It seems to be that time of the year again. The time you get to start huffing and puffing like weird little furry things about what has turned you on in '09.
Lay your cards on the table and let us take a look. What were the greatest releases in '09???
you bastards!

my favorite album of the year, which I’ve only gotten to listen to in full 2 or 3 times since it came out, has to be Reformed Faction’s “I Am the Source of Light, I am not a Mirror” .
This is the project of Robin Storey (Rapoon) and Mark Spybey (Dead Voices on Air) , both from Zoviet France in the past. Check out the packaging of this sucker, comes in a concrete box with their logo on it, it’s a triple album, and comes with a button, a patch, a book of their art, and a mini 3" cd with a bonus 20 minute long track! Now I usually don’t give a crap about artwork these days, but this package truly makes me proud to own it:
other standout albums for me:
Dead Voices on Air- Fast Falls the Eventide + Abrader reissue
Mark’s latest album is truly spectacular and, like that Reformed Faction album, flows perfectly. Plus it comes packaged with his first release which was cassette only, remastered. Long, droney noisy tracks with bonus tracks with cEvin Key as a guest!
Rapoon- Dark Rivers
I like this alot, as it seems to have a feel of his earlier period Rapoon records, which I really like.
Rapoon- Melancholic Songs of the Desert
This is more of a combination of all the recent Rapoon sounds into one. Pretty cool stuf.
There’s been another Rapoon album that was just released that’s on it’s way from the label in Russia. Another one is supposed to be out too.
Throbbing Gristle: Third Mind Movement
this is the type of TG I like. strange, subtle, mostly instrumental ambient noise.
need more time with:
The Tear Garden- Have A Nice Trip
Edward Ka-Spel- Dream Loops (just got this one yesterday)
Download- Helicopter
Toot, you and I are one of the few raving girly boy music fans on this forum.
In fact, I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve been on another forum where people are less inclined to talk about their favourite bands than on this one.
Well I haven’t heard a lot of new albums this year, but judging by Peligro’s list there is a lot of good stuff I’ve missed.
From what I have bought this year:
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
The Church - Untitled #23 (seriously their best album in 20 years)
The Flaming Lips - Embyronic
The Tear Garden - Have A Nice Trip
Download - Helicopter
Linkwood’s “System” is friggin amazing too. I’m definately putting that at the top of my list…late entry as I just picked it up the other day and have only just been able to give it a few spins.
I’ll also add…
The Very Best “Warm Heart Of Africa”
Anti-Pop Consortium “Flurescent Black”
Animal Collective’s “Merriweather Post Pavillion” was an alright record… it grew old pretty quick though and their record before “Strawberry Jam” was a mile better. Akron/Family’s “Set’em Wild, Set’em Free” trumped “Merriweather…” and for that reason…it doesn’t make my list.

Astounding.
I don’t know about that??? I guess you’re refering to the lack of Jesu in my list…to be honest I’ve only just got Opiate Sun and haven’t got Infinty yet so I can’t really comment…I will say that although I like Opiate Sun it wasn’t a record that knocked my socks off.
Also I happen to dislike the new Revco/Ministry stuff as do a few others here so it’s unlikely you’ll be seeing those in alot of lists.
Other than that though the records I have listed I’m friggin bananas about!
Tough call. Most of the records I bought this year weren’t exactly new. So pretty much everything I snagged is fair game as best of ‘09. Greymachine withstanding, as I’m sure I’ll go fuckin’ apeshit over it.
Paradise Lost: “Faith Divides Us… Death Unites Us”
Mona Mur & En Esch: “120 Tage: The Fine Art of Beauty & Violence”
Dessau: “The Truth Hurts”
Kenichi Arakawa: “The Dark Spire” OST
RevCo: “Sex-O Olympic-O”/“Sex-O Mixx-O”
Best discoveries of this year?
No doubt Christdriver, Consumer Electronics, Whitehouse, Pig Destroyer, Head of David, Trisomie 21, and Burzum.
