Best albums of 2017

We’re close enough to the end of the month that I don’t expect anything else to blow me away in the next three weeks. So here’s my picks in no particular order:

Fever Ray - Plunge
Some people on her Facebook page seem to hate this record, but I think that’s mostly because they just want the song from Vikings over and over again.

bnqt - Volume 1
The song “Hey Banana” alone puts this on the list.

Roger Waters - Is This The Life We Really Want?
This got far less attention than it deserved.

The Mountain Goats - Goths.
I found this very relatable

Nine Inch Nails - Add Violence
And the schematics book that came with it is WAY better than the coal-dust glitterbomb from the last one.

St. Vincent - Masseduction
I got nothin’ to say expect this is a good record.

Gary Numan - Savage (Songs From A Broken World)
Sometimes he wears his NIN influence a little too openly, but there’s still some cool stuff on here.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, but I’m sure I’ll be back to add stuff to the list.

Ulver-The Assassination of Julius Caesar
Steven Wilson-To the Bone
Afghan Whigs-In Spades
Robert Plant-Carry Fire
Life of Agony-A Place Where there is no Pain
Anathema-The Optimist
Godflesh-Post Self
And the aforementioned Roger Waters albums were some of my faves of the year…I’m sure more will come to me later

Love the new Bootsy album too…and Body Count and A Tribe Called Quest…

Run the Jewels 3 and the new slowdive…

Swans -The Glowing Man? Or was that 2016?

Swans was 2016.
He probably put out another one of his super-duper limited subscriber edition of 12 live albums this year, but if he did I missed it.

Surely, Boy Harsher deserves to be in this thread.

Ruby The Hatchet - Planetary Space Child
See, I knew I’d forget something.

In no particular order:

Afghan Whigs, In Spades
Body Count, Bloodlust
Power Trip, Nightmare Logic
Cavalera Conspiracy, Psychosis
Prong, Zero Days
Quicksand, Interiors
Dead Cross, S/T
Boss Hog, Brood X
3Teeth, shutdown.exe
Ministry, Live Necronomicon
Doyle, As We Die
Warbeast, Enter the Arena

Ahhh yes Quicksand and Dead Cross…of course…

3Teeth, shutdown.exe

Forgot that one too!

Can anyone give me the low down on the Afghan Whigs? I have heard the name throughout the years but never actually heard them. I’ll check out the new album, In Spades, which people have posted on here.

Another good one, especially for those into older and darker music such as Joy Division is Black Marble. I saw them 2 days ago and great show.

Edit: Dead Cross. Yes. For sure.

I’m a huge Afghan Whigs fan…def one of my favorite banda…I’ve been listening to them since the early 90s and have seen them numerous times…I would probably suggest you start with the albums Gentleman and Black Love and then go from there if you dig it…also Greg Dulli’ other band The Twilight Singers is essential imo…start with Blackberry Belle there…if it doesn’t grab you immediatley, give it a chance…anyone with even the slightest modicum of taste will “get it”…

Seems like there’s so much out there these days, I’m having trouble keeping up. Here’s some of the releases that came out this year that I found worth listening to. No specific order, except I’d probably put Grendel at #1. Really great stuff.

I’ve only listened to a few tracks from the new album, but what I’ve heard, I like.

Hadn’t heard of them, but listening now. This is some pretty good stuff.

Also forgot the album John Carpenter put out and the Vietnam War thing by Reznor/Ross…

Living Colour-Shade

I’m a huge Afghan Whigs fan…

Thanks - I am checking out the video for “Demon In Profile” now… is that the same singer as from always (as in “Debonair”)…he looks quite different, if so…

Yeah same guy…Greg Dulli…his appearance has definitely changed with the passing of time…

Unless you watched a live one where Har Mar Superstar was singing…he opened some gigs on the last tour and he sang that song on some of them…
