I have some of the big comics but can’t seem to find an image…I’ll need to dig them out. Basically twice the size of a regular comic book. Height and width…not thickness.
Oh yeah, and I’ve got that mad magazine with Don King on the cover!
That’s the one I’m printed in! Awesome!

I have a bunch of Sandman/Death and Terminal City comics and compilation books (graphic novels).
I pulled my boxes (yes, there was a second) down tonight and took a peek. There is some awesome stuff in there. I’ll show what was in box#2 later, but here’s a taste of what was in the first one . . . . .
Amazing.

Yeah! I think the most amazing part about it is I honestly had no idea I even had this stuff. I had stumbled across the box of MAD a few months ago (only pulled the stuff out last night). But Box #2 (I’ll probably display a bunch of it this weekend) is awesome too! It has SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #2 as well as the SPIDERMAN ANNUAL #1, a crapload of Spiderman comics from late 70’s/ early 80’s, GROO, MR. Monster.
A bunch of cool stuff. I’m gonna wait until my wife falls asleep tonight and I’ve had a few drinks to do another spread.
I REALLY like the old MAD Magazines because it’s like a time machine to see what was making waves in the pop culture or political scene at any given time.
I have a lot of back issues of Cracked.
Somehow, that just doesn’t seem as cool…

HAHAHA!!! Amongst the MAD’s there was ONE Cracked issue. I had a brief flirtation with it when Don Martin jumped on their roster. As I was laying all my MAD’s on the floor I saw it and was like, “AAAHHHHH, how’d that get in there!!!??”
CRACKED did a total transformation and re-invention. I don’t even know if they do a print magazine anymore. In the early 2000’s or so they reformatted and came back geared more to the 18-45 set and dropped the comic style and became more like MAXIM (or at least like MAXIM was when they were really good) but without the T&A. I think they’re strictly an online publication now and are pretty much a wannabe ONION.
I always thought CRACKED was a cheesy lowrent knockoff anyway, so it doesn’t affect me personally, but I really am still butthurt by quite a few moves that MAD made in the last 15 years or so.
Actually, even though Cracked gets a reputation as a rip-off/also-ran when compared to Mad, (and let’s be honest, it was) they had some serious talent on their roster.
In the classic days there were the likes of [url “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Ward_(comics)”]Bill Ward, [url “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Severin”]John Severin and [url “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Nostrand”]Howard Nostrand. And then in the '80s they stole Don Martin, like you said, but also signed a couple of big shot alternative comics guys in [url “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Bagge”]Peter Bagge and [url “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Clowes”]Daniel Clowes.
So, no shame in the silver metal. I think silver looks cooler than gold anyway.
Peter Bagge and Dan Clowes’ Cracked stuff was super funny too!
I’ll have to look up the rest of them to see if I remember them, but JOHN SEVERIN was awesome! A true artist from the old school!
I’m pretty excited to open up my other box tonight. I only glanced at it so I’m curious to see what’s in it. For those of you who don’t know what GROO is . . . this was Sergio Aragones’ continuing saga of a barbarian warrior hero. He was kind of a bastard Conan type, and was basically a bumbling doofus as I recall.
Groo is awesome.
I’m actually a total and lame comic book nerd. Worked in a comic shop in my teen years, took the required “years off because I’m too cool” and then totally got back in. I pretty much only buy on my iPad these days as all the moving around killed most my desire for hard copies.
These days I buy mostly superhero stuff, though I get a few other things. Skullkickers is a great humor/fantasy title that I suspect some of y’all might like.
I don’t know why this aspect is so mind-blowing to me, but I’m always impressed with getting the old issues with really low cover price. Like a MAD Magazine for 20 cents!!! I just trip out on it. It seems so foreign.
I bought a MAD a few months back to read on a plane flight. It was a regular (not Super Special) and it was $6!!! Outrageous.
Okay, I opened the other box. I was surprised how much stuff fits in these little boxes.
Mr. Monster . . . Spiderman . . . Groo . . . and random stuff . . .
