Calling it a day

here’s something to get people talking . Ok we all want bands/singers to pack it in and quit. But i’m not talking about like the obvious, Justin Timberlake etc. I mean, what are some bands that you all like that were once your favs but now you just wish would go away and stop soiling their name?

I’ve been saying this bands name alot lately:
Aerosmith!
shoulda hung it up after Pump!

I’m REALLY torn between wanting Slick Idiot to not continue without Guenter, but DAMN IT, I’m interested anyway.

ummm… Ministry

KMFDM.

nin…but I guess Trent is think’in the same.

Manson
Korn
Jourgensen, in general
Months ago I would’ve said KMFDM, but the last album is actually good, so i’m holding back on that one. Could’ve been a fluke though…

I’m sure there’s more, but nothing else is coming to mind.

Guenter left?
any idea why?

I’m hoping since lucia had the kid that maybe sascha will bring cherl wilson (or whoever it was on the blitz cd) on tour. then maybe he’ll start doing more collaborations instead of the set band thing on future releases

It was Wilson. Kinda wish he’s work with Dorona Alberti again though. She’s my favorite of female singers for the band. And i’m under the impression that they already did have the kid, although I could be wrong. I know they’re touring soon, so i’d imagine lucia touring with. And I think if Sascha continues to collaborate with more outsiders or even Skold, the music will probably get better. Sascha’s been in complete denial about his work when working as a full-band. It was mainly him this time around with some output by others (skold, jules and lucia). I think he should go back to using the revolving door.

Excellent thread topic.

I would say -

KISS (should have quit around 1984)

Faith No More (I hear they are reforming - they shouldn’t be. it was good while it lasted. reform Mr Bungle instead.)

Killing Joke (have been way too inconsistent since about 1988, ranging from reasonably good to excrutiating.)

Al Jourgenson (in general. the last five years have been embarrasing)

Sepultura (Derek who?)

Hemet

Black Sabbath (see Kiss)

Darkthrone (just aren’t black enough these days)

Motorhead (like…enough is enough. there are only so many times you can rehash your first album.)

Not sure. All I know is they’re touring without him (without live guitar, actually…) and Esch is making plans to record without him, if I’m correct in assuming so.

Pisses me off. You can’t have Frankenstein without Igor.

Ozzy.
Sorry dude, Dio and the boys are kicking your clownish ass.

No way! Have you seen any clips from his variety show? It’s the most metal thing ever, and not at all a complete embarrassment. I know some people might poo-poo and say that his reality show destroyed his credibility, but this family variety show completely redeems him and makes him more sinister than a thousand Burzums.

Sepultura (Derek who?)

Hemet

do you mean helmet?
and isn’t igor out of sepultura now too?
so it’s like the equivalent of van halen being around but without eddie or alex in the band.

Yeah but Sepultura aren’t making really really bad music.

Unlike Ozzy.

And Beck.

last summer… Probably why there was no tour last year

I agree on Ozzy. I was never really a fan of his or sabbath though. But all he’s doing now is just cashing in on the past…sounds familiar.

Someone said Beck, and I strongly disagree with that. Sea Change was and still is an amazing album. Granted, his newer material doesn’t quite stand up like the older material, but it’s so different, that they really formed lives of their own.

part of me also wants to say the bad seeds since mick harvey left. Kinda weird knowing that there’s only one founding member remaining while the others (most recently) have left. No more blixa, and no more mick. Towards the end Blixa didn’t really seem to do much, but Mick was the backbone from beginning to end in the songwriting, so it’s weird and kind of leaves me curious to see how the songwriting will go in the future without him. It’s just weird to see the bad seeds without mick harvey going on.

sabbath. ministry. AEROSMITH. pearl spam, jane’s affliction, chris cornell and all related.
TKK . i would’ve said seal, but i only know all the players, not the music.
what you have to understand is that all of these guys are shooting away in the dark, because the industry is so pathetic at this point. we will see lots more bands reviving their touring options and that will generate a huge list of people to go away. please.

Metallica - Hasn’t been the same since Justice
Type O Negative - WCD was the last good album
Megadeth - Youthanasia was their last real album
NIN - Should’ve stopped with Ghosts/Year Zero
Manson - Should’ve called it quits with Mechanical Animals
Green Day - Should’ve quit after Insomniac

Man… I could make this list go forever. There’s a LOT of bands out there that should have hung it up long ago.
