Animositisomina

I would respectfully offer “Happy Dust” as evidence of the best Ministry instrumental. Sounds like an Acid Horse Leone-tribute b-side.

10/10 without a doubt the absolute BEST Ministry instrumental EVER!
Those frantic sax solos bring an incredible sense of urgency and fear to the song!

Just because of “10/10,” DSOTS is one of my favorite records ever.

“Animositisomina” is one of my favorite Ministry albums for a good number of reasons, first and foremost being “Stolen.” I love the hell out of every track on it, though I do prefer the alternate version of “Unsung” on “Rantology,” and I could do without “The Light Pours out of me.” “Leper” fucking RULES.

Animos… is simply the most under-rated album ever. A lot of people I know didn’t even know of it’s existence which I found heartbreaking.
Animosity is the greatest Ministry opener for me. Unsung and Piss are just brutal. Lockbox is like E without the comedown. Broken’s perversion and softly sung choruses are superb. The Light Pours Out of Me is a nice half way climax and the downbeat Shove works very well after it. Impossible and Stolen are fantastic experimentations that everyone needs to learn from and Leper wraps the whole album up in a way that we rarely see.

I love it.
The only complaint I have is, like Gila said, the frequency issue. Doesn’t stop it being my second favourite album of all time though…

Duly noted and completely dismissed [:)] BULLSHIT!!! PABST BLUE RIBBON!! err, I mean 10/10 [:)] If ever I write a movie and there is some part where a psycho killer is chasing his victim and the victim is frantically trying to get away, that will be the music I use in the foreground!!!

Oh, man, don’t sell the album short!! I mean, 10/10 is a great song, but I think that whole album is just perfection. As a matter of fact, I should revise my list and put DSOTS first. I can listen to every song on DSOTS and like it (even “Step”- i need help!) My least fav. song on that album is “Bad Blood” and when your least fav. song is still quite good it’s a win/win situation for all. whereas, I adore Filth Pig, but Brick Windows is completely unlistenable, and is, in the words of the mighty Jack Black from High Fidelity, “Crappy Papp.” I know many don’t agree and have told me so before but I stand by my opinion!! Paisly should’ve been used instead.

To say i was really disapointed with “AnimositisominA” would probably be about as big of an understatement as i can think of except for “Shove” most of it’s tunes are largely forgetable. Broken is pretty good and (I do think the title track is harder than anything on the last 3 albums which isn’t saying much but still, the lyrics are really fucking 'tarded but I do like the chorus!) Lock Box sounds much like I would expect a new Pail head to sound like…and that pretty much ends my list for “AnimositisominA” Thank you and goodnight!

I love this record.

This was the first ANTICIPATED ministry album i ever bought, as a fan.

Cause I bought Dark Side a year after it came out as a starting fan, about 14 years old or some shit.

Then when this was coming out. I was all. WOAH.
NEW MINISTRY!??! HOLY CRAP!!

Turned out to be Their Most Experimental, bizarre and even I can honestly say one of their darkest albums of all.

Love that screwed up piece of sonic playdough.

Similar story to myself. I bought all of Ministry’s albums (up to that point) in 1999, got ‘Dark Side’ about 2 months after it came out. So was waiting for ‘Animo…’ since then. Though I would include ‘Greatest Fits’ and ‘Sphinctour’ as filling the wait somewhat.

I feel like the minority. Animositisomina is my least favorite album. There’s just not much on it that’s very memorable for me, and it all seems to go on too long. I’m not really bananas for the Bush trilogy (haven’t heard TLS yet), but I listen to them before I toss on Anim.

No, I’m totally in agreeance with you. It’s dull, lifeless, forgettable and half cooked. There are some so so ideas here and there but none of them were every really developed. It was seen as being their ‘comeback’ album at the time but I couldn’t disagree more. It was more or less the last bit of proof needed to convince me that Ministry were finished.

That should have been the final nail in the coffin.

Unfortunately…that wasn’t to be.

don’t think it was a comeback. from what?
the name alone was floated for a while.it was an experiment as much as experiments go, dealing with a steady base and two songwriters attempting to do something new.and they each had working habits to get them there.seen it a billion times, with a lot of players.

happy mutha’s day!
(i like the record,btw)

I love the FP, DSOTS and Animosity trio. All take a while to really get into, but hold up a lot better than some of the albums. More rewarding once you give them a chance. Barker/Al never wanted to make the same album twice. Well, Paul didn’t.

Wow! I’m surprised at how many of you also like this album. I myself still refer to this album (however erroneously) as “My favorite NEW album of all time”.

Did anyone get the DVD-Audio version of this? If so, how was it?

The DVD-A version is crazy to listen to. I can’t listen to my music like that all the time, but its fun on occasion. Worth picking up if you have the set up.

I could totally imagine “Leper” with crazy surround-sound, theatre-style panning and such.

Man.

Yeah i agree…Brick Windows is the weakest/crappiest song on the album.

I disagree… I think “Brick Windows” is one of the coolest, most original sounding tracks put out by Ministry or any other band. It’s got that classic Ministry pounding drumbeat with all kinds of crazy arpeggios… it’s very metal sounding in some ways but extremely melodic… to me it’s a song about freedom… the brick windows are an allegory for the barriers real and imagined that we create for ourselves.

I’m almost positive the song is partly inspired by that scene in Eraserhead where Henry is looking out the window of the hell of his existence and the window turns into bricks before his eyes…

Oh well, thats my interpretation of the song anyway… I dig it.

Dude it’s absolute banal crap and has no place on the awesome Filth Pig??!!!

If you think that’s one of the most “original” tracks put out by any band you seriously need to buy some more records.

Here’s some suggestions…all of the Swans output, all of Melvins output, all of justin Broadricks output…that’ll do you for now.[cool]

BRICK WINDOWS SUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!!

Heard all the stuff you mentioned before, love the Melvins and Broaderick, could take or leave the Swans depending on my mood…

Can you name one other song that sounds anything like “Brick Windows”? I bet you can’t. Whether or not you like it is another story but to me it’s a pretty original sound…

Then again, opinions are like assholes…

Thankfully Ministry didn’t really create another like Brick Windows.

there are background guitar parts on i think Die In A Crash that sounds like Brick Windows.

I like BW. It’s such an upbeat song to end Filth Pig on.
