then indeed, the source DVD might be a better choice.
But as I said earlier, this cant happen before August (in fact, Im leaving in 3 hours).
one thing you could do - if you really wanted to “go there”… would be to rip your CD of it lossless and sync it up to the parts that the CD has - omit the extra tracks of coarse. then you really wouldn’t have to tweak as much.

Yeah, ok, have fun on your trip and when you get back definitely let me know if it’s your dvd player… if it is the dvd I’d actually be willing to send the laser disc itself to you if you have a way to import it. That way you could work with the actual imported source rather than with a dvd copy. I understand if you don’t want to tell me your home addy. you know psychos on the net and all[;)] other than that the best i can do is repost the source dvd from the ld rip. I think i speak for many of us when i say we look forward to you returning home [:)]
