BAD cinema experiences

in response to mick, i really don’t understand why mallick got the top prize at cannes. paul and i saw the movie, and had fairly equal impressions. (“why’d this movie win, again?”)brad pitt was really good, but who the hell died, whom everyone’s memories are falling over? i thought it was a certain one of the sons and paul thought it was a different sibling.
CURIOUSLY ENOUGH, we know a teacher in austin who has been one of malick’s big buddies since college. i see her @ 3 times a year or so. i will put her face to the pavement and ask. “what the hell was THAT all about? i want answers, ask your buddy ,Terry”
very confusing and unsatisfying movie experience. bring on some fluff, man. ward off the overintellectualization.

I watched a review by Mark Kermode (well known British film critic) and he highlighted how it might be cathartic for a parent(s) who have lost a child. I don’t know. But certainly for a non-grieving audience it is a disaster. I did the review thing: http://prendera.tumblr.com/post/7462852135/the-tree-of-life

What I found most perplexing was how poorly it was edited. For a dude who usually spends years editing his films he then goes and churns out one of the worst edited pieces I’ve seen.
