I just won a Laserdisc copy of In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up (Live) So I will have a pretty nice quality transfer (assuming it doesn’t skip) to port over to DVD so I’ll have a torrent up probably within days of me getting this LD. Although Ms. grmpysmrf and I just bought a house so the torrent might be a little late depending on when Escrow closes! but I would imgaine within the month even with moving.

Sounds great! I have the popular DVD rip that’s made the rounds (I assume it’s from the VHS). I’d definitely be up for a potential better-quality version.
When you rip from a LD to a DVD-compatible file, is there some sort of compression involved? Just curious, I’ve never done it myself.

I just hook the Laser disc Player up to my dvd recorder (home unit not computer drive) through the s video slot and normal red/white audio connectors. record it directly to dvd. The I create a menu and what not through the roxio dvd maker program on the computer and then lastly import the dvd copy onto the comp and track it up.

I remember seeing that laserdisc at Camelot Music a long time ago, but didn’t pick it up because I already had the vhs. I still have my Sony laserdisc player somewhere, but not many of the movies anymore.
Some of the titles I had right off hand that I can remember were
The Road Warrior (all time fav)
Time Bandits
Adventures of Baron Munchausen (Criterion)
The Hunger
Tetsuo the Iron Man
Hard Boiled (Criterion)
Ed Wood
I had in all around fifty titles, but sold most years ago on ebay when I needed the money (sigh). I still have though a box set of Hellraiser with the script that was in a cool embossed box with Pinhead’s pins in silver, and a Boxing Helena limited edition signed by the director Jennifer Lynch, David’s daughter.
haw. i have clockwork orange. picked it up while working t a used record store, didn’t have a player, but for 4 bucks it was cools having the artwork to display. plus all the poeple you could freak out when you whipped those things out.
i loved the collection. i remember the robocop had the x rated violence, i was thrilled when it was made available on dvd. and clerks had alternate endings too. good stuff.
i would love a torrent of this, thanks for thinking of all of us. i had made my own vhs-dvd rip long ago, and sent out a few copies. i was proud of the menus and chapters i had made, too. all fancy and moving and such.
then i noticed the software i was using to encode seemed to de sync the audio ever so slightly. only upon further, repeated viewings did i notice the audio gets almost a full second off by the end of the video. shameful. should have done it in bits.
again, i thank you in advance for the great thing you are about to do for us all.
This would ROCK. Thanks in advance grmpy!
I aim to please.

Jesus!
Boxing Helena.
I have never seen this - is it as bad as eveyrone and there dog says?
If it’s the movie where the dude is hacking the limbs off of this chick… and then she grows to love/defend him even though he’s mutilating her… and then he kills her… it’s a pretty fucked up movie!!
I don’t remember the script, dialogue, or anything like that. I just remeber the premise thinking “my God! some dudes will do anything to get with a chick and make her stay!”

Yeah its pretty bad, although the premise is interesting and the actors involved are usually good. Not so here, there’s some pretty wretched dialogue, and Julian Sand’s character is so pathetic you want to repeatedly hit him. Not even Sherilyn Fenn nude makes up for this mess. Its almost worth it though to see the expression on Bill Paxton’s face the first time he sees Helena after Julian Sands ‘operates’ on her. I picked it up because of the Lynch connection, but ehh you’re not missing anything.
but ehh you’re not missing anything.
agreed. i did hear positive things about her new movie “surveillance” though. not sure when it comes out in the us. i think daddy funded that one too.
I Work For Dick Jones!!! [:)]
Classic film too bad Verhoeven hasn’t made anything as good as this since then.
Huuuuuuge Kurtwood Smith fan.
Red Forman. Hell yes. [:)]
This disc is one of the reasons why I bought a Laserdisc player back in the days before DVD. I did try transferring it to DVD, but for some reason everything that I ripped on the DVD recorder played back fine on that unit, but when I tried to copy it to the computer the sound was all out of synch.
I’ve only run into that problem once. fingers crossed that it doesn’t happen this time.

Bill Paxton is ALWAYS worth it.
ever see ‘Near Dark’?
fucking classic.
Really funny in True Lies. Tom Arnold was good in that too…believe it or not.
I thought Tom was good in that as well. I’ve always wondered about the scene where Tom is talking to Arnold S. about how messy a divorce can get… and he says something about his ex-wife taking the ice cube trays out of his freezer. I always wondered if that was a jab as rosanne b., meaning she did that to him.
“She took the ice trays. What kind of a sick bitch takes the ice trays?”
You didn’t leave a bar of soap when you left me.
You didn’t even leave a towel so I could dry my face.
You didn’t even leave a plate for me to eat on.
But you left all my empty beercans all over the place.
