One year for my Mom’s birthday we took her to one of those hibachi joints where they seat you at a U shaped table with other random guests. Well, wouldn’t you know they sat us with Vinnie Paul and a couple of his bro’s. Vinnie looked me right in the eye and could obviously tell that I recognized him. He rolled his eyes like saying hello to fan would be way too much effort, he almost looked disgusted. I recognized his reaction and didn’t look his way again the entire meal.
I didn’t really care. It was Vinnie Paul’s fat ass, not Dime. Never lost any sleep over it.
I will add that our chef tried to toss a shrimp into his mouth and VP wasn’t even close to catching it. Shameful.
My guess is that Vinnie performed an “ocular pat-down” on you and assessed you as a potential risk for asking questions about such deathless Pantera classics as “Metal Magic,” “Projects in the Jungle”, “I Am The Night” etc.
That band must be second only to Ministry in the “can’t own up to ‘pre-badass’ musical past” department (come to think of it we have a whole thread on this issue buried somewhere in the board archives…)
I went to Vinnie Paul’s strip club in Ft Worth one time. I’m no strip club expert or anything, but it was a blast. You can bring your own booze, so I walked in with a 12 pack of Corona on my shoulder and spent the night looking at vag with a bunch of work friends. Good times.

I’ve never been, but he’s proud of that place. Do they play metal? Or is it your typical autotuned rap BS?

I saw Pantera in 94, and after the show ended up a strip club.
At one point, I look over and I see Vinnie and Dime. So I walk over, give them the usual ‘man that was an awesome show’ speech. (keep in mind I’m 18 at the time…). Dime looks at me, and I probably looked all gross and sweaty after the show and says ‘looks like you had an awesome time’, I asked if I could buy them each a beer, and they said of course… when the beer came, I said ‘well have a good night’ and was walking away, and Dime said ‘where are going, stay with us’… so my buddy and I got to hang with them the rest of the night, with all this VIP access and I didn’t see a bill the rest of the evening.
^how dare you use a Its Always Sunny reference and Vinnie Paul in the same argument! You’re giving him way too much credit.
Yeah sorry, just watched that episode with the old lady here…her pervasive interest in “supernatural” programming makes that one of the few shows we can enjoy together.
So you’re saying Vinnie Paul is undeserving of wearing The Duster?

Spectacular evening.
That’s fantastic, i never got to see them, i was supposed to but the show got cancelled even though they were actually in Dublin at the time, but the whole Tattoo The Planet thing with Slayer, Pantera and whoever else got cancelled. I always thought like he seemed like a nice guy from the Vulgar Videos dvd, really funny and just the kind of person it’d be nice to have a few drinks with. The Dimevision dvd was great too. Vinnie Paul does sound like he can be a bit of a disagreeable fellow at time though. Those videos are hilarious though.

Fuckin Awesome! Dime was truly a sweetheart. I remember one time seeing him and saying, “Hey dude” or something articulate like that, and just kept walking. He was all, “that’s it, brother? What are you doing tonight?” I re-approached, but was so caught off guard I can’t remember what I said and we went our separate ways. This was right after “Far Beyond Driven” came out and they were on top of the world (so to speak).
Pre-Cowboys Pantera is honestly the only Pantera music that I can stand . . . unless it’s Phil Anselmo singing Sabbath covers (he’s great at that).
I always hated Pantera, and when I found out about their early embarassments I set about making proper fodder of them . . . but in doing so found that I actually dug it.
Honestly, I never cared for them either. I take a lot of flack from my metal buddies about it.
Too hillbilly-ish for my taste.
And yeah, I can’t stand Anselmo. Guy is the biggest douche in the metal scene. Even hearing him talk in interviews makes my skin crawl.
Yeah, same here to all of that…I get a lot of “how can you listen to metal and not like Pantera” from the dudes, but I’ve never really self-identified as a ‘metalhead’ anyway…more like an all-around lover of intense sound.
I never knew the Pantera fellas owned a strip club, interesting. Not even trying to play “white knight” here, but I’ve never been inside one of those establishments in my life. I’ve had too many encounters outside the clubs with psychotic “exotic” dancers who confessed to absolutely despising their clientele, and so it’s near impossible for me to suspend disbelief and get into that fantasy zone where I can pretend these women actually like me.
I like Phil. I think he’s a rad and sincere dude. And a lot of my friends have worked with him or for him. I just don’t really care for any of his musical output.
And Phil with Pantera . . . it just attracts the worst of the worst. Racist mongoloid retards prone to bad smells, bad taste, bad fashion, bad behaviour . . .
I met the prick from Failure back in the 90s when they were touring Fantastic Planet, it was around the time Numetal was replacing Grunge, anyways Ken Andrews was smoking a fag outside this small bar , they were doing a small bar run while Lolla was going through Texas and I approached him asking him how the lollapalloza tour was going and he just simply looked at me like I was interrupting his smoke and said nothing and walked off, I was like oh said thats what they mean by arrogant rock stars , fking prick, their sound suck that night and he wasnt happy all night.[laugh]
I can definitely say the crowd at Pantera shows sucked. They gave hillbilly’s a bad name. Also, Phil used to terrify me as a kid. Nowadays he’s really down to earth and doing cool things. That said, I saw Superjoint open for Danzig and thought it was awful.
I honestly WISH I could like Phil’s bands. I like Joey (drums) a lot, as well as Phil’s security guy (Christian). And I really do admire Phil and have a great respect and appreciation for him. But none of his music does anything for me.
