‘Immigrant Song’ from III is cool. ‘Kashmir’ is from Physical Graffiti.
Led Zep were never much of a deal with me personally, some cool songs and II and IV are good albums. But I can’t stand Plant, esp. on stage he was quite irritating. Much preferred Sabbath.
Years ago, a friend of mine was reading pornos and…er…‘slappin the salami’ in his parents’ basement one evening when suddenly he thought he heard a noise outside the door. He jerked his pants back up and grabbed something out of the wash basket to ‘wipe’ himself off with. Looking down to see what item he had used he realised that in his haste he had in fact soiled his favourite Led Zep tee shirt - which filled him with disgust and he quickly put it back in the basket, hoping no one would find out.
Next day he went to pick up his grandma from her house and when they arrived back home, his little sister came rushing out of the front door wearing - yep, you guessed it - his favourite Led Zep tee shirt. Before he could stop her she threw her arms around her grandma giving her a massive bearhug and pressed the soiled part of the shirt against her grandma’s blouse in the process.
He looked at his sister in horror and asked: Where did you get that shirt fer heaven’s sake!! To which she replied: It was in the wash basket. All my tee shirts were dirty so I grabbed this one. It looked clean but Chugs - their dog - had drooled on it a bit I think so I wiped it off.
On the count of three…EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW!!!

Whaaaaat.
That’s like the time I accidentally witnessed a friend of mine punchin’ the clown to the cover of a Bee Gees CD.
A college friend of mine said this happened to him once. I hope it didn’t. Supposedly he was pulling the balls off himself one evening in his room with his eyes closed and his headphones on. When he was finished he woke up and saw a tray with tea and biscuits on his drawer at the end of the room. While he was jerking off his ma had come in with the tea and biscuits saw him and left the tray and backed out without further mention. How’s that for awkward?
This thread could descend very fast. Maybe carmangary is right and it’s best to get the fuck out of here quick.
Does Houses and III have any songs that are well known? is Kashmir on one of those??
III is my fave LZ album, hands down. It was the first album they recorded in a thoughtful, measured way. It really reflects their personalites and influences better than any LZ album. The first one was hurried and II was recorded on the road in a bunch of different studios. Folk, blues, psychedelia…it has it all. “Out on the Tiles” is a great cut.
“Houses” is probably my second favorite. Huge guitar. Check out “The Ocean”. We (minus AJ) used to play “Dancing Days” during soundcheck during the WS tour.
Kashmir, I think, is on “Physical Graffiti” with is kind of a disjointed wreck. It would have made a great single album, problem is…it’s a double.
Well, you know there’s a reason Physical Grappetti is a double right? it was the 8 ‘new’ cuts recorded that year and all the outtakes/unreleased (including Houses of the Holy - recorded when they did that LP, and Bron-yr-Stomp originally recorded for III) from the previous lps.
[reply]Dude Looks Like A Lady is a song I can’t stand. Just even the zight of them is repulsive. Only good thing to ever come out of Tyler was Liv Tyler.
Change that to Mia Tyler and I am in agreement.[/reply]

Isn’t that the big one?[/reply]
I sense a resurrection of BBW here… I’ll put on the kettle.

Also, it has ‘Friends’ on it - which is hands down their most overlooked gem.

Find Led Zeppelin a bit too bluesey for my liking and Led Zeppelin II sounds like it was recorded in a weekend - although it does contain Ramble On which is killer.

Yeah, it does veer wildly out of control towards the end of the second disk. Ten Years Gone is one of my faves.
Presence and In Through The Out Door are both hideously under rated in my opinion.
never been caught spankin’ it! except by my wife but i don’t care about that cause she already knows i do. but no devastating life altering situations over the withdrawals from the spank bank! Always was nice and alone growing up!!

I lived on a ship for 4 yrs. People didn’t need to get caught spanking. They bragged about it. The electrician’s mates were crazy about it. Always talking about the best time to do it (for example when the ship is doing drills and making lots of noise). It was nuts.
It was nuts.
joke? intentional or nut? err I mean not!

Does anybody here actually agree with Rolling Stone’s (and other classic rock magazines) definition of ‘Top 100 Albums Of All Time’ ??
It’s usually the same top 10 enties over and over in these lists: Beatles ‘Sgt Pepper’, Beatles ‘Revolver’, Beach Boys ‘Pet Sounds’, Rolling Stones ‘Exile On Main St’, Hendrix ‘Are You Experienced?’, Dylan’s ‘Blonde On Blonde’ etc etc This top 10 rarely changes from list to list does it?
Are those albums listed REALLY that good?!? I mean REALLY??
Think about it.
p.s the best ‘spanking’ music is Merzbow. I speak from experience.

add in nirvana nevermind, radiohead ok computer, metallica metallica, and guns n roses first cd and you’ve got basically a good point… it could be spin, or rolling stone or whichever magazine… granted if it was like Q or some overseas magazine you’d probably see oasis and queen on there…
I think the similarity just shows the similar age groups of the writers of those magazines. being a teen in the 90’s, i’m sure the general consenses of the best cds of all time would be more similar to people in my demographic then somebody from the 80s, 70s, etc.
also those lists aren’t really to be taken seriously. I look at them more as a way of filling space when they run out of ideas for articles. UNless it’s like what decible magazine does (a metal mag) where they focus on 1 historic album and goes into a several page article detailing the story behind making the particluar album, which in general, even if I don’t like the cd it’s still a good read
that rag has zero credibilty. You can have a classic by zeppelin, dylan, or hell if Pink Floyd reunited with waters and released an album, it will still somehow fall short to Kanye and all of the shitty mtv “rap”.
Hell, hearing that Plant and Krauss got Album of the Year… I almost pissed myself in shock. Talented people won a grammy! Particularly album of the year. Hell froze that night imo.

agreed. kanye’s only bearable song seems to be the one where he jacked a daft punk beat. Plant, while he may not be many people’s cup of tea, deserves mad props for turning down crazy money for a zep reunion to do what he feels is artistically more worth his while (the project with krauss)
