C. Clouser (nin) funny letter

Musicians are a funny lot in the first place, some “ego-maniacs with inferiority complexes” as they say…

Buy the ticket, take the ride.
I sympathize with people like Manson, really. Most addicts are just people with a lust for life- then give them money and fame and it’s just par for the course. Guess it’s best to iron out all your addictions and issues before starting a career…can’t never take any of that shit back.

Nice shorts, Paul.

[laugh] Bad-ass trend setters is what I’d call them.

Heres something that’s new on the net from nin it’s an actual 4 part interview from 1992 press for broken which was rare. They had just finished editing ‘wish’ video (p.c.-coil/tg) a few hrs before, also, talk about thr fla/nin feude and ministry etc. chris vrenna and j. woolley are present also:

Yeah, watched all of those this morning, thanks for sharing! Am I the only one who found the veejay hostess strangely alluring? I’d totally do her.

yeah totally reminded me of the 90’s and my fav. nin record. She was all on trent’s nut’s

-Trent makes fun of the name “Toad The Wet Sprocket,” but that actually came from a Monty Python skit.

-He was right about FLA. Their songs do continue to the point of boredom.

-Who said NIN was anti-women?

[reply]Never been able to figure out who the guy on the top right is. But that’s always been a funny pic. Al, being Al. Chris looks insane. Paul looks like they just did something terrible. Saccia just going with it. And Trent, the kid who tagged along.

That would be Michael Balch from Front Line Assembly I think.

Here’s a similar picture from an old Alternative Press. I hate that it got ripped.

Paul, Trent (before the head shaving), Phildo, Jeff Ward, Chris, Al, and Michael (With Manson shirt).[/reply]

I pulled this out of an old box a few months ago; brilliant writing. What the hell happened to AP? Granted, i bought this issue 20 years ago, but damn they suck now (Emo Emo Emo)!

I love thread necromancy and feel like doing it again.

kinda makes you think of those comments manson made about podboy having lots of dirt on trent and how he got dicked over by him but took the high road and never said a word…

To be fair, most of that dirt probably isn’t very exciting since they both come off as emo, nerdy, and borderline shut-ins. Most it probably involves the two of them playing video games together until the wee hours of the morning, making late night fast food runs, and crying hysterically while holding each other.

I think you mean ‘Antichrist Superstar’ but yeah it‘s pretty obvious Trent is keeping the masters locked up which is fucked in my opinion. He already made a lot of $ off Manson and is still collecting royalties he should just let it go.

Eh, I dunno. It’s possible that Trent actually did lose the masters, though I dunno whether it was from active malice or apathy and stupidity.

It could have very well been the latter because it sounds like Nothing Records was being run like a three-ring circus after Trent became a near complete shut-in and spent years taking vast quantities of drugs, playing video games, and probably crying over having lost Podboy by being a huge douche while listening to “Alone Again (Naturally).”

He apparently didn’t even notice his manager stealing vast amounts of money from him, so…

I don’t follow or like NIN but that letter was AWESOME!!!

That’s one hilarious mental image.

Could be accurate, though: around the time of “The Fragile”, Trent said in an interview that he missed Chris as a friend a lot, which is still one of the nicest things he’s ever said about an ex-member.

He usually bitches about them incessantly (Richard Patrick and Robin Finck, for instance) or ignores them completely (everyone else, pretty much).

The letter was hard to read, but Charlie is a cool guy nonetheless. Love his work.

It just seem like another case of behind the scenes politics and button pushing. Everyone gets in fights and experiences drama from time to time, but somehow people let that define celebrities, as if they’re supposed to above all of that.

For example, as much as I love Al, it is funny how he used to change band members like underpants. No one really speaks highly of him, but you can tell he’s dedicated to his craft and has a low bullshit tolerance. He’s had some regular members for quite some time, but they seem to be yes-men who don’t really challenge him or bring new ideas to the table.

I got to hang out with Trent for a bit and he is quite different from most rock stars. He’s very shy, well mannered and well spoken. By far the nicest celebrity I’ve met. He showed a lot of appreciation to the fans that were there that day, and gave out handshakes and hugs.

I guess what I’m getting at is there are two sides to people. Music is his job and his passion. If something prevents you from getting a job done correctly, it’s only human to be pissed off about it, especially if someone is working for you and isn’t meeting the expectations of the job.

Not defending anyone or their actions, just trying to bring some context into the discussion.
