Chicago and Melbourne

Hey, just curious, but it seems like I’ve noticed something here at prongs… a dissproportianate number of people who pose (edit: ha ha, I meant to say “post”, perhaps “pose” was a freudian slip!) here either:

a) live or have lived for a significant amount of time in Chicago, IL

or

b) live or have lived for a significant amount of time in Australia

I grew up in the cornfields outside of Chicago and have spent a considerable amount of time there. How many others have lived in the Chicago area for a significant amount of time? As I recall Afra and Chris C. (for sure), Tenohtwo, Carmangary and some others on this board that actually worked with Al at some point…

And then Peligro and Evildildo are Aussies for sure, but I could have sworn I’ve heard Toot, Blue Velvet and several others talk from experience about Australia…

Obviously Chicago should be a hotbed of fans due to being the homebase of Wax Trax! Ministry, Revolting Cocks etc, but why Australia? Has anyone else noticed this or am I trippin?

P.S. - Where the fuck is Afra BTW? Hasn’t posted in ages!

Oh shit yeah… I know Peligro, RedVelv and myself are from the exact same city in Australia.

I recall Toot and mick were expat Aussies, and Olsen and Amlux live in Australia… I think Olsen may be from the same city I’m from as well.

Seriously, that trips the fuck out of me. Especially since Australia isn’t exactly a hotbed for Ministry/Revco fans…

if this was a Nickleback forum, however… it would all make sense.

LOL (shit, I almost never use that, but I really did laugh (or perhaps giggle out loud after reading dildo’s response!)

Naw, I think Mick is as Irish as they come (but what do I know, I only know the guy from prongs postings!) I have Scotts-Irish in me blood, which makes me very proud!!!

But seriously we know many are from Australia, and the Chicagoans haven’t woken up yet (I’m a chronic insomniac, me being the exception)

It will be truly interesting how this census turns out, providing people are honest!

I am indeed A’strain. From Melbun.

From Melbourne, Australia.

Live in Brighton, just off Beach Rd. Where all the mega rich snobby dickheads live. Grrrrrr. Our next door neighbours house just sold for 4.5 million. They also have a yacht worth over 2 million. Do you know how many starving kids that could feed…

Evil was right - not exactly swimming with Ministry fans down here. The closest you’ll get is maybe at a party or something and you’re wearing a Ministry t-shirt and someone will say: oh, I remember those guys. I had the album with the hotrod song on it. Yeah that was good.

I remember a few years ago wearing a Filth Pig t-shirt on a tram in the city and two old crusty ex '80s punks came up to me and started yakking about industrial music and how they saw Ministry at the Palace in '95 and how it was totally insane. They were totally scary looking guys.

I have Aussie and Kiwi family but I’ve no Oceania in me myself. I think Strairwell might be Aussie too.

One thing though is we’ve all got African ancestry [;)]

Few Europeans too.

I’m a Chicagoan born & bred and after living in a few other US cities am back in The Chi.

If I won the lottery tomorrow, I’d never leave Chicago. I might have a cabin up in Wisconsin, or a winter getaway in New Orleans…but Chicago is where I’ll stay.

got nothin’ to say except yeah. that’s the chicago i grew up with.

Yeah I be Aussie. Same place as everyone else, lol, Melbourne.

It’s weird…

On this forum you’re either from Chicago or Melbourne.

Odd.

Maybe I’ll move to Tasmania.

Go on Peligro. You’ll fit right in.

Thats right! Sometimes on annoying government documents when they ask you to provide your race (which they usually say is optional) I choose “African American” because hey, if Africa truly is the cradle of humanity than all Americans are African Americans!

Who lives in Tazmania, other than those rodents who seem to have really bad attitudes?

Amen brother. Despite all the crime, corruption and bad weather Chicago is the best city in the U.S.! (IMO).

Peligro, do you say that because you have family there… gg-gg-gget it, h-h-huu-hhhuuhh?!! [;)]

B-b–bb-eee m-my -dd-ddaa-ddaddyy… [:P]

Lol at RedVelv’s comment.

Inbreds. I shit you not.

But then again, Adelaide’s got that lovely father-daughter couple, the Deaves’, and Victoria recently had it’s own case, non-consensual though.

I’m from New Zealand although I lived in Sydney for 10yrs and Cairns for 2.

I’ve been living in Edinburgh, Scotland for the last 8yrs.

I was born in Wellington, NZ. When I was 4 we moved up to Auckland. When I was 10 we moved over to Sydney. When I was 20 I moved back to Auckland. When I was 22 I moved to Cairns. And lastly when I was 25 I moved to Edinburgh.

New Zealand was a beautiful country to grow up in and I have many fond memories.

I LOVED Sydney. Many many great times and an awesome city to be a teen in.

Cairns is probably the most beautiful place on the planet with the Great Barrier Reef on one side and it’s world herritage rainforest on the other. Everyone should make a point of visiting this part of the world at least once in their life time.

Only problem in Cairns for me perdsonally was the humidity and the shitty music scene. They get virtually no decent bands touring let alone DJ’s or producers. What they do have is shitty pubs playing shitty chart music. Their “underground” dance music scene is basically 99.99% bangin Trance…and I fucking HATE Trance with a passion. No cool record stores too.

Going from Cairns to Edinburgh was a breath of fresh air as I got awesome record stores, awesome nightclubs, awesome bands and DJ’s playing all the time and weather that I much prefer (coming from NZ I like miserable weather?!).

Edinburgh is easily the coolest city I’ve lived in. Absolutely love this town. not too big and not too small and always something happening. I can go clubbing on a Tuesday night at certain clubs and it’s as if it’s a Saturday night as it’s busy and going off like a bag of prawns. Also Edinburgh has the Fringe Festival for the whole of August every year…this is the biggest art festival in the world and the world descends upon Edinburgh…everything from bands and DJ’s to stand up comics and theatre and a whole lot more. Edinburgh is also a very pretty city and has an amazing history. I love friends and family visiting…you get a real buzz showing them all the sites of Edinburgh.

I can’t see myself living in Oz or NZ again such is my love for Scotland.

I’ve only been to Edinburgh for a weekend, but it was awesome. And I was lucky enough to have a clear, sunny day which really shows off how beautiful the city is.
