…or did the leak spoil the hype and kill the moment?
Is anyone out there in Ministry land STILL waiting for May 2 (and I don’t mean for 10000 days) with baited breath? Anyone who hasn’t heard it?
IMHO, the leak killed this thing. I can definitely see it affecting sales big time. The leak was way to early. Someone, somewhere fucked up and let fly what should have been a closely guarded secret. Now, where there should have been excitement, there’s just a gaping hole.
Now come May 2, when I eventually hold RGB in my hand, it will all seem so passe. In fact I doubt I’m even going to bother purchasing the damn thing. Sounds sad, but there ya have it.
The WAIT is what being a fanboy is all about.
After the leak, the hype is dead, the ‘dream’ is over. What could have been is smashed, redundant. Back to reality…
The day of the leak was the de facto release date for me… I rarely actually buy CDs anymore, I prefer digital purchases and downloads. So there is no hype left for the CD release, obviously, but so what?
This has nothing to do with somebody leaking the thing ‘too early’. Its a general problem that music distribution is facin gin the digital age… The labels and artists need to learn how to adapt to new technology. These days I get all of my music legally from places like eMusic or iTunes and this model is by far preferable for me and I dont mind paying the 75 cents per track. With traditional distribution, there is a long period between when the album is finished and when it actually makes it to the stores. With digital downloads, you can get rid of this period.
may 2nd is the release date for the new Gomez album, my favorite band. I’ve had it leaked for about a month now, but I’m more excited now more than ever (purposly haven’t listened to the leak in well over 2 weeks) pre-order comes with a shirt and a free live cd.
anyway, maybe I’ll make a trip to the record shop on Tuesday. I’m just not a huge fan of thrash, and I support Ministry but I just might not get this one on the first day.
I don’t have any release since animositisomina. Not by any choice of my own, I used to live in tasmania, and the record stores there heard ministry and pointed me towards the dance section for those awful Ministry of sound cds. Blech. Although now I’m in melbourne, I went to a HMV the other day, and they had the new releases, and even cool stuff like LARD, I havn’t seen lard in a new cd store for AGES. I wanna buy em, but now I’m strapped for cash, lol. I don’t know why i didn’t buy them online, guess I just bought other stuff.
Still have only heard a few songs of houses, only heard The Great Satan off RGB… actually I lied, someone burnt me a copy of Rantology. I wanna buy that, but I don’t wanna pay full price! lol. So I will still be excited to hear those releases.
Ahhh… wait, isn’t there like 2 diff copies of Houses and new RevCo too? how will I know what to get? lol… damn fanboy

Yeah, I know, I know.
My point was that there is a new Ministry release only days away and yet there is virtually no discussion about it here whatsoever. Usually, the fan forums light up around this time! Instead, people were more hell bent on discussing the new Tool release. On a Ministry site!?!?! I just thought maybe everyone here was over it. Which is a shame. Considering the fact that we may not see a new Ministry release again for some time.
I was also just curious as to whether anyone here had not heard the album yet - has anyone managed to resist the temptation and wait for release day. Which is what I should have done.
i don’t think it matters, because, well, of course i couldn’t resist the temptation and downloaded the leak right away. i might not buy rio grande (but most probably will), just because it’s in digipak. nothing against the digipaks, but i prefer simple jewel cases. aaanyway, i agree that they should keep it a very secret and send the promos until 7-10 days before the release date. this is what they should learn from tool!
and if music is interesting, people will buy it. sadly, that’s not the case with rio grande blood. it’s cool and great for a week but then the novelty sort of quickly wears off and you just start noticing like “oh, here’s the piece that sounds just like the ‘wrong’ from houses…” and stuff. and it keeps coming back, this thing, like “shit, these dudes, ministry, one of the biggest underground influences, who once were innovators, turned into immitators”. what’s next - a nu-metal driven album with bush samples?
about the tool, on the contrary, i didn’t make out most of the album on the first listen, but the more i listen to it, the more i love it, unlike houses and rio grande - sadly - the more i listen to them the more they bore me. i’ll definately buy the new tool.

true, but it’s because everyone downloaded, even the folks at pissarmy forum; they just didn’t confess about it.

I can’t get into digital donwloads. I mean they are good for tiding me over until I can hunt down the actual disc or In RGB’s case until the thing gets released. There is something cool about having the actual disc with all of the art work and the thank yous, it just seems more legit.
Having a burned disc of an album is like having a Poster of a Painting on your wall or one of those retarded T-Shirts that has a tuxedo screen printed on the front. It just seems tacky. Although I will agree with the whole digipack thing I hate that! I wish there was some way they would make Digipacks jewel case compatable: meaning you could take the plastic case off and slip the art into a regular jewel case. Fuck Danzig 4 for starting that trend! (that was the first digipack I had) I imagine digipacks are easier on the artists checking account.
Alright, That’s it.
Late,

Well if it makes anyone happy I’ve been waiting for the release and I haven’t heard the new CD, though I’ll admit reading the reviews got my hopes up and then way down. I don’t even bother downloading most of the time cuz my comp sucks and I just like having something in my hand instead of some fucking file on a screen.

