I have been listening to a bit of Patti Smith recently and it got me wondering if there is anyone else who has such a strong, edgy voice.
So, tell me, who is your favourite female voice?
Sinead O’Connor is the best vocalist I’ve heard live. I caught her when she was touring her album “Throw Down Your Arms” with Sly & Robbie and she was simply fucking amazing. Sly & Robbie produced that particular album @ Tuff Gong and played the riddim section on it. Sinead covers old classic Roots Reggae songs by legends such as Burning Spear, Peter Tosh, Lee Perry and Bob Marley on the album. When Robbie Shakespear was asked about the originals he said…" the originals? Baby these ARE the originals". Sinead really does an amazing job with them. Obviously her other albums are great too but for me this one is best due to me being bananas about Sly & Robbie.

I LOVE this next woman…Fay Fife of the Rezillos…Rezillos are the coolest band on the planet and STILL have the deadliest live show around!

Might have to go with PJ on this one. I don’t really have too many options. I could say Fiona Apple also, but I actually liked her second album a bit, for awhile. But PJ kicked ass doing Henry Lee on Nick Cave’s “Murder Ballads”, although, I tend to have “Where The Wild Roses Grow” with Minogue a bit more “memorized”. But I know what KMFDM means afterall - Kylie Minogue Fans Don’t Masturbate.

As far as best female singer, HEATHER NOVA! All those other singers listed… Amatures
nothing/no one will ever be as good as or compare to that woman’s angelic voice from her Oyster album (her other albums are no where near as good [as a whole album] as Oyster)
BTW: her ONE single (Walk This World)that was released here in the U.S. does NOT do her voice, her song writing ability, or her Oyster Album justice. And while WTW is an ok Pop song, it grossly misrepresents the rest of the album
