There’s a new Flaming Lips album coming out!!

It’s called EMBRYONIC!!

I’m excited.

You should be too.

You probably won’t be.

It doesn’t sound anything like Jesu or Skinny Puppy nor is it some watered down ‘electro’ or industrial rock garbage like Stayte or KMFDM or whatever the hell it is you foam at the mouth over.

But you should be excited.

This album will destroy!

Currently streaming the entire album over at Colbert Nation.

Out October 13!

I think they got a couple of spins 10 years ago but nothing that really stood out to me. I’m glad you’re excited though.

Not a lot of love here for the Lips…and I’ve never understood why.

Easily one of the ten best bands around right now.

Can’t wait for this new one - love what I’ve heard so far.

I just heard “Embryonic.” Weirdest album they’ve done in years. Excellent, too.

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen was Flaming Lips two summers ago. I’ll be checking this out.

I’m of the impression that Flaming Lips are better live than they are on their albums, ‘Race for the Prize’ being one case in point. They are a great summer festival act (especially on a sunny Sunday evening). But am often underwhelmed by their albums.

I absolutely agree. I rarely listen to their studio stuff but I absolutely love some of the bootlegs I’ve managed to grab over the years. Actually saw them live back in 94 (opening for Tool, of all things)

Considering they are responsible for at least three of the greatest albums ever recorded I will be looking forward to this one with mucho anticipation.

Meh.

Meh.

The Soft Bulletin is on my Top 10 List of all time.

Another Oklahoma band worth noting is Other Lives.

And yet another OK outfit… The Gap Band.

Just heard Embryonic.

I must say I’m impressed. I avoided the Lips for so long because of that Vaseline single they released in the 90’s. A couple of my friends suggested checking them out but I never got around to it until recently when I saw their appearance on the Colbert Report.

But yeah, this album is pretty dope and I’ll definately be giving the rest of the catalog a shot.

I’m in agreement with that vasaline song being a BIG turnoff to the band. Heard it once and it sounded like sound douche whining so i shut it off and out of my mind.

Well duh Peligro. Such a response would be expected of you.

the lips are overrated - and yes I have seen them live.

Uh oh, watch out Stairwell, being nice to me for no reason can get you into some trouble.

It’s ok Velvet - I won’t get in trouble with Peligro, because of my non avant-garde tastes in music I think it’s physically impossible for him to even see my posts.

Flaming Lips are avant garde??

I agree with wempathy on this one, at the very least of the 90s… what a fantastic album. Used to listen to this quite a bit when I worked in an art store, we got lots of strange looks. Not too sure about all the plushies and furries that frequent their shows though.
