Chris Connelly - Shipwreck

Recently we bought into Apple Music and to cut a long story short I have been revisiting records I loved as a young adult in the early 90s and this one caught me by surprise. As soon as the songs started I immediately remembered them…but what stuck out most was the quality of this record.

Chris Connelly’s Shipwreck has aged very well indeed.

Great album…

Really great album. Probably on my Desert Island Top 10.

Surprised nobody here mentioned the Connelly fronted ‘Sons of the Silent Age’ cancer benefit show at METRO about a week or so ago.

Ava Cherry joined the band for about 4 songs and looked and sounded fab. But the real treat was when Sinéad O’Connor took center stage to sing 'Life on Mars?".

Here’s the finale…“Lazarus” from Black Star.

I wonder if people just assumed Sinead O Connor was a cancer patient. I also wonder if they asked for their donations back after she opened her mouth.

Ah. Taking the piss out of someone who donated their time and talent to help raise money for a cancer benefit. You’re hilarious.

I listened to Sinead O Connor once and GOT cancer from it, so I have a right to be upset.

and yet you still look totally fab…

I think Sinead O’Connor is awesome. I’d probably marry her if it weren’t for the chest tattoo.

Wow! I had no idea.
That would kind of put a damper on things if every time you tried to nuzzle up into the funzone you had Jesus mad doggin’ you.

Yeah, but she does [url http://www.thesuperficial.com/sinead-oconnor-horny-blog-anal-sex-08-2011]butt stuff so that should make up for it.

She DEFINITELY doesn’t like bro food…

Sinead rules.

She has the best live vocal I’ve ever heard and on top of getting to hear her amazing vocals live it was backed by the deadliest and most powerful rhythm section on the planet who happen to be my favourite musicians on the planet…Sly & Robbie!!!

Sinead is also great pals with Adrian Sherwood…that gives her more cool points. Sherwood is actually the reason I got to see Sinead O’Connor live…Sherwood introduced Sinead to Sly & Robbie. That lead to her asking Sly & Robbie years later to produce her Throw Down Your Arms set and naturally add their heavy heavy Jamaican rhythm section over her hand picked roots covers by the likes of Burning Spear, Lee Perry, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and a few classics. I still get excited thinking about that record and seeing them together perform. I will be listening to Throw Down Your Arms tonight.

The night I saw Sinead perform with Sly & Robbie in 2005 over in Glasgow during their Throw Down Your Arms tour was one I’ll never forget. Sinead, Sly, Robbie and all the other musicians and backing singers were all just so happy to be playing together. You knew straight off the bat you were witnessing something super special. That night Sinead, Sly & Robbie performed all the cuts from Throw Down Your Arms along with numerous others…the others that really stood out was the Johnny Clarke killers None Shall Escape The Judgement and Move Up Rastaman and of course Peter Tosh’s Steppin Razor! It was absolutely mind blowing hearing all those super deep roots cuts performed with Sinead’s incredibly angelic vocal over that genuine heavy as all hell Riddim Twins Jamaican sonic boom. Easily in the top 3 greatest live experiences I’ve ever had.

Like most people I was only familiar of Sinead through her multi million selling Prince cover. I buy anything Sly & Robbie put out so naturally I am very thankful they worked with Sinead as it lead to be of my great live musical experiences.

I love Sinead and I could talk for hours about how wonderful her gift is and how lucky I was to have it shared with me one night while at the same time seeing my all-time musical heroes perform with her. If something is the very best as it is…simply add Sly & Robbie and it will melt minds!!!

That’s my hero worship over for the night guys. Thanks for talking about Sinead…it lead to me reliving a wonderful musical experience and I will bust out headphones and Throw Down Your Arms later tonight so thanks for causing that too guys!

It isn’t live but here’s the next best thang…Sinead performing some deep roots classics with the legendary Riddim Twins on drums, bass and production!!!

I know pretty much nothing about her, but if I could place a bet in Vegas on it, I’d wager a billion dollars that she’s a Vegan.

If I had a billion dollars I’d bet it all that THIS was located somewhere in your cd collection…

She’s had quite a few bizarre Facebook outbursts in the last 6 months or so, she’s got some major issues and seems convinced her family, her kids and everyone is out to ruin her. Stuff like begging her fans to get her a good psychiatrist, asking them to call her an ambulance and beseeching the fans to offer her a friendly place to live. Pretty sad stuff [:(]

I hope she’s doing okay. I’d seen a few mentions of her getting batty on Twitter and FB and such, but I thought it was mostly self-righteous noodling about how women shouldn’t use their sex appeal to get ahead in the music world and that sort of stuff. If she’s legit having trouble I hope she gets the help she needs.

I know the band only by name, sorry.
Is that an Australian pressing or something?

That show was fucking awesome. Second time that I’ve seen Sons of the Silent Age. They killed it both times. I love that they start with Station to Staion, which is a total beast of a song. Lazarus was a real pleasant surprise. I was bowled over when they brought Sinead out. Still has a killer voice.

just gotta say Sinead has great fucking mic technique.
