Big fan here, but no one knows what the set list is going to be this time around. It will most likely include songs off the new album which will not be out by the time of the tour due to the situation with SPV. The setlist is usually very varied with 15-20 songs. The last couple of tours have seen several songs never played live before.
shit I hope they play the choke or Worlock.
shit I hope they play the choke or Worlock.
Worlock has been a staple of the live set since 1990, it is probably a shoe-in that it will make an appearance.
Carmangary - I think they experimented more with the songs live in the old days when Dwayne was still alive, although they worked live guitar into a lot of the old songs on recent tours without it really being obnoxious.
RE: setlist - They pretty much touch all of their albums, so fans are generally never disappointed. SP can release a mediocre album and still put on an amazing concert. Addiction is one song I’ve been waiting to hear (hasn’t been played live since TDP, to my knowledge). Still, if they don’t play it this year, I’m not going home disappointed. I get to see those guys and Nitzer Ebb in a 10-day span, gonna be sweet.

Addiction was the opening song throughout the Last Rights tour in 92, but has not been played since then. I guess I can understand why they might be reluctant to play that one, which is unfortunate as its one of their most killer songs live.
Skinny Puppy are amazing live and I’ll be at that show as well. I can’t say enough good things about their live act.
‘Mythmaker’ is a bad album but the tour for that was still great. Lots of variation and old songs thrown into the mix.
I can’t wait for the new Skinny Puppy. I think it’s going to be great seeing how the latest Ohgr was more industrial/experimental and less pop/techno-ish.
I just hope they move beyond the glitchy techno shit and get more rock oriented.‘Greater Wrong of the Right’ was fantastic and has aged really well–I love the album, but ‘Mythmaker’ was a disappointing follow up.
‘Last Rights’ style is what I’m hoping for this time around.
I think one of the things they’re missing is they need a third person taking part in the songwriting. Mark Walk is cool but they need to allow their guitarist or someone else to be a real band member I feel and do some writing.
ooohh good times i’ll be at that show too. But i don’t want to know the setlist ahead of time. I like a suprise. The only thing i tend to want to know is what merch they’ll have and how much.

from the article
“We’ve actually been using methods and techniques similar to those we used when we made Remission, our first record. The new album will contain a lot of crunch and a lot of rhythms that don’t sound so much like those on Mythmaker, our previous album. Everything will be more mechanical and 12-bit sounding.”
Yeah I agree that Mythmaker was disappointing, but the new album sounds very promising.
Just noticed Cevin’s wearing a big headband like Al does.
I wonder how much hair he’s missing…

Ah, did not know that, thanks. I did not get to see them on that tour, there was no stop in Phoenix that year.

SP are great… any plans for Aus? Probably not.
And why does everybody hate “THe Process” ?
Question for the old skool Prongers left - years ago when someone made that DC++ room I nabbed some Process demos and a 3cd demo/rarity/live compliation of SP which wasn’t just SP, some download etc and some radio session stuff too, but I must have lost it along the way somewhere - anybody know what I’m talking about or have it up on soulseek or something?
Personally I loved TGWOTR and Mythmaker… But I think I liked Mythmaker a lot more. I have Rabies which is pretty cool too. I have a hard time getting into their other CDs. All the ohGr CDs were great, DIMD being my personal favorite. I cannot wait to get the new album… And the fucking Seattle show is 21+, the Vancouver show’s already sold out… If ohGr was all ages and SPs 21+ I don’t understand. Revolting Cocks was all ages for fuck’s sake.
I really liked ‘Greater Wrong…’, although it definitely could have used some inspiration in the lyric department…
‘Hit me, hit me in the streets…’
‘Why…are we…so useless…’
Ouch!
However, the last two or three tracks are killer.
I haven’t heard it but a good friend , who isn’t really even a fan of Skinny Puppy, told me that Mythmaker was really enjoyable - much better than ‘Greater Wrong…’
What did the detractors here dislike about Mythmaker? Curious to know as I have seen it on vinyl and was perhaps thinking of snaring m’self a copy.
Not too keen on their earlier stuff. It’s decent but…meh.
What did the detractors here dislike about Mythmaker?
That constant vocoder effect made me want to throw it out the window after the third song or so. Kills it for me.

Mythmaker is the only SP record since I started following them in 1986 that I didn’t listen to the whole album all the way through the first time hearing it. It just didn’t grab me the way a lot of the side projects over the past decade has. I also think Ogre has been writing much better lyrics with his solo stuff than the last 2 SP platters.
It is a much more electronic/experimental album than TGWOTR was, but some of it sounds how can I put it way too nice, or polished. Many of the synths just sound too syrupy if that makes sense. Mark Walk’s influence seemed to be more prevalent I think on this one too, and there was lots more studio gimmickry on the vocals. To me it is the oddest album in their entire catalogue which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
If you do pick it up Peligro the double colored vinyl is the way to go as the 2nd record consists of remixes that improve on some of the songs greatly. I am glad I purchased that.
Picked up ‘Mythmaker’ on vinyl not too long ago. Was pleasantly surprised as, yes, it had its fair share of ‘detractors’. Really like the first half of the album - second half…mmmmm…not so much. Vocoder doesn’t bother me, but the album would have benefited greatly with the odd clean vocal.
Must admit though, I don’t really listen to it much.
Never been a massive Skinny Puppy fan. Prefer their later period (post 1988). Last Rights is a fave as is Greater Wrong Of The Right. In fact, GWOTR was the album that renewed my interest in them.
I remember first hearing them in '86 and thinking gee, this would be really great, were it not for those whiny, nasally screeched vocals!
I think both GWOTR and Mythmaker are pretty poor. I’ve given each of them quite a few chances and they never click. The originality and funk of early Puppy is totally missing to my ears and it was replaced with overly processed vocals, boring lyrics and stabs of shitty guitar.
I was a huge Puppy fan for many years and seeing them live off “Too Dark Park” genuinely changed young 16 year old Green Death, but these days I’m more a fan of their singles than their albums (with the exception of my holy trinity of Puppy releases “Remission”, “Rabies” and “Too Dark Park”).
That said, I am curious for their new album. I liked the last Ohgr release and hope that we see a little crossover in terms of sound.
I like Skinny Puppy.
Don’t love 'em but like 'em well enough.
