…Rey Washam in there, which is cool. It’s really a shame that he is not out there any more (last I heard, which was when he deleted his myspace page, he was starting a new life as a stay-home dad). Too bad, he is one of my favourite rock drummers (Scratch Acid, Rapeman, and Ministry… awesome).
Fuck yeah, Ray was one of the greatest. Not only could he hit those fuckers hard, his rhythms had a certain complexity to them, they seemed to have a sort of a layered, textured sound to them, and also had a “swing” to them. Heard him say in an interview that he was only in Ministry for the money as a hired hand, but thats fine with me as he did a killer job on drums.
… I also feel Barker’s vox are best suited to verses and he should employ a different singer for the chorus but that’s just a side note.
I totally agree, I mean he has an interesting voice, but not really a lot of range, and some of his songs seem to fall apart at the chorus, I feel. Nevertheless, I really dig the new tune and want to hear more.
Is this really what the legal wrangle was all about between the two of them? And why would Al want to have this blocked, as long as it makes him some money?
Looking forward to this documentary, and here’s hoping some vault material gets released along with the film!
[reply][reply]I actually don’t mind his vocals at all.
I’m with you buddy. I don’t mind his vox at all. I think his voice fits right in.

I’m with the both of youse.[/reply]
Yeah the vocals are great, and I usually dont like Barker’s vocals but he pulls it off nicely here. And I love the droneing blasts that close out the song.
I’m off the boards for like two weeks losing my head and I come back to THIS.
Afra, Paul… Give me your addresses and I’ll appear at your respective doorsteps in a schoolgirl outfit to give each you the sexual favor of your choice.
I’d have to agree. Ministry seems like the kind of band that Buzz would go out of his way to make fun of (which usually is like 99% of the music out there but still) Probably he was just being a silly goose and said the first ministry cd was a fav.
[reply]The trailer does mention the Melvins at the end, and I remember them being very influenced by Ministry at some point.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Melvins were NEVER influenced by Ministry at any point whatsoever…Swans, Black Flag and Sabbath maybe…but Ministry…no.
Personally I’ll be very interested to see this.
I’d say it’s a fair bet it won’t be ever coming to a cinema near you soon Smurf.[/reply]
That long video interview that themelvins.net member did with them brought up Ministry. I remember Buzz saying he really liked them at some point, though not so much the recent material. He really praised the Sphinctour album saying the songs live were incredible.
The movie looks cool. It looks like it’s the Filth Pig era, which is really cool (Filth Pig and DSOTS are my favourites). And I saw Rey Washam in there, which is cool. It’s really a shame that he is not out there any more (last I heard, which was when he deleted his myspace page, he was starting a new life as a stay-home dad). Too bad, he is one of my favourite rock drummers (Scratch Acid, Rapeman, and Ministry… awesome).
“Stay at home dad”…wow what a bitch…
I wish this had some ‘DSOTS’ footage. Is there ANYTHING from that era that has surfaced?

There’s a 4 song set from a festival in '99 as a video bootleg… I think the set was longer but no more was recorded or has surfaced… when that guy Dummkopf was here - he had a copy, I can’t remember if I traded for it with him or not… hmm… I don’t think I did in the end. I don’t think any DSOTS songs were played as part of the 4. Bisquitodoom probably has it and could fill in my blanks

I don’t think they were influenced by Ministry but they’re definitely ‘fans’ to some degree.
I have read a Melvins article in Alternative Press long ago where the interviewer is playing tapes of various songs and the Melvins were giving their opinions. They seemed pretty bored with every track they were asked to evaluate, but when the interviewer played Psalm 69 the band perked up and gave it their full endorsement. Fantomas also used to play Psalm 69 over the loudspeaker as a warm up when they were setting up their gear before a gig.
Buzz has also joked in interviews about Paul Barker being recruited as a possible bassist for the Melvins.

don’t knock stay at home dads… ever see the movie MR MOM? it’s all soap operas, strippers, and fighting the home appliances

I’m guessing Artisan News is just pretty shitty and misunderstood what Al said. If FIX is anything to do with 13th Planet, I’m going to be really surprised with the whole free Paul Barker track. Now that Al’s clean I think that it’d be really cool if Flowering Blight and Jourgensen got along again. One of my other favorite bands, Tears For Fears had the nasty breakup where each member wrote songs about the other during their solo careers… But finally things patched up and they released an awesome album.

Holy crap, you know I could really see that working, and working well! Who knows how long this Melvins/Big Business thing will last, and if their is a job opening for being the Melvin’s bassist I don’t think I could think of anyone better than Paul!

I can…Kevin Rutmanis. Melvins were at it’s deadliest with that guy.
As for Big Business…they must be due to depart I imagine. Two albums is quite alot for Melvins to do with a new bass player. Both Melvins and Big Business are fantastic enough without each other so a split will be fine. And god knows Dale Crover doesn’t need another drummer beside him.
By the way…that last Big Business record " Mind The Drift" is absolutely brilliant.
If Paul Barker were to join the Melvins, I personally would think that’d be awesome.

I used to love that feature. AP was a cool magazine back in the '90s.
Also, Barker would be a great fit with The Melvins. Particularly since he and Al already stole so much of their stuff for the Filth Pig album… (I kid)
I just remembered an additional Ministry/Melvins connection - Al did a (fantastic) remix of the Jello Biafra/Melvins track Enchanted Thoughtfist a few years ago.
and hasn’t paul released stuff on ipecac, mike patton’s label, which is also home to the melvins? also they were going to release the live ministry trilogy back in 2000 before warner stepped in and said no.
