Animositisomina

“Brick Windows” and “The Fall” are easily my two favorite tracks on Filth Pig. I didn’t like BW at all when it came out but now it’s one of the Ministry songs most likely to get a play from me.

They saved the best song for last on that album, as far as I’m concerned. It’s Apathy Part 2.

1002

there are background guitar parts on i think Die In A Crash that sounds like Brick Windows.

I like BW. It’s such an upbeat song to end Filth Pig on.

Yeah, it’s like a sliver of hope on an otherwise torchered, morose album.

Yeah, I hated it as well when I first heard it, but my has it grown on me… much like the whole album, but especially BW.

Animositisomia is my favorite ministry album.

Shove is genius, Leper is (maybe along with Happy Dust) the best instrumental Ministry song. Broken and Light Pours Out Of Me are nice too.

It was the last time when I listened to a new Ministry record and thought: “What was THAT? - I have to hear it again immediately!”

My favorite Ministry album, man did I hate it at first. Good song, but not my favorite on the disc.

‘Brick Windows’ is one Ministry’s finest songs ever put on an album. It is a fitting closer to their best album. Ive always thought it could act as an opener for a show too, its that good. Like others have said, when I first heard it it didnt sound special at all. But just like the Filth Pig album, when you give it a chance you discover how cool it is.

I adored Filth Pig as soon as i got my filthy paws on it. And i remember the wait we had for that damn thing finally dropping…but from Reload on it kicked ass…until Brick Windows which was pish!

A lot of you are fucking tools (not that I didn’t already know that) for not liking ‘Animositisomina’ or “Brick Windows”

I love that song. How it kind of closes ‘Filth Pig’ on an optimistic note when the album was so dark and claustrophobic.

That being said, ‘Animositisomina’ is one of my favorite Ministry albums. It finishes the awesome trio with ‘Filth Pig’, ‘Dark Side of the Spoon’

To me, those are the best 3 albums of Ministry’s career because they are creative and display a distinct sound. The band finally broke away from boring 4/4 beats and extremely simple song writing to do something more complex and varied.

“Impossible”, “Animosity”, “Broken”, “Leper”, “Shove”,
“The Light Pours Out of Me”-- these songs are fucking stellar!

“Piss” is like “Reload” part 2 and is very cool in that bizarre, grating way. “Stolen” is very experimental and interesting.

To me, ‘Animositisomina’ is a condensation of everything Ministry had done to that point. You have the slower, sludginess of ‘Filth Pig’, the drugged-out experimentalism of ‘Dark Side of the Spoon’, and the heavy Industrial Metal of other efforts, plus plenty of programming and keyboards.

Like any incredible album, I hated most of it when it came out. Just didn’t click with me and I didn’t understand it because I was used to the earlier, more simplistic shit.

But now I think it’s easily in the top 3 Ministry albums and miles ahead of an album like ‘Mind…’ which is more appealing at first glance but is so fucking repetitive and simplistic that the songs just get old quick.

BTW this was the first album I got by the band when it came out. I first heard of them through seeing the “What About Us” video on MuchMusic so I don’t have that oldschool fan bias like most of you do.

I think it’s the oldschool fan bias that’s keeping most of you from liking ‘Animositisomina’. I consider myself fairly objective since coming so late in the game and I think stuff off of ‘Mind…’ and ‘Psalm 69’ is so formulaic, simple, and overrated a lot of times while their later shit, which is more deserving of praise, is often trashed because it doesn’t comform to Metal stereotypes and simple dance beats.

Therapy? use that trick often as well, and considering Supermanic Soul has the same riff as “Knives”, I sense some borrowing of ideas is at work here!!

I don’t think it’s any sort of old school bias that keeps me from liking “Animos” - I thik it has a lot more to do with the fact that I way prefer dance and electronic drone music over metal and grindcore and liked Ministry best when they were either hard-edged dance or when they blended the genres. Godflesh bores me. Sabbath bores me. Swans bore me until their later more folky material. Cut Copy, DFA, Goldfrapp, The Knife, Ladytron, etc all thrill me.

I also feel that “Animos” is the first Ministry album to have production work that is anything less than spectacular. You could tell the production budget for that album was considerably lower than any of their previous efforts. I think producing on the cheap has gotten easier and actually think, for all it’s faults, TLS is the best produced Ministry album since “DSotS”.

BLah blah.

A lot of you are fucking tools (not that I didn’t already know that) for not liking ‘Animositisomina’ or “Brick Windows.”

Could somebody explain to me how not liking something makes one a “fucking tool,” whatever the hell that is?

I’m half expecting you to pull a MaggitTooth and call someone a “big homo,” voidhead.

oh see, some people take opinion (generally their own) as fact. you just gotta give 'em a good belt on the top…they start running smooth again.

I think it’s fair to say you haven’t heard Godflesh’s “Us And Them” album. I’d also say you haven’t heard “Songs Of Love And Hate” judging by that statement too…both of which are my fav albums of theirs and BOTH of which contain some of the most badass Breaks/Dub/DnB and Hip Hop beats ever commited to vinyl.

Don’t be so sensitive I was being sarcastic. I have a bizarre sense of humor and a way of typing my thoughts here on the internet that would get my ass kicked if it was real life.

You’re right, I haven’t heard “Us and Them” and “Love and Hate”. I’ll give them a shot. I’d love to find a Broadrick album I really love, it’s just not happened yet.

I know. I was being sarcastic, as well. However, this business of “fucking tools” got you banned from Litany… so use it sparingly. [;)]

Wow! I’m surprised at how many of you also like this album. I myself still refer to this album (however erroneously) as “My favorite NEW album of all time”.

Did anyone get the DVD-Audio version of this? If so, how was it?

Well the thing about it is that it IS NEW.

I mean NIN and blah blah blah gets tagged as “new influential genius future music” or whatever.

But Sure maybe that’s true but THIS ALBUM in particular.

Fuck. There’s nothing like it. The experiments on this
record still could be released today and people would
be like. What the FUCK is that ?! that’s creepy!
AND i think that if this album came out in 10-15 years
or more… from now STILL that would reign true.

Kind of a Pink Floydian timelessness…

I remember playing it for people and people getting
almost nauseous because of how bizarre it sounds.

The song i like the least is the first/title track.
It’s great blaring metal but when you get knee
deep into that record you start drifting into this
surreal dark Western Style Wonderland that
kind of feels like Alice in Texas Chainsaw Wonderland

That’s my best description of this record.

Alice In Texas Chainsaw Wonderland.

Think about it. Really.

edit

ALSO.
The one thing i forgot to mention about Animosity is…

When i FIRST listened to that record.
I turned off the lights laid in bed… with wicked headphones on…

and that album

…scared the living shit. out of me.

edit
P.S.

You’re all a buncha Tools.
