wow…

not quite what i was expecting… at all…

Wow that is awful.

I think it’s funny.

Well, it’s better than most country and it’s better than the last Ministry album. That is all.

So we waited virtually 25yrs for it and that’s what it sounds like??? LAAAAAAAAAME!!!

The vocals as expected are horrible.

The music itself is better than the more recent Ministry crap…but it’s still pretty lame.

If Al was actually singing this wouldn’t be bad. The guy does have a decent voice–or at least used to. The scream-y Ministry-style stuff just doesn’t work in this context.

But yeah, instrumentally it’s more interesting than anything he’s done in ages.

I like it pretty well. Especially the second track which a sort of Stones at their most country vibe. The voice is just what you’d expect, I think that is the only way Al can sing any more, it’s sort of a pity he doesn’t just get another vocalist to do the work…

I wish he’d tone down the vocals! The music isn’t offensive. I actually like the first song a bit and enjoy hearing Scaccias playing. Maybe this IS the only way Al can deliver vocals now, which is sad. If the '94 “Friend of the Devil” is any indication than he’s still capable of singing clean, but then again, wouldn’t that have come out on the samples of the solo record that were leaked this summer?

FUCK. THANK YOU! I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THAT SONG FOREVER! i just didn’t know the name. amazing performance.

god damnit, i wish he fucking used his real voice. i like it.

I was unsure about this project because I have no interest in country, but I like what Al’s done with it. It fits in well with his other projects. The two songs released are pretty similar, though.

“I’ve been planning to do this record for over 30 years. It’s industrial country — Buck Owens meets Gram Parsons meets Keith Richards, and I am having a blast.”

 1. If this project existed in Al’s head 30 years ago, Ministry is a technically spinoff of Buck Satan. [:P]

 2. If you’re doing an “industrial country” record and describing it as a mixture of three influences, why are none of those influences remotely industrial??

I like the tracks quite a bit. It is very different from what I was expecting the Buck Satan thing to be (I thought it would be more traditional country sound with a bunch of accoustics and whatnot) but I think it works.

It is definitely the best thing he’s done in the last 5 years. The vocals don’t bother me and I really like the choral stuff.

I do agree, though, that the two tracks are VERY similar and I would hope that, if he’s doing more stuff like this that he make the tracks a bit more differentiated.

And yeah, SCACCIA RULES!!!

I wish Al would sing!

HAHA!!! I thought that was pretty funny too.

“Yeah, our project is like a mixture of Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Coolio, and Al Green.”

“Really? What does it sound like?”

“Slayer.”

But this ISN’T the only way Al can sing anymore. Listen to It’s Always Christmastime and Halloween '10.
He just doesn’t seem to want to do it differently very much.

But the vocals don’t bother me on this project. I’m just sick of those same programmed drums. At least use a different kit, for crying out loud!

Or he needs a totally different muse. The current one isn’t working. Songs aren’t terrible. Musically, they’re ok to decent. But that credit probably goes to Saccia.

This would have passed for a quirky Wax Trax project back in the day. …not a GOOD Wax Trax project, but it might have worked. I don’t really care for the songs, though they’re actually better produced than his recent output. I just can’t see myself rocking out to these songs on any level in any listening environment. This guy is making lots of head-scratching music lately, that’s for sure.

1002

does anyone have a mp3 version of Friend of the Devil? that would be awesome.

It seems very reminiscent of “Sidewinder” by Lard. “Sidewinder” is one of my favorite tracks, so maybe that’s why I like this new stuff. But on the other hand, do we really need these new ones? I guess I’ll just go listen to “Sidewinder” instead.

Tony Campos, eh?

How about fucking Preston Hubbard, for fuck’s sake?

I don’t mind it, but THE FUCKING ELECTRONIC DRUMS? That’s just stupid, completely detracts from the organic quality I like about some country music. It would’ve been cool if he dispensed with all the digital shit and just recorded straight to tape.

I like the “Friend of the Devil” cover. But then again, I also like when Kid Rock sings country songs.

And damn you all for mentioning the stupid electronic drums. I didn’t really think of it the first time I listened, but now it’s all I can focus on when I hear the songs.

Tick tick ticka ticka ticka tick tick tick tick tick ticka ticka ticka tick tick tick . . .

UGGGH.
