Danzig - Deth Red Sabaoth. - LOVE IT!
Warbeast - Krush the Enemy - LOVE IT!
Iron Maiden - Final Frontier - I’ve only listened to it a few times but I think it’s one of their weakest offerings in a long time.
Scuba “Triangulation”
Four Tet “There Is Love In You”
Linkwood “System”
Swans “My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky”
Killing Joke “Absolute Dissent”
Deerhunter “Halcyon Digest”
I forgot. I also picked up the new Slayer album - “World Painted Blood”. What can I say? It’s Slayer. It sounds like Slayer. No review really needed. If you like Slayer, you’ll like it. If not, this won’t change your mind.

Ditto!

I was SUPER skeptical about it as I really gave up on Danzig after the first four albums, but this is a return to form that was very refreshing.
I think too many people are like me in their biases and won’t even give it a second glance, but if they did I think they’d be pleasantly surprised.[/reply]
I couldn’t agree more. Glenn finally got back to basics. I actually enjoyed Victor’s guitar work on this one.

Now there’s a fine list of music! 4 of those will make it in mine for sure (I’m waiting until late December to make up the list)
Easily as bad as anything he’s put out in the last 10 - 12 years.
Why?

Because, like he said in the part of the post you snipped, there’s no tunes there. You can’t hang your hat on any of those songs. Instantly forgettable.

I thought the new Danzig was horrid.

Really? While I certainly wouldn’t rank it up with any of the first four albums (all masterpieces if you ask me) I definitely think there are some stand out tracks. A couple are forgettable and I find one just unlistenable (“The Revengeful”), but there is a solid core of good songs stuffed in the meaty middle . . .
“Deth Red Moon”
“On a Wicked Night”
“Ju Ju Bone”
“Night Star Hel”
These songs, to me, are great examples of how the Danzig formula works well. I really like those tunes (“On A Wicked Night” is the prime example here) where there is a contrast of the delicate and soulful “beautiful” soft side and then the howling fury and rock. And “Ju Ju Bone” is a great raw and dirty blues song about humping. You can’t go wrong when Danzig gets all down in the swamp. And “Deth Red Moon” has that howling choral refrain that makes us picture shirtless Danzig, sitting on top of a tombstone, screaming at an owl or some stupid crap. It’s just perfect.
It’s not like the old days when I could hit play and listen to the entire album from end to end, but anytime I can find four songs (especially back to back) that I like on a new release I consider it a success.
I agree, Gunnar. Black Candy is a fun one to me. I like that Guitar squeal. Lyrics are silly but they are still fun to sing! this album is certainly the weaker of the first four but still miles ahead 5 through however many it took to get to this album. Not really shocked that many here would put it down. compare it to black acid evil though and you can really see the difference. I think this album closely resembles the sound and the feel of Danzig S/T
