DEVO

Yeah, it was just back in June that Alan Myers (Drummer) died.

They’re one of those bands that for the last 15 years I’ve been saying, “Damn, I still need to see DEVO live . . .”. Still hasn’t happened, unfortunately.

Really bummed about this. In 4th Grade I was known as “Devo Dave” - they were the first band I was a real fan of. So sad to see Bob#1 pass.

Yeah, in the early 80’s when my neighbors had MTV and I finally got my own radio I’d hear (or see the videos for) “Peak-a-Boo”, “Whip It”, “Are You Experienced?”. Definitely one of the first bands to make an impact on me too. Their goofy weirdness was just something that I think attracted fans and formed an instant affinity with misfits and weirdos whether they were 8 years old or 68.

Yeah, they were a weird type of avant grade that worked regardless of your age and never fell into dull art school bullshit. It was always fun, even when it was mean or strange or fucked up.

Yeah, and it never felt forced. It truly felt honest and natural. I mean, I look at a band like “Mushroomhead” or “Mudvayne” or something and it’s like they sat around trying to come up with something to be weird or shocking.

I never got the sense that Devo TRIED to be anything. They were just always being Devo.

Sucks. Goes without saying, by my avatar, I am a big fan.

Huge fan here as well. This is very sad news :frowning:

When your debut album is produced by Brian Eno…you know you’re awesome.

This.

Eno and Devo - awesome combination.

RIP

I saw Devo about a year ago in Huntington, New York. (Might have been two years, I dunno.) Anyway, they put on an amazing show, far, far better than I expected it to be.

I just watched this concert video for the first time. It’s from the 2010 Lollapalooza and IT IS FREAKING AMAZING!!! It’s as good and exciting as their late 70’s/early 80’s performances . . . if not more so. Absolutely incredible energy and charisma. The show just gets better and better as it goes on. And the sound is absolutely perfect.

Best concert video I’ve seen in a LONG time.

Anyway . . . .

Great band - Even did like the last one…felt very bad for Bob’s family with DEVO setting up a charity to pay for his funeral. I know bands normally don’t make money, but come on…Their studio doesn’t make money from the gazillion soundtracks they do? Anyways, RIP Alan as well - hell of an amazing drummer…Josh Freese is f’ng amazing, though…here’s to Alan and Bob…

Still amazes me that their [url https://www.fandor.com/films/in_the_beginning_was_the_end]“In The Beginning Was The End” short film was done as early as 1976.

Did anyone ever see them when they opened for themselves as “Dove, The Band of Love?” Which was basically the “Christian” version of Devo?

I was a bit too young for that, but these guys were doing that stuff forever! Thank God for this band.

HAHA!!! No, but I feel like my life is incomplete now that I know I haven’t.

Anyway, here’s the link for the concert I’m currently obsessed with (Lollapalooza 2010) and have watched three times in it’s entirety.

Not bad for a bunch of 60 year olds, eh?

So many of my beloved bands are putting out such cool special release vinyl packages lately that I’m getting close to breaking down and buying a record player, haha!

That’s pretty cool. Love the cover art. I’m intersted in seeing the actual track list. Here’s the one I currently have:

If there’s bonus stuff, I might sell it off and upgrade.

Well, at least it’s worth you wasting your time on . . . but I’m guessing you have a much more abundant surplus of that versus money.