Well said, Jupitreas! I totally agree. And if you still want the fancy packaging of CDs bought in stores, you can just download the packaging now. But I still like buying DVDs in stores. I’m too lazy to make nice menus and stuff and I actually trust the quality of industrial-made DVDs more.
Only problem with the new internet market… Well, it’s something I’ve been wondering: Will music stores cease to exist? That would be kinda sad… I remember admiring the goth and indie kids who worked in record stores when I was a kid. Ahhh, it’s just not the same anymore!
I wonder what the next MINISTRY tour will be called… The Old FartTour? Hehehe, just kiddin’
I agree with grmpysmrf about it being ‘more legit’ to have a hard copy of the album.
However, what’s wrong with the D-pak? I love digipaks, don’t know why, they annoy me in that they wear a helluva lot easier then jewel cases, and dont fit into cd racks, and if the teeth break, theres NO way of getting a new tray without shredding the back of the pak… however, I still like them! Lol… I don’t understand it. Rammstein released their last 2-3 albums in a D-pak initially, then after a while changed it to a jewel case. As far as I could see it was all exactly the same, no xtra tracks or artwork, just diff packaging… good for a choice, but if I had bought those albums, i would have bought the digipak versions.
i don’t like digipaks because after awhile the paper/cover gets fucked up. plus all that you mentioned.
it would be nice for us to have a choice what packaging to choose.
artists that go for releasing “additional track on vinyl” or “additional track” on digipak piss me off. why do that? if you’re releasing something, make up your fucking mind, but no, there are two or even three different versions out there… which means more money…
because in the end the music is the most important.
because in the end the music is the most important.
And that is precisely why I no longer care about CDs. I listen to music either from my computer, which has a better sound system than any CD player I ever had, or from my mp3 player.
Count me as the third person who hasn’t heard it yet. I have the title track and Lies Lies Lies, but the rest is a mystery to me. I’m a little excited because the early reviews have been really positive. But then again, I seem to remember Animositisomina and Houses having really great early buzz (“return to form” “best album since ____”) only to suffer from massive backlash after a few months.
I’ll buy it. Also, word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool. and RGB is one of the better ministry albums. its sales will grow shortly after its release.
the reason no one here is talking about it - is because we’ve already talked about it. in fact, most of the “talk” about a new minsitry relase on this board is bitching - this is a solid album - no one is bitching. EOS.
Oh I’m buying it.
Nothing beats a hard copy, and I haven’t listened to my downloaded version for several weeks, just to make it a little fresher when I do get it.
I’m also kind of stoked, myself. Much more about the upcoming tour than the new album, but I’ve also found myself laying off on listening to the leaked version for about the past week or two just to keep it fresh when it does come about…funny how a lot of us did that, huh? And as much as I respect Mrs. Jay (she really IS a cool chick, and has done wonders for Al), I’m tired of hearing the whole “Oh, once you hear a proper copy, on a REAL stereo!” spin. Everyone that has so far heard RGB, has freaking heard RGB! The version that got out there was the real album, and the funny thing about digital compared to the cassettes of my youth is that there is no sound degredation between copies, unless it becomes compressed. I’ve heard RGB, I like RGB, but I expect that it will sound EXACTLY THE SAME on release date as it did two months ago when I stole the fucker. BTW, anyone out there that has resisted, I congratulate you! I just need my Ministry fix on a daily basis, and I really can’t pass up on the new album when I know it’s RIGHT FREAKING THERE, and FREE.
There will never be a Ministry release that I don’t purchase - and in new form at least once. I want at least a small portion of that money to go to the artists, and buying a used copy doesn’t send them a single cent, or boost the “sales record” in any way. My only wish is that they’d go back to releasing singles…actually, not just Ministry, but everyone. I’m at the outer edge of what can be considered the vinyl generation, but damn, I miss the 12 Inch releases. Nice big artwork, interesting unreleased (or remixed) material, and the novelty of having your favorite song on it’s own album…I give it 5-10 years before the term “B-Side” is lost to the ages. This saddens me.

Not to mention the ‘art’ of vinyl (marble colored pressings, picture discs etc). That’s something I miss.
Vinyl is more personal. That warm velvety sound just can’t be beat. Besides you can hang it on the wall.
And damned if vinyl doesn’t look more impressive when autographed. Signing a cd somehow feels kinda hollow.
when (if) i find a copy i’ll buy it. i actually bought another copy of HOTM (digipack) the other week, because my original copy (jewel case) is 7000 miles away.
the thing is, although mp3s are convenient the sound quality is still pretty shit. it doesn’t matter how good your stereo is, an mp3 generally contains about a tenth of the audio data a cd does, so the quality is just not there to begin with. this is why i still prefer to buy cds. sure, you can use exciters and eq to try and put back some of the sound that’s lost, but this is never true to the original recording. and what about the phasing issues mp3s have? those swishing hi-hats for example. if you increase the mp3 bit rate there is still data missing, and a decent stereo will only emphasise the flaws, not make them better. mp3 rant over
and i like digipacks, but only if they’ve got bonus tracks
