I can’t remember if this was something I read in comments here or from a conversation I was having with someone at one of the gigs but for some reason, Danzig live does not translate well to video. Judging him off a few crappy (and even the not-so-crappy ones) iPhone vids or something really is a mistake.
3 years ago I’d likely have sided with Amlux, but all I can say is that if you haven’t seen/heard Danzig LIVE for yourself, you really don’t know what you’re saying.
Maybe that’s true but his studio albums since the late 90’s have left a lot to be desired - especially the last two. Circle Of Snakes was pretty dire.
Deth Red Sabaoth was great and his voice was back to full strength. I’d read before that his voice was wrecked, and i definitely notice it wasn’t as strong on Circle of Snakes, Satan’s Child and 777, but apparently he gave up dairy and got it back. Weird.

I mostly disregard “Satan’s Child”, “I, Luciferi”, and “Circle of Snakes”, but “Deth Red Saboath” was a nice return to form. Would have been a damn near perfect album if I had been successful in poisoning Tommy Victor prior to its recording.
Haha, you sure don’t care for Tommy V [:)] I liked 7:77 and Circle of Snakes, more with each listen, but they’re definitely weaker albums. Deth Red and 1 - 4 are indispensible though.

“Satan’s Child” has a cool sludgy raw vibe to it with a pretty cool groove. I’ve tried a few times to give “Snakes” and “Luciferi” a chance but it never really stuck. If I can find them used for cheap I’ll pick 'em up and try again.
I recently gave a fair and balanced second chance to “Blackacidevil” and ended up really loving it. I can’t remember if I posted my review here or not.
Danzig played last night near my place but it was part of some stupid “KNOTFEST” (yeah, like Ozzfest but with Slipknot instead, hahaha) thing and I didn’t feel like spending $100 to see him from atop a grassy knoll 1000 feet away.

Yeah, i kept meaning to give Blackacidevil another shot after your review but never got round to it. Heard a couple of songs off it over the weekend and they were good. I noticed that Knotfest thing there, Tommy Victor was there with both Prong and Danzig, i’d have watched them and maybe Testament but the rest wasn’t anything i’d be that bothered about seeing, especially at an outdoor show. Slipknot are good live, too, but i’m not exactly falling over myself to see them again.

If I’d known that Anthrax, Testament, and Danzig were all on the same day I’d maybe have gotten a ticket. I just saw originally that it was a Slipknot festival and spread over the course of 3 days.
I’m okay with an outdoor show, but I need to be up front and close no matter the venue. At the small gigs this usually costs me between $50-$100 at the most, depending on the band.
To get Pit pass for these big festivals, it runs about $400.
So unless it’s Iron Maiden or AC/DC or something . . . no, I’m not interested.

A buddy of mine, Patrick Hart, does gore/horror art and was, I guess, exhibiting and selling his wares at the Housecore Horror Fest, where Danzig and Samhain were also playing. This is his Facebook update from 30 minutes ago.
“on the bus with Glenn Danzig, sipping herbal tea, playing a game of uno, and discussing our favorite episodes of The Golden Girls”
Filter had a good set list focusing on their heavier material, but they had sound issues. The guitar was out for half of the first song. And the new bassist isn’t a good match either. She’s a jazz bassist, so she doesn’t play hard enough to match the material.
I got there halfway through American Head Charge. They’re whatever. I saw Combichrist a few years ago and they put on a good show, but they’ve changed a lot since then. Basically a goth metal band now. They’re dropped most of the electronics. And yeah, we split before Korn Chamber came out.
Merch booth was huge, but I didn’t pick anything up.
That’s AWESOME!!!
Was Glenn just there to hang out and see the show?
Was anyone else (that you saw) going up to him?
Did he have a Danzig shirt on?
Did you talk to him or just give him a shout out from across the room?
Sorry so many questions.
I think it’s huge news anytime Danzig does anything that regular people do, and even “going to a show” falls in that category, so I kind of need to know everything about it.
Ha! Yeah, he was hanging outside the HOB box office. Just standing around talking to some guy. He had a black shirt on, but it wasn’t a Danzig shirt. Nobody was bothering him. I was catching up with a friend a couple feet away when I noticed him. I didn’t yell at him, but I did have to raise my voice a bit to get his attention. He smiled and gave me the forks.
