Bites is probably overall my most favorite album by any artist period, for me it just has the right mix between the dance club tracks and the weird experimental stuff. Dead Lines is my all time favorite track by them, but Assimilate is a close runner up. I went through at least three cassettes of this one back in the 80s.
The live show is always a spectacle, but it is cool over the last few tours that they have been dusting off songs that had not been played in years, and in some cases others that had never been played live before. Fascist Jock Itch, Amnesia, and Rodent were a big surprise last time out.

Not related to the current tour but I just did my annual tradition of listening to “Too Dark Park” on the day before Halloween (seeing their show that night off that tour changed young Green Death in deep ways). Damn, that is a really good album. It’s very confused sounding, but not as straight ahead noise assault as “Last Rites” which is a bit much for me. When you listen to the drums and the triggered samples, there’s some really strange stuff going on there but I feel many of the tracks still have the structure needed to pull it off. Good stuff!

I agree, TDP is to me the most punkish of all their albums. Most of the songs are short, and like you said while there is a lot noise it is all structured. Last Rights seems to be most die hard fans favorite album, but I find it to be rather too chaotic. Mirrowsaw though is a great song from that time period.

I missed your comment about the live show the first time I read this. I completely agree, one of the cool things the live show is the fact that they will play material they haven’t played in a long time or ever. I’m about to head out for the show in Pomona, should be a good time…hopefully they hold true to form on the surprise songs.
Do they still do weird stuff during their shows? When I saw Too Dark Park Ogre came out with a bandaged up head and abdomen and started pulling fake guts out of them. Later he got up on pneumatic stilts and walked around on all 4s which was pretty freaky. And there was some big throne thing that looked like it would eat someone. Not too mention the faces of death type videos playing. But, I was really drunk and barely remember it so maybe he just stood there and sung all night.
No… you remembered it right [:)] Everything you said was pretty much spot on to the show I saw.
Its ironic that tour was the most weird and intense, and yet only one completely abysmal quality video has surfaced in 20 years. They still do weird stuff, and Last Rights had bigger props, but TDP takes the cake for sheer craziness.
For fans of the older stuff you should definitely check this tour out. The show last night was a bit hampered by a mediocre venue with a curfew (ho hum, only time for one encore) but it was a pretty amazing setlist. I’m still kind of floored that Morpheus Laughing and Dogshit were in there. The versions of Rodent and Addiction were nicely updated as well!

And Ogre goes through several layers of costumes as your were probably expecting.
@Greendeath, sadly no! The Puppy show was in Pomona which is a good 40 minute drive to and from LA so by the time I got back it was just shy of 1 and I was down for the count. Phooey.
Woo-hoo, Addiction. For some reason, I don’t mind seeing spoilers for SP shows, I usually try not to ruin the suspense, but this is cool. I have to wait until December, ugh.
What, no “Glass Houses” at the Glasshouse last night? Yes, too obvious. I like that they’re playing Love In Vein this time, I think Inquisition was played on the last tour. Not a bad song, just a little on the boring side for a single.
HA, too funny, I was complaining about the Glass Houses thing to a friend of mine. I was like “They’ve gotta play it, it’s the Glass House!” Maybe they were afraid everyone would take the lyrics literally and smash up the Glass House?
Love in Vein was really excellent live, great way to open the show. Agreed, like that track loads more than Inquisition which is fine but just kind of the usual fare as far as Last Rights songs go.
Coming from Vancouver, Skinny Puppy were always big in our books. And I’m still a big fan. Too Dark Park was crazy, hands down.
I like the old stuff better, but I’m still a big fan of the new stuff as well (and I include The Process amongst the new stuff, even though it was pre-break up, because it has more in common with The Greater Wrong of the Right and Mythmaker than it does with the early stuff).
Skinny Puppy are a band that has never put out an album that I don’t like (Neubauten and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are two others that come to mine).
in fact, I’m going to go start a thread about that.
Saw the Mythrus tour in '07 and thought they picked a great mix of songs from their entire catalog. Looks like they’ve upped the ante even further here as even thinking about hearing Morpheus Laughing and Assimilate live is making up my heart rate go up! Excellent looking set, can’t wait to hear what else gets played for the encore. Hoping for Spasmolytic.

Yes, over the last few tours that were not at festivals they usually have around 4 songs they rotate as the encores.
TGWOTR had The Choke, Testure, Smothered Hope, Convulsion, and Blue Serge
Mythrus had Blue Serge, Far Too Frail, Social Deception, and Testure
Hopefully there will be some more surprises on this tour, but Deadlines and Assimilate alone has me sold. Deadlines is my favorite song by them and I have been waiting 23 years to hear it live.
