Best albums of 2017

A few great albums this year but the most mindblowing for me was Jlin’s Black Origami.

Bleep which is a great online record seller here in UK that mainly deal in underground machine music named Jlin’s Black Origami their No.1 of 2017 too.
Rather than a bloated top 50 list they do a top 10 so if music made by machines floats your boat you might want to check their list.

Black Origami is insane. Her total control of the percussive attacks pinging all over each channel is truly Jedi Master like. Essentially it’s one of the most exhilarating and entertaining first listens of an album under headphones I’ve ever heard. My jaw hit the ground pretty much straight away haha

The Obsessed, Blut Aus Nord,Oxbow and Laibach put out great records this year also…

DANZIG - Black Laden Crown
ALICE COOPER- Paranormal

Yeah 2 more good ones…going to see Alice in a couple months

Paranormal was great, and a nice surprise. Along Came a Spider had some good songs but otherwise the last album of his I was really into was Brutal Planet back in 2000.

Drab Majesty _ The Demonstration

Mark Lanegan Band-Gargoyle

Hey! Welcome back. It’s been a while. I always appreciate your music related posts (you were the one who put me on to Burning Spear years ago!).

Black Origami is indeed awesome. Nice choice. Strangely the November issue of The Wire is on my desk as I type this and Jlin is on the cover.

J.G. Thirlwell’s Xordox came out this year and I like that a lot.

Also, Peter Brotzmann and Heather Leigh’s Ears Filled with Wonder technically came out in 2016, but I bought it in 2017 and it’s fantastic:

He aint trolling. The new danzig album is superb. Danzig released “devil on HWY 9” on youtube before the album came out. Im not sure if this was a different mix or maybe my computer speakers sucked on this particular day but that single was terrible. I mocked it thinking the whole album was gonna suck but then i got the album and it was ridiculously good. Devil on HWY 9 sounds different on the album than what is on youtube. This album sounds like it couldve been made by the classic lineup.

Drab Majesty _ The Demonstration

couldnt agree more

My two favs of 2017:

Motorpsycho - The Tower

Melvins - Love and Death

Melvins - Love and Death

A Walk With Love and Death was great. Their most interesting and ambitious album in years, and of course a lot of the arrogant Buzz-can-do-no-wrong die-hards were writing it off and complaining that it’s their worst album ever because of the second half. I’m one of those Melvins fans who can’t stand the elitist attitude a lot of Melvins fans have in regards to their music tastes being more obscure and esoteric than everyone else’s, and it just kind of tickles me for that reason. A lot of the same people have been complaining about the past few Melvins albums being too samey, so then they do something completely different and out-there and still get bitched at.

If you haven’t heard the EP they sold at shows this year (Steve McDonald) then check that one out too. Just a fun, basic, lighthearted little rock record.
