[reply]“Skeletons” is a weird album.
I seem to hate and love it in equal parts.
It sounds like it was recorded on a Fischer Price cassette recorder in their bathroom, but the songs are actually quite catchy and infectious. I find myself humming them all day and needing to hear them again.
“Crying in the Rain” and “Let Yourself Go” are the hits for me, with “Rough Boy” and “Lord of the Thighs” as runners up.
Wow, really? Lord of the thighs? That one is a skip for me at this point. But “Satan” has shot up towards the top for me, as well as “Rough Boy.” The Lyrics for “Satan” really brought the song up for me. But lord of the Thighs… man that first “honey you got to understand …” sounds so flat and monotone it bugs me.
I know what you mean about the recording quality though. It sounds like most were recorded at different times, like waaaaaaaaaay different times, like different gear times, and recording equipment times.[/reply]
You guys! We’re so off. First, I love the records “sound.” To me it’s not Fischer Price, but more garage rock. I liked Deth Red, but for me it was too slick.
“Rough Boy?” Seriously? God that song is boring. Literally, nothing happens. Filler, no killer.
“Lord of the Thighs” is fucking cool, but I’m especially partial to the punkier songs. Totally dig “Let Yourself Go,” that’s when Danzig sings Elvis became more than just a concept, but something I actually became excited about.
Overall, it’s really good. I’ve been listening to it a lot last few weeks. The Sabbath cover has also grown on me.
Since the first time i listened to the album i’ve had Satan and Rough Boy playing on a loop in my head. Every time i stand up to walk out of the room, i’m humming one of them. When i come back into the room, i’m still humming them, it has been pointed out to me, hahaha. Let Yourself Go, too, what a great version.
I think the whole album is just fantastic, and the only minor complaint i have is that it’s just too short. Also, Devil’s Angels sounds like the return of the Misfits or something. I love the sound of the album myself, nice and rough. Even reading about it here has meant i just had to start playing the album while i typed this.
It is definitely an album that grows on you.
Very infectious and catchy.
I’d say that was kind of obvious as he chose other prior hits, but he actually went kind of deep on his cut choices instead of the phoned-in obvious ones. In fact, they were largely songs I wasn’t already familiar with but now can’t get out of my head.

Totally, i must have heard Lord of the Thighs at some point years ago, my friend in school loved Aerosmith, but it never stuck. I love Danzig’s version though. Most of the others i’d never heard. Devil’s Angels was on youtube a couple of years ago, so i’d listened to the original version of that too and really liked it. I love his enjoyment of these throwaway songs from biker films he probably saw in the early, early era of VHS. Or maybe at a satanic drive-in with a complimentary demon orgy at the climax. But that Satan track, same thing, just a fun, trashy biker song and he elevates it. I’m so glad i gave Danzig a chance a few years back after dismissing him (without giving him a fair chance) many years before.

Yeah, too many just get caught up in the hipster fun (and don’t get me wrong, it is VERY fun) of making sport of his douchiness. But they are really missing out if they don’t also give him a chance . . . at least musically if nothing else.
And, yes, I am a huge fan of the man himself now (after writing him off post-IV for the longest time).
I honestly can not think of a single person who gives less fucks about what people think or say about him than Danzig. He’s vilified and trashed more than anyone and he won’t even so much as reply to any of it or even acknowledge it.
“So, Danzig, I read that you don’t like having your pic…”
“Fuck off. I’m here to talk about my album. Do you have any questions about it? No? Good bye.”
I kind of feel the same way about Mike Tyson, though I do think Tyson is very much concerned with and affected by how people think of him. But they both seem now very comfortable in calling shots on their own terms.
I wonder how either of those guys would feel about being compared to each other, haha!

Not to go too far off-topic here, but I used to hate Tyson. I thought he was a mindless thug. But I gotta say, I saw his “stand-up / spoken word” act (there really is no good term for it) on HBO, and I did a complete 180 on the guy. Turned a monster into a man who is fighting his inner demons 24-7.
Also, there’s the “Mike Tyson Mysteries” on Adult Swim. Beyond funny.
I’m very similar about Tyson.
I have really come to respect the guy and have empathy for him as well. And, whether or not he behaved inappropriately with a woman 20 years ago . . . unlike most celebs caught in similar situations, he served the time.
And it still haunts him. I saw some guy on an interview program refer to him as a “convicted rapist” despite the obvious pre-show agreement that any such questions or references were off limits. Mike called him a “fucking pieth of sthit” and wouldn’t back down. It was awesome.
I think a lot of people take pot shots at the dude, which is okay if you’re just a comedian or an internet troll, but if you’ve expressly agreed to leave such subjects alone and you bumrush the dude with it regardless . . . you deserve all that’s coming to you.
Mike Tyson plays the villain in Ip Man 3, he gets to fight Donnie Yen, which should be quite a bout. It looks great, i’ll be interested to see how he acquits himself in a dramatic part. I feel the same way about him, i used to hate the guy and think he was just a violent thug, but these days he seems like he’s trying hard to be a different person. He seems like an interesting man who’s had a very rough life at times, has hurt other people and hurt himself and is trying his best to keep his temper under control.
Does anyone know how to remove this from my “watched threads”? I keep getting emails about this…I could give a fuck less about Danzig or anything Misfits related honestly…I don’t know how it became “watched” in the first place!

I think if you just post more in the thread about how you don’t want notifications about it it will eventually know you mean business and remove you from the updates list.
This was my “review” I posted on FB the night of the premiere.
DANZIG ON PORTLANDIA REVIEW
[WARNING: SPOILERS]
What the fucking fuck was that fucking shit? I wait 6 fucking months to see Glenn Fucking Danzig on Port-fucking-landia and this is what they do to me? The 1 minute promo they released on Monday was the full segment! I thought we were gonna get more Glenn!!! There was no more Glenn. That was all the Glenn they gave. What a crock of shit. Fuck you, Portlandia. And fuck you, Glenn, for giving us 6 months of blue balls and leaving us with a giant boner kill.
On this week’s Portlandia, the slacker husband character was wearing a Ministry t-shirt and picked up a chick at Urban Outfitters while shopping for some Misfits apparel.
