Candyman Collapse is probably my favorite tune from Chris.
I adore this album. It is perfect in every sense. The title track might be my favorite CC song of all time. This is the album where I realized how amazing of a lyricist CC is. He really came into his own on this album and shed some of the Bowie/Walker adoration that consumed his first two albums. This would be a desert island album for me too. No pun intended.
Yep, it’s my favorite Connelly album, really good. I haven’t liked any of his stuff after quite as much and the previous two albums were like the facts of life (you had to take the good and take the bad).
[reply]If I had a billion dollars I’d bet it all that THIS was located somewhere in your cd collection…
I know the band only by name, sorry.
Is that an Australian pressing or something?[/reply]
He’s gone for months and he shows back up with that shitty insult? Fucking lazy ass effort.
I hope she’s doing okay. I’d seen a few mentions of her getting batty on Twitter and FB and such, but I thought it was mostly self-righteous noodling about how women shouldn’t use their sex appeal to get ahead in the music world and that sort of stuff. If she’s legit having trouble I hope she gets the help she needs.
I believe I read somewhere recently that she had made an attempt on her life. I know she’s struggled with depression in the past and I guess everything that came with fame had an impact.
She is obviously incredibly talented but it still must’ve been a huge shock to the system when one song makes you a household name. That Prince song made her millions and a celebrity…she is a genuine artist and up until that point she only just made a living…and then BOOM! Everyone knows you because of that one song.
As mentioned I knew her from that one song and although Sly & Robbie have recorded with artistic heavyweights like Bob Dylan, Ian Dury, Rolling Stones etc they have also recorded with artists of a lesser calibre such as Britney Spears and Robbie Williams…as a result I went into the album Throw Down Your Arms not expecting too much as I knew how incredible the original songs were and I knew her actual backing music was going to be killer as it was Sly & Robbie. I ended up loving the album to bits…there was something so off-kilter and wild about such a beautiful vocal in an Irish accent conveying a deep Rastafarian message on top of a genuine rock solid heavy as hell Jamaican Dub!
So when it came to a chance of seeing them perform it together live I snapped up the tickets.
When she came out and started singing with Sly & Robbie I saw a transformation from the person I saw on tv singing that hit song in 1987 to an absolute goddess of roots music. She turned into a super cute pixie who was a fragile child at heart and was as happy as could be. It was like she had reached the pinnacle of artistic awesomeness and realised it and relished it that night. It was pure love. I’ll never forget that huge beaming smile of hers that night which in turn even made Robbie Shakespeare and all of Glasgow smile. And believe me…Robbie NEVER smiles!
I hope Sinead takes care of herself and finds peace & happiness.

It’s one of his better efforts for sure but nothing will top Blonde Exodus for me…I feel like that’s where everything he was trying to do came together…
What’s the Prince song? Only songs I can think of are “Nothing Compares To You” and “Emperor’s New Clothes”, but I’m not a Prince expert either, so I suppose it’s possible one of those is a cover I was unaware of as well.
“Nothing Compares 2 You” was written for her by Prince.

THANKS!!!
Her track on the new Blind Willie Johnson tribute is pretty damn good.
I’m a big fan of Connelley’s solo stuff, and I love Shipwreck. A few years ago I was in Chicago (right when Pentland Firth Howl came out) and he did a solo show in a little bar where he played a few tracks from Shipwreck, including a version of the title track with just guitar and voice, which surprised me because it’s such a full band song, but it was fantastic solo.

Surprised nobody here mentioned the Connelly fronted ‘Sons of the Silent Age’ cancer benefit show at METRO about a week or so ago.
Ava Cherry joined the band for about 4 songs and looked and sounded fab. But the real treat was when Sinéad O’Connor took center stage to sing 'Life on Mars?".
That show was fucking awesome. Second time that I’ve seen Sons of the Silent Age. They killed it both times. I love that they start with Station to Staion, which is a total beast of a song. Lazarus was a real pleasant surprise. I was bowled over when they brought Sinead out. Still has a killer voice.[/reply]
As i read your comment i thought “I’ve never heard Sons of the Silent Age”, then i switched the tv over to the next channel and David Bowie was on, playing that track. What a bizarre coincidence [:)]
Haha I love it when stuff like that happens.
I like spooky thangs & happenangs…
