'Classic' bands/artists that you don't like

Anyone have anything to say about this? Is there any particular band that the (wannabe) hipster elite heap praise over left, right and centre that you personally can’t stand and CANNOT see what all the fuss is about?

Here’s mine:

The Sex Pistols (dumb, ugly, boring ‘anarchic’ pubrock made by people who can’t play instruments. And they didn’t even ‘start’ punk so what’s the big deal with them ?!!!)

Lou Reed

Beck

The Prodigy

any band featuring Damon from Blur…including Blur

Nine Inch Nails

Husker Du

Joy Division

Echo And The Bunnymen

Pavement

The Clash

Bob fucking Dylan.

[ul][li]No Doubt[/li] [li]anything country![/li][/ul]

I don’t much like Beck - the ‘Odelay’ album is seriously overrated.

The music press fall over themselves heaping praise on acts like Death Cab for Cutie, The White Stripes, The Arcade Fire etc … all of which are acts I cannot stand.

Same goes for Franz Ferdinand who I am truly repulsed by!

Can’t stand the Rolling Stones. Never really been that much into Led Zepplin either…

I dig the Stones but agree regarding Zep. I also never felt the love for Death Cab and could never for the life of me get Modest Mouse.

I also feel the Swans are vastly over-rated. I like the three “White Light” albums but nothing else ever did it for me. Gira’s best lyrics still come across like a childish Leonard Cohen. That said, there’s lots of talented members in the band.

the Misfits - Why is this band so heavily adored by it’s minions? They sound like the Ramones with a Jim Morrison impersonator singing.

the Strokes

Franz Ferdinand

Tool

Pavement

Death Cab for Cutie / The Postal Service

Just about anything released by K records

Sleater-Kinney

Just about anything labeled “punk” is pretty overrated

The Beatles.

Fuck 'em.

Oh yeah, could never get into Tool either despite numerous attempts of friends to convert me. I liked the first Perfect Circle album though.

The Beatles (Stones are way better, IMO)

Elvis Presley (highly overrated tool)

The White Stripes (boring as hell)

Oasis (just flat-out awful)

The Flaming Lips (just never heard anything good)

Blur/Gorillaz (annoying as crap)

Dave Matthews Band (so annoying it hurts)

Nirvana (posthumous hype, Foo Fighters are better)

Fall Out Boy/any popular emo band that somehow plays arenas

1002

i disagree about stones being “better” than beatles. beatles are still awesome.

hey now. old country like patsy cline singing willie’s "crazy"is classic. any oldschool songs about women(s) beating their mates with the fry pan. classic.oldschool country is nothing like the new. it was raw.
can’t beat that. better punk than punk.
otherwise, white stripes–nice outfits. first time i heard them i thought of course AM I BACK IN THE EARLY EIGHTIES. wolfmother. what can you say without laughing. can’t robert plant go after these geniuses for the vocal ripoff? music is not zeppelin, but the vocals…
beatles spawned nirvana. i stand by that.
greatest sixties era band? the kinks.
“i believe that you and me last forever.”

Zepplin

Eric Clapton

The Misfits

That whole Devendra Banhart “freak folk” thing that everyone thinks is good but they’re wrong.

I wasn’t into Beck for a while but the last couple of albums have won me back over

KISS

The Doors

Rolling Stones (Although “Paint It black” and “Wild Horses” are kick ass songs but that ends the list on the stones!)

Elvis

Cream

Jethro Tull

Fleetwood Mac

Moody Blues

Bob Dylan (His songs are ok as long as someone else is covering them)

VAN HALEN (Save for “Eruption”)

More to come later as I think of them.
Late,

yeah i was thinking the same way about the white stripes and several other names.

The Beatles - Started out as a rockabilly/blues inspired blue-collar rock ‘n’ roll band. From there they were picked up by a record label and groomed into the equivalent of a boy-band where they achieved tremendous popular success. After tiring of their godlike boy-band status and experimenting with marijuana and psychedelic drugs they jumped on the psychedelic bandwagon which was very trendy at the time.

Were they as innovative and great as people give them credit for? In my opinion, no. Did they write some good songs? Yes. There was a chemistry that can’t be denied. But like all other “classic” rock acts I can see why people are tired of constantly being told how great they are by the old-fart baby boomers in the media today.

One thing I’m confused about though, are we talking about the much overplayed “classic” rock bands of the 50’s-70’s or are we talking about more current bands that are worshiped by pompous hipsters?

I guess the most overrated band for me would have to be Metallica… I just don’t get what the hype is all about considering there were so many better thrash bands back in the 80s…

I also think Motorhead is a little overrated. Actually, I can see why people like them and I can appreciate their approach; however, I don’t see why it is considered such a big deal.

Sonic Youth. Big ups to their influence and innovation, but I can’t stand the sound of it. Not one of those “kids” knows how to sing.

guess i overlooked the “classic” part of the question while thinking of disturbingly bad current sounds.
yeah, i don’t get metallica either. kiss was funny for a while.grateful dead. what can you say?load them into the same van as… (fill in the blank)
what about tom petty? met him years ago and his whole catalogue puts me to sleep.new doc about him out now. do i care.
another very pint sized rock star.
