Thought I’d get everyone’s input on their favorite covers. Here’s some I can think of, heavy on the Laibach of course…
Laibach - Life Is Life (Opus), Geburt Einer Nation (Queen), Get Back, Two of Us, Across The Universe (Beatles), Sympathy For The Devil (Stones)
Coil - Tainted Love (Soft Cell/Gloria Jones)
The Sundays - Wild Horses (Stones)
Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie)
Sting - Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix)
Elvis Costello - Peace, Love & Understanding (Nick Lowe)
Swans - Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)
Love Spit Love - How Soon Is Now? (Smiths)
This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren (Tim Buckley)
Metallica - The Wait (Killing Joke)
Propaganda - Sorry For Laughing (Josef K)
I didn’t really think I had an answer, but then I saw you list This Mortal Coil. That’s my answer. Blood, Filigree & Shadow, It’ll End in Tears. I can’t get enough of those.
[quote] ministry lay lady lay was a mistake imo.[/reply]
alright usually I let people have their opinion with out with out being overtly mean…but that was just asinine! Lay lady Lay is the greatest cover EVER! man you must be special, ed!

i love the cover, i have no idea why you guys hate it so much.
it transforms a love song into something sinister and i like how the naive melody contrasts with the general bleakness of Filth Pig

Well, I skip half of Filth Pig anyway, but I wouldn’t say I “hate” LLL so much as I just couldn’t bother with it. For me, it’s forgettable and uninteresting. You’re not going to hear much praise from me about most songs on FP.
That’s like a stab in the heart!! How can you say such untruths?[/reply]
He heh, I’m just being harsh for schitzengiggles (I hope you’ve seen Beerfest!). I think my problem with FP is the initial impression I got from that album. It was a major letdown for me at the time. I heard The Fall single, and had completely different expectations of what the album was going to sound like (I seriously thought I was in for a Twitch-Psalm 69 hybrid). I still play the album once in a while. I like almost half the album (Reload, FP, The Fall, BW, sometimes Lava, but the rest of the album just isn’t my thing. Sorry Car RamRod.
i’ll chip in 4 cause i could go on forever
a few not mentioned were
a perfect circle doing ashes to ashes
static-x and burton bell doing burning inside
faith no more doing easy
system of a down doing metro
Here are some that I like, I’ll exclude This Mortal Coil as many others have mentioned it, but all those albums are excellent.
Laibach - Get Back (The Beatles) (I’d really love to see them cover the Little of Lady From Pasadena - I can imagine a guttural Go Granny Go Granny Go Granny Go!!! [:)])
X - Soul Kitchen (Doors)
Bauhaus - Third Uncle (Brian Eno)
Bigod 20 - Like A Prayer (Madonna)
Cocteau Twins - Frosty the Snowman
Mira - While You Sleep ( a slower more melancholy version of the My Bloody Valentine classic)
Ramones - Surfin’ Bird (The Trashmen)
The Cramps - Muleskinner Blues
Man or Astroman? - theme from Mystery Science Theater 3000/ The Jetsons theme
Ministry - Smothered Hope (some band called Skinny Puppy [;)])

why that movie needs to be on Blu-Ray is beyond me BUT I’m glad it is because I Own it. Watching cloris leachman take that suasuage is hilarious! and worth the trade-off that there are not more boobs in the flcik!
Puddle Cruiser-Meh
Super Troopers- Beyond Brilliant
Club Dread - Beyond Stupid (could make it into worst films of all time- although the live action pac-man was kinda funny)
Beerfest-Hysterical
Super troopers 2-well i guess 2010 will tell!

I can feel your pain there friend! The first listen I had of Filth pig left me with the “‘ministry’ tries their hand at death metal?” thought. ALthough I did instantly like “The Fall” and “Lay Lady Lay” I wore those two songs out for a couple of years. but gradually the sample “I never had a life I don’t even know what life is…Have you? Have You? Have You? every day of my life” would get stuck in my head so I started to listen to “Crumbs” more often so I could get all of the lyrics down. and then from there “Filth Pig” Used to stand out to me! but that was it till about 2001. I used to not like DSOTS either (Although 10/10 and Nursing I always liked) and then at 25 I tried a little thing called “The Chronic” for the first time and Oh man I was hooked for about 2 years but In that time I started listening to FP and DSOTS heavily and really DUG into them! now that I don’t smoke anymore I still really dig those albums cause I can still hear what I was hearing when I used to get high! but then one day the weed stopped STUPID ANXIETY ATTACKS!!! although I guess I have to thank them too cause if it wasn’t for them I’d probably be an unmotivated loser without the decent job I have. Although I bet I’d be a mega Jesu Fan!! [:)]
I always heard in high school that weed made you percieve things different and I always though it was Bullshit but would never try it. then when I was older and did try it I went back and listened to all fo teh music that I like with a “green ear” so to speak and I found exactly what people were talking about in high school!. I think my favortite record to smoke too was Linger Ficken’ good! all the way through! Starting at Gila copter and all the way to the title track not skipping one song! The next best album was DSOTS and filth pig (Still skipping BW MIND YOU!)
Too bad the panic showed up before I had a chance to listen to Pink Anvil all messed up. [:(]

I remember at the time it came out lots of people just didn’t understand what it was doing on the album. It seemed like a joke, more of a RevCo thing.
In retrospect, I think it’s clear that the song isn’t actually supposed to be funny at all - it’s a genuine love song from someone going through an ugly divorce, and from that perspective it fits in perfectly with the rest of Filth Pig, Al’s most personal work.
