Seeing as we have a bunch of metal threads going at the moment, here’s another one.
Any other fans of this demented swamp-metal beast?
Absolutely. Pagan Terrorism Tactics was the first album I heard from them. I was instantly in love. I went back and got everything else they had. Great band. Too bad they’re no more.
When the Kite String Pops is the only album I’ve ever sold because I found it too disturbing.
I don’t know what it is about that CD, but it got under my skin.
I see copies of this fucker EVERYWHERE. Why the hell haven’t I picked it up yet?
Dax is from down here in louisiana, well they all are. But one night at a caffe/bar, a friend of mine saw him and was absolutely starstruck. For metal here, they’re like the beatles. But he started singing to Dax; I think it was Bleed Me An Ocean, but i’m not positive. But to say the least, Dax was far from impressed, and moreso offended and insulted. Heard he’s a bit of a dick. Someone I work with begs to differ though.
seriously… it takes a lot for me to be disturbed by lyrics
…but acid bath does it. insane… serial killer lyrics
incredible band - lyrically, musically…
There’s bone dust in my throat and everything is DEAD
but it’s all right
Take it easy

I am so shocked that this would even come up here. I’ve been listening to these guys for well over 12 years now and know most of them (RIP Audie) in a fair way. Yes, Dax is a SUPREME dick. He cannot stand to have this beast dredged up (very painful memories). They all hung out with my fiance’s friends for awhile which is how I met them. Absolutely killer music and lyrics. Dax still has some good stuff going with his other projects but I just can’t move away from Acid Bath. These guys have ALWAYS been somewhat of a monument to me about what good stoner/sludge metal should be. I’m here in Louisiana now and everyone here has at least HEARD of them even if they don’t listen to metal, so yeah, they are kind of like the Bayou Beatles (like that, did ya? lol). Incredible stuff and if you haven’t heard it yet you truly are depriving yourself of some of the best metal on the planet that can touch something in everyone.
And yeah… PTT is a great album and really shows off their “range” and Dax’s vocals and lyrics but I’m much more a fan of the demos and WTKS. Kite String Pops is so freakin’ raw it hurts my soul!

after you wrote this i looked up their lyrics cause i was really curious and well, i guess you need the music with it cause the lyrics read really cheezy. like high school poetry of some kid trying to sound scary, in all honesty i think they’re danzig and marilyn manson lyrics that are more disturbing.
i guess ill check youtube to see if anyone has some songs posted

Yeah, you should listen. They create a real atmosphere of dread. Sounds like music to torture small animals to.
Acid Bath are terrible. Just really freakin’ terrible. And about as confrontational as a large tin of paint. Can’t believe they’re big anywhere - except maybe for Iowa or Memphis. From what I’ve read they sound like real inbred hick places*.
*My apologies to anyone here who might live in Iowa or Memphis as I’m sure you are probably the exception to the rule.
I’m gonna go with olsen on this one. perhaps not to the extreme that he goes (btw your disclaimer was some funny shit!) but they were pretty bad! However i did like the music to Scream Of The Butterfly but the lyrics were awful. bleed me an ocean was almost unlistenable musicaly and lyricaly, which is too bad cause the guy’s voice has potential but egh whatever. if that is a band photo from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaIndPxCP4E doesn’t the guy in the front (Lead Singer?)look like spicoli from “fast times at ridgemont high?” roughly a minute into the “video”

hmm surprised with all the hate
oh well, to each their own

I don’t hate, just seem more like a joke band than anything else, except it seems they take themselves waaaay to seriously…at least from what I’ve gathered in the past 24 hours. gotta give the singer credit though he actually sings those lyrics instead growling into the mic the way most of the bands that sing about that stuff do…
I’m not even saying they should change the subject of the lyrics just perhaps they coulda cleaned up their poetry a bit, used better imagery. as it stands now the 2 and a half songs i’ve heard coulda just been the guy singing blood blood blood, pain pain pain, death death death. just kinda campy.

