Was Trent wrong when he dissed Manson, Cornell, and Prince?
I say he was rather discerning in his obversations, old chap. I still fail to see the relevance of Manson beyond Antichrist Superstar, and that album I dare say would not have been the same without Reznor.

We wouldn’t even be having this conversation (manson) if
it weren’t for Trent. No one wanted to sign him. Trent saw something and threw him a bone. POAAF is all manson through and through, but Antichrist has Trent all over it.
No idea what he said about Prince. But he hit the nail on the head about manson and cornell. The stuff between trent and vrenna has to be pretty bad. Not sure what exactly happened.

I never said his observations were wrong or that Manson is not a dick. Though I’d say his “relevance” (an arbitrary term often levelled at him which I don’t quite understand why) extends to ‘Holy Wood’.
Trent’s observations of Manson were spot on. He is a dopey clown these days and drugs/alcohol do seem to rule his life. As an old friend, however, you’d think if Trent really wanted to help someone who was suffering from the same demons he himself overcame, he’d maybe not attack that person in the media with this condescending attitude.
As for Cornell, Prince and Weezer, yeah maybe they have all declined with their latest output. I haven’t heard Prince’s new shit. New Weezer certainly blows, and I suppose Cornell “sold out” (though I have never found him too interesting to begin with). I guess Trent’s style is to speak his mind on that kind of thing. That’s fine.
I was just pointing out he’s quite a dick, and his tactic of bashing other artists is usually just a way for him to get publicity to promote whatever upcoming shit he’s got going.
as far as calling out Chris Cornell for working w/timbaland, didn’t trent speak for awhile in interviews about wanting to work with dre and timbaland on stuff? Shit dre even got to be credited on the fragile for something or other. So it’s ok when trent comes up with the idea, but when he assumes that the label made cornell try and experiment with somebody he himself wanted to experiment with, he sold out. maybe he felt bad cause cornell is pretty and he’s got a big nose
He probably shares the same opinion I would probably have. You listened to soundgarden, maybe a little of Audioslave. You could call it experimentation, I call it a weak attempt at a pop album and alienating your fanbase that you’ve probably had for nearly two decades, maybe longer. When I heard the opening beats of that album, my immediate response was “what the fuck is this shit?”. If I were in Trent’s position, I might actually do the same thing. Hell, I could probably be even far more brutal than that.
Like that person said above, pork, listening to audioslave/soundgarden and failing (esp. w audioslave) and what do you know chris is experimenting with the flavour of the weak…seems desperate. As far as dre and trent , trent uses the same programs to produce his drum tracks as dre (it’s all basically 808/909) and dre just added some drum production to the song ‘even deeper’ it’s not like snoop and eminem were making guest vox. on his record, though it could have happened being that they were on same label. Nin was even coming down off the commercial peak and the aftermath thing was peaking at this time (1999) so if he was a sell-out why not do it then? cause he actually seems to care about his art more than moving units it seems
It took Trent awhile to find a cool look that worked for him.
Remember that RevCo publicity photo where everyone looks badass except Trent who’s got jean-shorts and a crew-cut?

Never been able to figure out who the guy on the top right is. But that’s always been a funny pic. Al, being Al. Chris looks insane. Paul looks like they just did something terrible. Saccia just going with it. And Trent, the kid who tagged along.

That would be Michael Balch from Front Line Assembly I think.
Here’s a similar picture from an old Alternative Press. I hate that it got ripped.
Paul, Trent (before the head shaving), Phildo, Jeff Ward, Chris, Al, and Michael (With Manson shirt).
Looks like Trent and Chris decided to swap coolness points between those two photos. Is Chris trying to rock dreadlocks and bangs at the same time? For shame.
Not that I should talk. I had a mullet for about half of 1990.
