WOW!!!..So if nobody knows the Halloween greatest tricks album dropped on itunes already…Stand out is the Halloween retro electro remix…which is Al redoing Everyday is Halloween in the real synth pop style…The vocals are redone the music is redone…and in my book the best thing Al aka Ministry has put out since 1986!..This is almost better then the 80’s version!!..WOW…Uncle Al just proved that this is his style of music and he is king of synth pop!!! Uncle Al i would like to hear a whole new album in this style!! 5 out of 5 on this track!!
Link please
Hoooo boy, that sample of the “Purple Haze” cover made my ears real sad.
i’ll wait till i could download it for free
Just wanted to mention that the full album is available for $9.99 as a DRM-free MP3 from Amazon. I bought the “bonus track” electro remix. Definitely new vox by Al. Did not buy the album, though the “Iron Man” cover snippet I listed to sounded surprisingly…good. It sounds like it’s basically a Rantology-style remake of the older songs (other than Khyber Pass I think).
Anyway, the Halloween electro remix VERY closely mimics the original version…think of the differences between the Twitch album version of “The Angel” vs. the one on Twitched with the extra percussion or the 117bpm Halloween remix from the 80s.
This Halloween remix is a tad faster, has a beefier bottom end and has a few more synths & effects. And, of course, there is unsurprisingly more distortion in Al’s vox. The scratches in the break halfway through the song have definitely been redone and sound more ike a cartoony laser gun sound effect than actual vinyl scratching.
It’s enjoyable and was worth a buck but overall is pretty much only for diehard fans of the original WaxTrax era stuff only.
P.S. My favorite version of Halloween was still the demo version posted here 2 years or so ago. That’s the one with the slower tempo, different lyrics and the cool synth part instead of the scratchin’.
That praise is a bit hyperbolic.
Honestly, I think I prefer the 2010 metalized version, which at least is more than just a clone of the original with distorted vox.
I’ll get the rest of the album when the CD version comes out. Yes, I’m still a collector.
And I’m still looking forward to the remix album - the Razed In Black mix is already sounding like the bomb compared to the other two new versions.
EDIT: listening to the previews, sounds like all the Ministry songs are re-records. Weird to hear Al doing JBMHR. Also, it sounds as though Rehab might actually be the stand-out track.
rev;
Is it actually confirmed that a CD version is even coming out? Amazon lists no “other formats”, just MP3. I too am still a collector and prefer CDs so that I may rip/burn whatever I choose into whatever format I see fit. Plus, I like having liner notes to peruse.
Anyone else notice in the previews the intense amount of distortion on Al’s vox in Hotrod? Maybe to cover up the fact that…he can’t keep up with Gibby and/or that his voice is pretty much toast by now?
CD version isn’t out until October 5th.
Looks like it doesn’t include the electro-whatever remix.

In that case I would wait and buy the cd and just download the electro remix separately.
I am not sure I understand the reasoning behind this new business model where “exclusive” mixes are being sold only in a downloadable format. The last FLA album had 2 bonus tracks done this way, and it is rather annoying for those of us who still prefer the physical object. If they are going to go to the trouble of making an actual cd for purchase why not make it worthwhile as opposed to making the download the desirable one?

When cd’s first came out those had bonus trax you couldn’t get on the vinyl. LORAH is a good example with Hizbollah and I Prefer not being on the vinyl(it’s better without those trax if you ask me). Or how bout Godflesh’s Streetcleaner. The last 4 trax were bonus for the cd, with the vinyl ending with Locust Furnace.
What was special about cd’s is what’s becoming special about downloads. I prefer the physical copy myself and I also prefer classic albums from the 70’s on vinyl. Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath just isn’t the same on cd or downloaded.
I see what you mean, but still it seems strange to me that they are putting the incentive on the download at this point and not the cd. Maybe it has something to do with mechanical royalties?
It’s not even an album-only download like they’ve done in the past. You can get it by itself (like I did) and wait for the CD later.
Retro Electro remix is not that exciting. It’s too obvious of a cash-grab for me to buy, plus it just seems like they actually recorded all of those Cover-Up suggestions from a few years back.
The new version of Khyber Pass is decent. And the Iron Man cover was the best tune left off of the Cover Up disc.
Purple Haze was so bad it made me blush.
interested in the halloween versions and not much else. the electro mixsample sounded cool, as did the heavy mix.
Waiting for the CD, so just listening to samples on Amazon. I think the Iron Man cover will be my favourite, sounds like they went a little more electronic than the average Cover Up track. Otherwise not much evolution since the 2008 batch of covers. Purple Haze basically sounds like the Revco version, not surprisingly.
Are all of the old Ministry songs re-recorded? Stigmata sounds kind of different, but it could just be the low-quality speakers on my laptop that I’m not used to hearing it on.
stigmata is probably rantology version (diff vox)

are rehab and stranglehold originals?
Did he lease these songs? is that how he was able to cover everything? I’m thinking specifically about the old schooly ministry tracks.
btw the iron man track does sound pretty damn good BUT i can’t help but hear these lyrics during the riff…
I am the ice cream man,
Running over fat kids in my van.
When they hear my bell,
All the Piss Army kids run like hell.
or of course the old stand by
I am the white man
Runnin over niggers in my stolen van
If you fuck with me
I will hang your from a tree
I am the white man
leader of the klu klux klan
Late,

“Rehab” is based on an Amy Winehouse song , and “Stranglehold” is based on a Ted Nugent song. (Never heard the originals, but I Googled some lyrics and the allegations seem legit.)