Listening to “Scream of the Butterfly” now. The singer totally does look like Spicoli! The voice is alright, a bit too stylized in a cheese way, but I like the dual guitar work. I don’t find this particularly disturbing in any sense but I will check out more.
I agree that the lyrics read a bit like high school poetry with the obvious rhyming which is a pet peeve of mine (“She feels it die, I heard her cry”. “Flowers in her hair, Into the sun she stares” etc…)
The thing that got me was you guys are saying doom metal, sludge metal and I’m thinking stuff like EyeHateGod but this is much softer and more melodic. EDIT: Oh wait now I’m listening to “Dr. Seuss is Dead” and I’m hearing the heaviness I expected. I like this approach, the mix of the singing and screaming.
Those who are shitting on this music. Come on now…lighten up a bit. I know it’s always been said “everyone’s a critic” but I think these days (and I have been guilty of this too) with the internet and so much over-exposure to media of all kinds, we are so quick to dismiss almost all music as shit because it’s so overabundant, free and disposable. We’ve built these filters that we constantly use to weed through the deluge of stuff we’re exposed to but the downside is people are just cruel, judgmental and pretentious about music and so quick to write it off. I feel that many people when they listen to music now are just looking for something not to like about it, then zeroing in on that and shitting on the music because of that.
On one hand I feel this band is using too much drop D and reminiscent of bands that were popular with the maladjusted kids in high school, but I also think they would be cool live with a beer in hand and they are talented musicians. A bit like a heavier, less emotive and resonant Alice in Chains with darker lyrics. Am I way off?

Are you illeterate or just simple?(usually coincedental) I clearly backed up my original point. Besides are you so unoriginal that you need to play off of The Fragile89’s point? You want a hissy fit?! I am more than happy to provide you one: Why don’t you fill a trough full of dildos, glass and nails, fully disrobe, and jump in screaming:“I am a useless cunt!” Then, sir we have a full blown “Hissy Fit”. Sew your lips shut and break both of your hands. Goddamnit,I fucking hate you.

Classic album.
Hah, the guy does look like Spicoli in that photo. That’s not Dax though, he’s on the left. I don’t know how the others look well enough to judge.
I have Dax’s We Sing of Only Blood or Love album and it’s good. Sammy does great work too over the years, his stint in Crowbar and now Goatwhore.
PTT is a good album, but WTKSP is one of my favorite albums of all time. I remember when I finally bought it last year and checked out the lyric booklet. With the Gacy cover art and the music itself, it’s just chilling.
can’t get over the gacey image.
can’t get over the gacey image.
I went to the museum of death about 10 years ago in san diego and anything to do with death they had so consequently they had serial killer “art” …and quite a few serial killers are “artists” and let me tell you for as crude as their art is, they pay a lot of attention to detail! of the most disturbing was richard ramirez’s skull with a spiked bat bashing it in. some pics were authentic others were reproductions but Gacy’s was also disturbing because they were so “perfect” he colored his pics with crayons and the shadinng was so perfect you won’t find a light or dark streak anywhere in the crayon shading, creepy, his circles are also perfect. I challenge you to find where the circles were started! looked very ocd. There were some kevorkian paintings too and while the paintings were strange looking i think what really made them disturbing was the color pallete he used for his pics; very dark colors.

when gacey got arrested, it made my skin crawl. i used to see that guy at the gay bar just south of belmont and broadway, on broadway, in the little alley going to the club.that’s it.

Wow.
I watched a tv special on Dahmer from youtube a while back. He would go to the gay bars and hit on guys to take home. The most fucked up part about it is he absolutely knew what he was doing was wrong, and he didn’t like the actual murdering part of it, so he would always do it in a non-gruesome way. He just had a strong obsession with having sex with their dead bodies. Truly fucked stuff.
I’m absolutely fascinated with serial killers, so if anyone has any documentaries or books to recommend, I’m there dude.
