The Cold Waves Festival is coming to Los Angeles!
Line up to be announced in June, but it will be a different roster than the Chicago show.
I will be at both festivals.

Meh. They should at least go to a place that is cold.

I love this idea. I wasn’t overly impressed with the Chicago lineup, so it’s nice to see that some other acts may get added. Anything that helps the scene is cool with me.
I am very interested in this. Already planning to go see 242/Sevs in September. Good to see this festival succeeding and spreading its geographic wings.

What the fuck is the date? Someone translate this mess of random numbers for me.
If I’m in town and free I would be down for joining my homies. I doubt I’ll give a single shit about any of the bands unless they do a Cocks set or even maybe a Pigface thing, but I don’t mind going just to aggravate Connelly or see if I can get some love from Gerda.

It begins on Thursday, November 9th and ends on Saturday, November 11th, and it’s happening this year.
Yes, November 9, 10 & 11.
And I think we can rule out some bands:
KMFDM
ohGr
Front 242
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Lords of Acid
Psychic TV
Those are all bands that already have separate LA dates booked around that time.
And I highly doubt a Pigface appearance. I believe that Martin said the 25th anniversary show last year was their last. (JLW?) Also, they’ve never booked them for a Chicago show, I doubt they’ll come out for LA.
Some good bets:
Youth Code
3Teeth
High Functioning Flesh
All local LA bands that have played the fest before.
16Volt is a strong possibility and maybe even The Black Queen.
(Not that any of those matter to you, Gunnar, per your new band rule.)
I’d like to see a major get like Skinny Puppy. Meat Beat Manifesto. Front Line Assembly.
Obviously, Al would never allow Ministry to be booked.
But every Cold Waves so far has had some Barker/Connelly combination. Cocks, Cocksure, Lead Into Gold, etc.
Trisomie 21 came out of retirement, and claims they are working on a U.S. Tour. They have some European dates in the fall, but this would be a perfect scenario for them. I would love to see more European bands that are still kicking around - Borghesia, Cassandra Complex, whatever Dirk Dadavo is doing (post-Split Second stuff, I think), and there’s always Nitzer Ebb, or whatever project McCarthy is involved in these days.

I have to be honest, I think it’s the other way around. The promoters would likely never book Al.

Grain of salt because of Martin being Martin, but I thought he said recently that he’s more or less out of the game as far as the playing-and-recording side of music because he fucked up his back

Hopefully this doesn’t fuck up his “selling pieces of fence game” or “charging kids $5000 to be an intern game”.
Rock on, Martin!
I used to hate the guy, but I’ve grown to love his greasiness. Anyone stupid enough to fall for his shit kind of deserves the box of emptiness and regret they get.
Same here. Always loved his musical output but used to have that whole “what a sellout, what a tool” attitude about him as a person, but he’s come so much to resemble a scummy cartoon con artist that it’s kind of endearing. Just gotta picture him wearing too-tight suspenders, leaning back behind a desk sweating profusely and chomping a cigar while straightening his toupee.
Exactly. Dude is like the epitome of cliché grafter or used car salesman.
“Yes, Ma’am! This here Pinto is the finest piece of American craftsmanship you can drive! Just picture yourself cruising down Sunset with the wind in your hair. Warranty? Why would you want to waste money on a warranty? Save that money for something that you’ll actually get some return on! Like a TRUE-COAT for the car. I went ahead and added it in with a special discount because I like your face! Are you a model? Goshdarnit you should be! So, let’s just walk over here and get that silly paperwork outta the way, okay!”

True.

Maybe it is just a generational thing (I’m 39), but the Friday night lineup I would spring for. Saturday’s (other than REVCO) looks like a bore to me.

Meat Beat has been great every time I have seen them…
Not Breathing is still around?
Not Breathing played Cold Waves V last year.
Yeah, I’m pumped for the whole line up. I’m a little surprised that Stabbing Westward headlines over FLA, but I was never a fan. And while I’m not the biggest MC 900ft Jesus fan, I never thought I’d see him live.
So I’m into it. Already got my 2 day passes.
Revolting Cocks . . . yep. I’ll try to make this one.
I don’t give a shit about any of the other bands.
I’ll just look for Gerda while waiting.

Same here. I loved Cubanate in 1996 or so, but I’ve little interest in any of the others.
There’s another festival in California in the fall that’s got NIN, A Perfect Circle, Marilyn Manson, Mastodon and Ozzy.
