Kiss was my first concert when I was 5yrs old in Auckland, New Zealand @ Western Springs. I remember it clearly (obviously being 5!) as not only did Gene fly across the stage with fireworks going off behind him while blastin his bass and puking blood…BUT…I also got taken to see The Empire Strikes Back the next day.

I think Guns’n’Roses are the most vile Rock’n’Roll band on the planet and Slash’s albums are gigantic sonic poops so I’m going with Ace on this one too due to The Empire Strikes Back kicking so much ass.

Ace was the only good things about Kiss…his 70s solo album is a great 70’s NY rock album…most of the songs are about getting wasted and crashing cars…love it…

The simplicity and straightforwardness of KISS are what make the songs great, as well as the awesome stage spectacle and how badass they look on a lunch box.

I think Slash is a “better” guitarist (which was the original question) but I’d much rather see a KISS show than a Slash gig or whatever pile of buttrape poses for G’n’R these days.

I can listen to pretty much any G’n’R record (Chinese Democracy is not a G’n’R record, by the way) other than Spaghetti from end to end. With KISS I’m usually clicking through to find 2 songs on each album that I want to hear.

My enjoyment and image of both bands, by the way, are tainted by the existence of two major Alpha-douches (Axl and Gene). Gene’s douchiness, however, doesn’t really affect whether the band starts on time or cause the show to end 2 songs into a set. Axl . . . . yeah, he was an unpredictable primadonna prick back when he was good. And now . . . he’s really hideous looking.

I realize most of that has nothing to do with Slash or Ace, but I don’t care. There’s not much I have to say about either to begin with.

I had the VHS of that amazing film for a while – given to me by my brother-in-law who found it for 50 cents at a thrift store. I then forwarded it to a friend with a written curse “The Curse of the Phantom” explaining that you will have the curse on you until you watch the film and forward it off to someone else. I had it followed for about 2 or 3 more people after my initial victim and then it fell off the radar. I like to think it’s being viewed by President Obama right now as he’s preparing to send it to Romney or something.
