Disturbing music

Hey all. I’m curious as to suggestions for “disturbing” music. I’m thinking along the lines of industrial, if “disturbing” industrial even exists. I am, however, open to any suggestions - I do rather enjoy noise, ambient, and electronic music of all kinds. But don’t limit it to that! Know of any good, creepy accapella acts? Maybe a discordant four-piece, consisting of pierced lesbians playing the cello? Really, I’m up for anything! Childrens rhymes, in that typical sing-song “crapping my pants” kind of tone?
This is ostensibly for fun - however, if I can find that absolutely perfect piece, I may just have to do something with it. I’ve now accumulated over fifty hours of public domain stock footage, and I’m just itching for a project to waste the waking hours of my life on.
Let me know what you guys think. Remember, the word of the day is “disturbing.”

I’m an advocate of the Aesthetic Meat Front. I myself enjoy unsettling music, and I think that’s what people most often ask me politely to turn off.
Also, tracking down A Chud Convention was worth my time.

The lyrics to the Whitehouse album, ‘Cruise’ are pretty intense. Although, personally I wouldn’t label them as ‘disturbing’ - mostly because I’m pretty much desensitized to everything currently out there. I’ve heard it all and quite frankly, how much further can you go than something like Whitehouse? Unless yr listening to the agonising cries of murder/rape victims set to music, it’s hardly gonna be disturbing. Is it?

In context, Burzum is implicitly disturbing, when you think about what he did. But it’s not the music itself that is ‘disturbing’ moreso the connotations associated with the individual.

Personally I find his music hilarious.

There is a band called Caroliner Rainbow who released exclusively on vinyl in the late 80’s early 90’s. That’s some pretty damn creepy stuff right there - but impossible to track down as their music was never really sold in the stores and was only available through mail order.

Check out Miranda Sex Garden. Some of their tracks are very melodic but also quite strange and, I guess, disturbing. Also, there ia a 2 disc set called “A History of Horror” that has soundtrack music for popular horror flicks. Early Pink Floyd (e.g. Piper at the Edge of Dawn, Umaguma) is just downright weird.

I guess you’re planning on a audio/visual piece?

Good luck

Yeah, I love early Floyd, Whitehouse, and Miranda Sex Garden…they’re puuurrrty. Something sonically “off” like that is what I’m after. Yeah, I’m thinking about some sort of audio/video project, though no clear ideas yet. Anyone know of anything similar to the Silent Hill score by Akira Yamaoka? I’m looking for more musically than lyrically disturbing. And who is this Burzum character?

Hmmm Nurse With Wound’s ‘Homotopy to Marie’ release would be perfect for that “creepy lullaby” feel or whatever…

Also check out some early Laibach off of the album REKAPITULACIJA 1980-1984 is very disturbing/creepy oldschool Industrial, before they went Industrial metal. This album is a must have. Really great stuff. In particular there is one track that uses samples from the classic movie ‘Psycho’ and is quite bizarre and disturbing, with eerie Slavic vocals and some bizarre ass music. Other tracks on that album deliver the goods as well.

Other stuff you might consider is Wolf Eyes instrumentals (not their actual songs; they do these horror soundscapes too). Those are pretty eerie and “out there” and would make for some cool visual stuff. Check out in particular some of the instrumentals from ‘Burned Mind’ (the hidden track or the title track) and that first track off of their ‘Dead Hills’ EP.

Early Current 93. Nature Unveiled, Dog’s Blood Rising, all that stuff, all the way up to Christ & the Pale Queen’s Mighty In Sorrow and Imperium. A few of their later releases fall into this category too, like In A Foreign Land In A Foreign Town and I Have A Special Plan For This World.

Scott Walker’s latest album “Drift” is probably the most disturbing thing I’ve ever heard (and that includes early Swans, Whitehouse, Grey Wolves, Nurse With Wound etc.)

I’m also very much into Current 93 and Wolf Eyes. Well, I have a few Wolf Eyes albums, Burned Mind being a favorite, but not all of them yet. Anyway, good suggestions so far, thanks.

I keep hearing good things about The Grey Wolves…

Anyone know a good album to start or where I can even buy their shit for that matter???

(or if anyone wants to send me shit)

I don’t have time for bit torrent and I usually avoid downloading anyway…would rather buy.

einstruzende neubauten normally has some weird shit. not sure if its “disturbing” but you have to admit, even some fans, some of it is literally just a bunch of weird noises made by various tools and objects. they kick ass.

Yeah, I love the music on that album, but whenever he opens his mouth and starts singing I just start laughing. I guess he’s an acquired taste.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned good old Throbbing Gristle or Coil yet. They’re obvious choices but may work in the context of what you’re going for.

You can find some of their stuff here:http://www.hansonrecords.net/catalog.php

they stock this stuff at a record shop here since it’s a local label. guess thats about the only upside of living in ann arbor, mi.

This has always been a particularly interesting topic to me.

Some of the ones I would have named have already been mentioned here… Nurse With Wound, early Current 93, Whitehouse, etc. Don’t forget much of Diamanda Galas’ work, which can send chills up your spine.

I’d like to mention some specific tracks that always disturbed me. Coil’s “The Pope Held Upside Down” is a good one, along with “The Sewage Worker’s Birthday Party”. Current 93’s “Falling Back in Fields of Rape” from Dogs Blood Rising is rather disturbing, and great for scaring the neighbors with. Annie Anxiety has one called “Third Gear Kills” as I recall which is downright creepy, but good luck finding it (it’s never been released on CD). And then there is the song “Rape” by Zos Kia which freaks the living shit out of me, so much so that I find it difficult to listen to at all.

So there’s a few to check out if you can.

Oh, I’m with you on that one.

Meat as percussion?!?! Ye-ow!!

Throbbing Gristle’s ‘Hamburger Lady’ probably takes the cake in my opinion. I suggest that you refrain from eating whilst listening to it. Also check out ‘Very Friendly’ off First Annual Report. Disturbing re-telling of the Hindley/Brady killings that will have you squirming.

Although I also find it hard to be genuinely disturbed by music. It’s much more disturbing just watching how stupid, shallow and ignorant so called ‘normal’ people are in day-to-day life.

Who are Grey Wolves btw?

Lustmord.

Just listen to RIcky Martin, thats some fucked up stuff

Yeah someone tell us more about Grey Wolves. The Wikipedia shit on them is pretty brief…

www.Industrial.org might be your best resource since MP3.com went the way of the dinosaurs. Personally I’m a fan of any Nurse with Wound, TG’s “Mission of Dead Souls”, or if you can find any floating around places, Sleep Chamber. Anything from the late 70s-early 80s is the golden age of disturbing industrial.
