Did Al hate his early work?

[reply]For the record, I think Al’s voice is probably so shot that he couldn’t perform most of the older material decently anymore.

I remember him saying something in 2003 or so about not being able to play Burning Inside because he couldn’t hit that key anymore or somesuch. If that’s the case for Burning Inside, I can’t imagine he’d have much success at 1986 or earlier, especially after another 6 years.[/reply]

but he managed to do Thieves and So What last tour? Granted, he sound absolutely nothing like did then, but if he was able to do those two songs, then he could do Burning Inside. His voice is shot, but hell, he uses a shit-ton of effects anyway. I just think it could’ve been possible, even if he can’t hit the high notes anymore.

he should have let burton cover burning inside… he’s already done it w/the guy from static-x.

and has cleopatra ever actually put out anything worthwhile? It’s the one label that whenever I see a cd of thiers in a persons collection it’s usually at the bottom of the pile.

Yeah, you just gotta filter through endless amounts of tribute albums and unneccessary anthologies to do so.

Rosetta Stone, Big Electric Cat, Children on Stun… GOOD stuff.

Good from Cleopatra: Penal Colony, most of the domestic Leatherstrip releases from the 90’s, a pretty decent Die Krupps remix album, some good Psychic TV rereleases, InSoc’s Don’t Be Afraid, the first couple Kill Switch Klick albums, Gary Numan’s Sacrifice and Exile, some of the Spahn Ranch stuff

The Swining and Praise the Lard by Pig. Athough, Praise the Lard was originally released illegally, but eventually things got sorted out and they re-released Swining in the U.S. after. And they released the first Slick Idiot. They’ve released a few good things overall.

Switchblade Symphony was very good at first, Project Pitchfork, they distributed a lot of good stuff from Zoth Ommog and Hard and even Off Beat briefly…

Could never get into Kill Switch Klick, wanted to as I lived in the area, but it never quite worked for me.

My favorite Cleopatra would be the first Download album. I liked some of their Helios Creed material too. They had a neat space rock sub-label for a while and also re-released a decent FSOL album. I actually liked Electric Hellfire Club at the time, though I’m embarrassed to admit it now.

Wow! I thought they Appealed to everyone. fascist Smash is great. As Much as I adore the Beautiful People I think Marilyn lifted that drum beat directly from Fascist Smash and sped it up.

Don’t forget their Helios Creed/Chrome re-issues, plus Motorhead and Hawkwind. Honestly aside from the fact that they gave cEvin Key and Jack Dangers a home (the latter not too great, anyone heard the latest MBM? PEE-YOOO!), their re-issues are great…
