how can one be “better” than the other. im sure they can play each others crap without fail.
and you can not touch “rock and roll over” that is a perfect album.

You’re probably right. I honestly don’t give a crap about either, but lasers and fire pretty much beat any argument.
ahhh Kiss Meets the Phantom…a live action Scooby-Doo mystery…I love the scenes where there are like black and Asain stunt men doing scenes…haha…
It was VERY ScoobyDooish.
The whole movie was basically a giant douchey commercial to promote Six Flags Magic Mountain. The cover for the movie was awesome because it highlighted “state of the art special effects” and so forth.
Special effects apparently mean, little Asian guys dressed as Gene Simmons doing sloppy roundhouse kicks and post-film cartoon lasers drawn on in the editing room.

Hahaha so true, dude…the term “state of the art effects” was being used VERY liberally…also, some of the voice over dubbing is amongst the worst in film history…goddamn what a train wreck that movie is…
I love when it’s brought up in interviews and you get to see Paul and Gene squirm…ooohhh the mighty KISS made a mis-step…also fun when an interviewer brings up Music from the Elder…those guys hate that…
Apparenly many of you missed my first post.
Slash is better.
Late,

Gene talks freely about both “Phantom” and “Elder” in his book (“KISS and Makeup”).
I don’t really remember much about the Elder debacle, but I would think and hope that they wouldn’t give a crap about the Phantom movie in their past. I mean, they’re quite unapologetically merchandising whores and this was (if you ask me) just one more pay day.
I wonder, though, if there was a healthy delusion factor and the guys thought in their minds that they were all working on the next “Citizen Kane”.

ok,maybe they became a little more open about Phantom as the years wore on…I just remember a couple of old interviews where they seemed irritated when the interviewer brought it up…
The Elder was originally gonna be this big deal with a movie tied in…Gene and Paul had this whole half-baked concept which Ace was totally against(it was the final straw that eventually sent him packing)…they broguht in Bob Ezrin who was fresh off his success with The Wall…apparently Ezrin had a pretty serious cocaine problem and you can hear the cocaine shadow covering the entire record…Lou Reed was brought in to write songs and the whole thing is a strange mess…of course it’s gone on to be some treasured cult classic…

HAHA! Yes, all of that.

Slash is better.
i think we saw your first post and just presumed Slash was a typo and that you meant Ace. [:)]
Why is there even a debate about this topic???
ACE FREHLEY WAS IN KISS!!!
KISS!!!

If any one here can start a band even one tenth as cool as the above…please write me and let me know. I’ll be impressed and will rethink my argument.
Until that day…
I don’t really remember much about the Elder debacle
Elder is NOWHER NEAR as bad as it’s made out to be. And NOWHERE near as bad as any album Kiss made after 1987…when they really stunk.

I remember their disco/euro pop phase (1979 - 1981) quite fondly.

Yeah,it isn’t there worst effort for sure…I think The Oath is one of the best songs they have ever done…but it has some stinkers like that opening song and Mr Blackwell…anything after Creatures of the Night I can’t listen to…
Creatures had I Still Love You. Best song they ever did.
The Ankh Warrior and the Fox were better than Space Ace and the Cat.
rev, no. no. shame on you!
ace frehley was the reason i became fascinated with musicans. i saw kiss meets the phantom on the damn tv! primetime. i lived it guys. ace wasn’t a wonderfully mastery guitar player. still isn’t, he’s quite basic. but… damn. he’s ace fuckin frehley.
he got up there, and put on that fuckin make-up, played the same shit over and over and over and over and over again with the other guys. that’s what makes me sick at how gene is such an ass to him.
I wonder if there is that one guy out there who thinks Mark St John was their best…
now i had some fun w/you all.yes Ace was killer in his day.and yes to Slash as well . still love my boy Al for what he does on the guitar…but by far , i have to give it up for DAVE Navarro as the best out there…just one mans thought…[cool]
All of you shut up. Duane Denison for the win.
