I always really liked soundgarden growing up, and didn’t mind a few of Cornell’s solo tracks although audioslave didn’t do much for me but has anyone heard his new song yet? The cd will be produced by Timbaland (same guy who does Timberlake and Nelly Furtado etc). It’s um… different? Anyhow check it out for a good laugh. plus your 12 year old daughters may love it.
the full length premiered on ryan seacrests website but i doubt anyone here will really want to hear the whole thing. i can’t wait for the dancefoor remixes that will come out though.
When you see names like Timbaland and Timberlake in the same paragraph as Cornell you know hes lost it. Ryan Seacrest… what the fuck is this shit! I suppose Cornell is going to be on that Idol program next.
Soundgarden were a great band, one of the best of the 90s. ‘Louder than Love’, ‘Badmotorfinger’ and ‘Superunkown’ were class albums. I still think Jesus Christ Pose is one of the best rock songs ever. Even their less advanced stuff like Fopp and Ultramega OK had their moments (Hunted Down and Flower).
The first Audioslave album I thought was decent enough and Id still listen to it. Cornell was pretty good on that album, the songs did his lungs justice. I saw Audioslave twice. The first time was very good: summer of '03 indoor gig, played White Riot which was cool. Second time they played RATM and Soundgarden songs, but it was outdoor so sound wasnt too good. The second Audioslave album was shite and I havent bothered with them since.
Cornell’s solo stuff is lame I think, that Bond song was crap and that new one is very crap.
Would not be interested in seeing or hearing him again unless its under a Soundgarden banner.
Never really cared for Soundgarden, but I thought Audioslave was ok (they were pretty good at Lollapalooza a few years ago, I mainly wanted to see A Perfect Circle and Jane’s). I don’t like them enough to buy any of their stuff. I do like Cornell’s Bond theme from Casino Royale.
Heh, just the other week I was at a bar during karaoke night and Chris’s sister was singing. She had a pretty nice voice and wasn’t too hard on the eyes either (not a knockout, but a pretty gal).
I never really cared that much for Cornell’s singing style, not my cup of tea, but I do respect Soundgarden as a band.
I saw him play as Chris Cornell just about 4 or 5 mos. ago. I thought it was great. He played for a long ass time and hit on some stuff I really wanted to hear (temple of the dog, badmotorfinger). His voice still sounds great and he still seems like a badass. It’s sucks he’s going all TRL on us. The songs I remember for sure were:
Can’t Change Me (solo)
Seasons (solo)
Superunknown (Soundgarden)
4th of July (Soundgarden)
Fell on Black Days (Cornell Acoustic) (Soundgarden)
Spoonman (Soundgarden)
Slaves and Bulldozers (Soundgarden)
Outshined (Soundgarden)
Jesus Christ Pose (Soundgarden)
Rusty Cage (Soundgarden)
The Day I Tried to Live (Soundgarden)
Black Hole Sun (Soundgarden)
Cochise (Audioslave)
Like A Stone (Audioslave)
Doesn’t Remind Me (Audioslave)
Show Me How to Live (Audioslave)
Say Hello To Heaven (Temple of the Dog)
Hunger Strike (Temple of the Dog)
Pushin’ Forward Back (Temple of the Dog)
love soundgarden, enjoyed his first solo material mostly, it was a 3/5 kinda album, with a couple brilliant songs and some crap. I loathe Audioslave with a passion, I liked RATM and Soundgarden, and Audioslave was such crap I was stunned when I got the demo’s pre-first LP. Cornell’s post AS solo had about 2 good songs and the rest was boring mush.
That said, I did go see him on the first solo tour and he was fucking great. I skipped the newer tour but a friend of mine went said it was excellent.

Does he still hit those high notes like in the Soundgarden days or does he have that phlegmatic delivery from Audioslave? His lower range and overwrought performance is my biggest problem with Cornell post-Soundgarden…
that’s a pretty nice setlist, and i must track down the solo version of this song immediately.
i’m really interested in seeing what his new shows will be like as i don’t see how he can possibly play the old stuff along side this new dance shit hes doing???
As I was telling Fish as we first listened to this, his voice in this TRL type song is actually quite good. Yes, not a fan of the song, but I do admire he’s hitting those high notes once again.
But then again, it’s certainly not as good as this:
i liked audioslave first record, i don’t have any of the others. and i saw them at the tabernacle on their first tour. it was a good show. they even covered “working man”. i had a blast.

Yeah, you could tell he wasn’t in his prime anymore, but it was really close. He hit what he needed to. Definitely got the crowd into the show, it was one of the loudest crowds I’ve seen at a show that wasn’t sold out. I agree with the post Soundgarden Cornell thing.
I thought he was great. Enjoyed the soundgarden stuff, and his first solo album. Audioslave’s first album had moments, but wsan’t something that i’ll go back and listen to again. And I heard his billie jean cover and cringed. The comparison to Al is kinda funny. Only difference between the two is that Al just lost it, while cornell lost it while selling out. I think if money weren’t an option, cornell would probably still be alright, but that’s clearly not the case.
Was always more loyal to electriclarryland… Favorite soundgarden is tough, but I really got into down on the upside before I even got around to hearing the stuff before that. Superunknown is a great album, but Down on the Upside has a lot of amazing moments there.
